hi my name is irvan and today you'll be learning how to use a virtual reality headset for virtual production inside unreal engine i'll be using an oculus quest 2 but this should work with most vr headsets that have steamvr capabilities when connected to a pc i'll also be doing this in unreal engine 4.27 which is the latest version this should work in previous versions as well and an unreal five but those might be a little bit buggier unreal 4.27 recently released a bunch of support for open xr capabilities and for a bunch of oculus capabilities as well so it is the best most stable version for this kind of work at the moment this is really helpful to get a sense of space in your scene it's used on most virtual production sets and was famously used by john favreau on the mandalorian and the lion king to get a scope of the actual scenes and environments themselves this is really helpful with multi-use editing because it allows lots of people to actually get inside a scene and fill out the space itself and make updates and change objects in real time you need to have a version of unreal engine installed preferably the latest one which is 4.27 at this time of recording and you'll also need to have steamvr installed then open up unreal engine and go to edit plugins we need to ensure that the following plugins are enabled for the oculus you need the oculus open xr and the oculus vr plugins and you'll also need the steamvr plugin then just press the restart now button at the bottom of your screen to apply these changes it will automatically then reopen your scene up then all you need to do is connect your vr headset to steamvr so if you're using oculus you can use the oculus link cable or if you want to do this wirelessly oculus does have a program called airlink which is in beta at the moment where you can connect your computer over wi-fi you need to have the oculus app installed on your pc to do this and to enable it just go into the developer settings in your oculus app and then the experimental features on your oculus itself and you can turn on airlink and then connect to your pc once your oculus or virtuality headset is connected when you put on the headset itself it should automatically transport you into your unreal scene you'll be able to see this is working when you put in your headset and the ue4 editor comes up on the actual screen itself and then it will take you into the scene if you don't automatically transport it in go into your pc on your unreal scene go to the top bar and press where it says vr mode and then when you put on your vr headset it'll take you in automatically then once you want to leave just press escape on your pc and it will take you out so if you want to re-enter again you can just click vr mode and it'll take you back in and that's it now you can move around your scene move and transform objects around place cameras and take snapshots of the scene itself this is really really helpful when doing virtual production especially when doing virtual production at home and it can be a really really great way to improve your virtual reality and virtual production pipeline thanks for watching this quick video i hope you enjoyed and learned something new if you have any questions or comments please leave them down below if you like what you saw and want to see more please consider subscribing i'll be doing videos mainly on virtual production and unreal engine over the next month with a few videos on blender as well coming soon thanks for watching and i'll see you next time
