[Music] [Applause] [Music] hello simmers welcome back to my channel sensational builds in case you don't know my name is deb and thanks for joining me today for another tutorial today we're going to be learning how to create exposed beans in the sims 4 now this is such a popular build feature in a lot of modern farmhouse style homes like in this style here but they're really being applied to a lot of more modern or even loft style homes lately as well so i thought it'd be something that um you know it would really make another nice feature especially because in the sims 4 as we all know we're not able to do a lot with the ceilings themselves they are quite plain compared to say what we could do with the sims 3 where we could actually use any of the floor swatches to uh apply them to the ceiling so you could have say a wooden ceiling if you were doing say a log cabin or something like that but because we aren't able to use those sort of features in the sims 4 i thought we could uh you know do something a little bit different and create these exposed beams so there's two different types that i'm going to show you in this tutorial a somewhat more straightforward and more simple method but that one does require seasons expansion pack or a somewhat more i'll call it a little bit more fiddly because it i wouldn't call it harder it's not particularly hard it just requires a little bit more filling around to get the final look so let's get right into it shall we what i have here is the more fiddly version but i'll show you the straightforward type first so the first thing you're going to want to do is enter in the cheat bb dot move object on now i've started off with my room being fully furnished now it doesn't have to be you can start with a completely bare room i do like to have it furnished first because i want to know where i'm going to actually be placing my beams so in this particular case i want them to the beams to be over the top of the light so that the lights look like almost as if they're hanging out of the beams themselves so in this case um i want one here over these two lights one in the center and then one over these two here now the more simple or more straightforward way requires you to just get your wall tool and build a wall precisely over where you want your beams to go now as i said before you do have to have move move objects on if you don't any furniture that's in the way is going to get deleted whenever you place these walls so that's the real importance of having that cheat turned on once you have those walls placed all you're going to need to do is use the spandrels now the reason that i say you need to use the seasons expansion pack is because this particular spandrel is called the hang this support beam works by far the best now choose whatever swatch you like and simply hover over where your wall is and click and it will change that wall into a spandrel and that is really as straightforward as it gets and i'll just quickly hop into build mode to show you that is what it looks like there so it doesn't have quite as big as effect as the other method that i'm about to show you now um as we saw in the beginning of this video but it still is a really nice straightforward way to do it that really doesn't require that much time energy or patience now you can use one of the other spangles that you have here i wouldn't suggest to use these two base game ones and i'll show you why now if i just put that over there it doesn't actually show through the ceiling so you can use one of the other ones here uh probably the best alternative would be this one from the cats and dogs expansion pack just because even though it's a little bit thinner it comes down quite a bit further through the ceiling so that one also works quite well if you wanted to do something a bit more substantial like you saw the beginning of this video or you don't have those expansion packs installed what you'll need to do is use items from the debug menu so to access the debug menu you have to enter in the cheats bb dot show hidden objects and bb dot show live edit objects now with those two cheats enabled you're going to have to go to your search bar and enter in the word planck text search for plank and you'll notice here at the end you've got two different versions i would suggest to use this one here the slightly thicker one as opposed to this one which is a little bit thinner so what i like to do is just grab a whole bunch of those more than you'll need because as we all know we can't uh clone items in this the debug menu so when i've all got them there on the side i just pick it up and make it larger using the square bracket tool i like to go in this case two times larger and then using your nine key raise it up until it's at ceiling height now you want it to sit about here and no higher if you go any high it starts interfering with the second story if you do have a second story or even the roofs themselves so i'm just lowering this again using the zero key and these are the keys on the top of your keyboard not on the number pad just so you know i've had a couple of people messaging me before going it's not working it's not working and it's because they're using the wrong number keys i'm not sure why it doesn't work on that other keypad but there we go so all i'm going to do now is with all my remaining planks is just to do the exact same thing enlarge it twice and using the 9 key raise it up to the right height so they're all the same now they will be clipping over each other a little bit as you can see there um uh it depends on the size of your room as to how many you'll need for example i wouldn't be able to get away with just two because i'll have a bit of a gap you can using the alt key to free place it you can just place it gently next to one another there so that there's no clipping but it just does require a little bit more patience as you need to line it up nicely so that they look like it's one solid piece but as i say i'm going to need to cross them over anyway to fill up the space but unless you move the camera around a lot you don't tend to notice it that much so i'm just going to go ahead fast forward now and place the rest of my beams and there we have it that's the final product just like you saw at the beginning and this is the version that i will upload to the gallery if you do like this room and you wanted it in your own builds like say this isn't an entire house this is just uh the one room that i was using for this tutorial i can't upload the other version to the gallery for the simple reason that when you actually create the walls that will be for your spandrels each section will end up being another room so i will upload this version now the only reason that i sort of prefer the more straightforward version is that those spandrels or beams actually disappear when you're in live mode or live mode and when you're overhead as such whereas these ones here are actual objects and they will stay there uh even when you're in live mode or build mode so when you're playing overhead as most of us do you will see these at all times but it's really up to you and what you find to be a little bit easier or what you like to look of the more as well so there we have it guys i hope you enjoyed this tutorial i hope you found it helpful if you do have any comments or questions please pop them down below and if you did enjoy it please leave me a thumbs up and i would love if you subscribed and i hope to see you all here again next time thanks a lot and bye for now you
