I want to do a quick video for you guys this evening about pawpaws I'm gonna do that right now because they're right and I know a lot of you guys won't ride pawpaws just I do a video every single year about them and they're right right now they won't be right for long I think they only you know I usually can find them for about three weeks or so different patches or riping at different times now what's a pawpaw a pawpaw is a native North American fruit that big and it's delicious this is a Paw Paw patch right here these are papaya trees okay and if you look on the ground you can see paw Paw's these are all paw Paw's right here and what happens is they ripen and they fall to the ground and they're very saw now if you can find one that's not all like full of ants like that one say like this one a few ants in it but I'll show you how to eat those real quick but the first time you say this if you want to try to find a pawpaw I don't know the range in the United States but they like low-lying areas and I tell you this every year along streams and rivers and stuff like that but where I live in Maryland I live right along see no canals you know canals a National Historical Park like a hundred and eighty miles long follows the Potomac River I have seen pawpaw trees and Paw Paw patches from one end to the C&O canal to the other so if you want to try to find a pawpaw and you live anywhere near the C&O canal that's your Historical Park from Cumberland to DC go now and walk or bike this ho path and look for these trees look for that fruit you'll see it on the ground and on the towpath but more importantly smell because you know it smell it Paw Paw patch because that rotten fruit gives off a very sweet odor you'll just smell this odor and when you do stop and start looking they may not be right there on the canal well right there where you're standing there might be 100 feet over that way or 100 feet over that way or hundred yards even cuz that odor drifts so just look at you know Circle Circle Circle T you find the Paw Paw patch usually there's ten trees or fifty trees and they're not very big and when you see a pop up hatch and you look up and you see pawpaw there's paw Paw's on the ground give it a tree shake and the ones that are right well will fall just like that you can grab before the raccoons do and eat them up if you climb the tree and try to pick them you might get a green one the green ones are terrible every patch tastes different to that's the amazing thing I've been to some Paw Paw patches whether they're you know they're okay and you know a mile away they're just so sweet and delicious it's amazing just amazing how they can be so different they're all kind of the same again kinda like a cross between mango and a banana they're kind of mushy though they're very mushy texture delicious well look right now I'm post this video tonight so that you guys can go out there and find yourself so the reason you don't have pawpaw is in the storing thing it's because as there's no way to ship them I mean they come right really quickly and they get mushy really fast so if you want a pawpaw you pretty much have to go find him yourself and like I was saying earlier go ahead and grab the tree a tree shake it usually not very big cover your head and the fresh fruit will fall you don't want to climb up and pick them because those are not gonna be good to eat you're gonna be very bitter not on that one I'm sorry this to the one week there you have to go anyway there's plenty on the ground for me today I've already eaten my fill though beautiful ones here though I say just a beautiful few fruit right here look at that thing okay no seeds in it I like to get them off the ground well as a last resort get them off the ground but these are right the ones that are in the trees that may not be right but if they grab a tree and shake it and they fall chances are there and the raccoons may not oh yeah there's some big ones up there look at that may not have been look at them so you just want to shake it be wonderful if they fall they're ready now this one is ready but it's a little bit black so I'm gonna let it go but these two just fill till they perfect I say we eat him let's sit down and do that alright so this is a ha ha I got this a really good one well I don't know if it's gonna be good or not but it's that big one nice and juicy there's so much sand I'm gonna be horrible for my teeth but oh well so first thing you want to do is make sure it's soft then we're just gonna break it open like that look inside and it's a nice creamy color royal texture anyway and it's not black or anything so we know it's good then what I do now pawpaws by the way they grow naturally in this area I guess on the east coast usually withers ever there's water there only ripe for a very short period of time maybe September normally maybe for three or four weeks patches ripen at different times I was in the patch a couple days ago and they weren't ripe at all these are very right so what I do is I just break them in half like that might squeeze your guts out like this it looks good doesn't it and I just eat it seeds and all know what you do is you kind of squish it around in your mouth and you sift the seeds out with your teeth don't swallow the seeds probably not gonna hurt you you know fill you up really quick but the great big things like this you see them great big seeds and the way they propagate is that the animals like raccoons to lead them seeds and all and then the poop the seeds out somewhere down there you know down the river up the river across the mountain whatever and they'll start growing hopefully but I don't swallow this eat no I wouldn't recommend you either just kind of squeeze it out don't make mr. Dave delicious cross between a mango and a banana for sure all right meet this last half then I'm going to put you away and I need a couple more or not too many I guess should the tro-clon I sees what's not that rig there's you seen just that one bike we had that many five seats so there's probably 20 seeds per pop off all right let's get back to digging not having a lot of luck but at least I'm not hungry anymore I mean more though
