hey everybody welcome back to the channel if you're new my name is sam and i own an embroidery um business and we do kids custom shirts and birthday shirts holiday shirts that kind of things and then we do some adult stuff as well but in today's video i was asked to embroider on some blankets for a senior soccer team so we're going to do that so we're going to take this blanket they provided the blankets the yellow plush blanket it's a lot blanket they got it at t.j.maxx it's the price and it's kate spade blanket but we're going to take this and embroider on the corner like you would a baby blanket where you put their name and uh date of birth or their birth date and that kind of stuff but we're gonna put their uh jersey number and their last name on it so i'm going to show you guys how i do that so let's get started [Music] to live okay so the first thing we're going to do is set up the design so i have a list of their names and their numbers over here so then we're going to this was the one i just did so we're gonna do another one i'm gonna change this to a actually a number two their number is two then i'm going to change the lettering here hopefully you can see this well so this is the cursive font so i'm going to adjust the lettering so that everything lines up you do that just by clicking these green boxes and moving everything over if you click the bottom green arrow it moves the letter you clicked on and everything behind it if you just click on the center it's only going to move that one letter i'm just going to adjust these to my liking like this and then i want this the a to be in this area down here by the p so i'm going to click on the a then take the bottom arrow and move all the letters over and then [Music] i might even bring it in just a little bit because their name is kinda long okay so um since we're doing this on a plush item i go ahead and i bumped up the comp to five on the text on this text i did stitch one out without doing that and it didn't quite stand out enough or not to my liking anyway so i kind of bumped that up it makes this the letters thicker so that um you know you can see them better through the plush material of the blanket so that's what i did there so i am just trying to line this up the best that i can and then we're gonna save it or actually we should probably go here go to the colors we clicked on the two we should make mark our applique steps if you don't mark your applique steps if they're step stitching on right on top of each other then you're gonna have it where it'll stitch a little bit and skip some stitches and stitch a little bit skip some stitches because it's trying to the program itself tries to cut out overlapping stitches so if you don't tell it it's an applique step it's going to cut out some of those stitches and it's not going to stitch your applique correctly so that's why it's important to label those so i'm going to save this and then we're going to hoop the garment okay so i am going to use um my 8x9 mighty hoop and i'm going to use my adjustable hooping station and i'm going to use some tearaway stabilizer so first i'm going to put the bottom ring in to my stage hooping station i'm going to find the corner of the blanket that i want to put on the design they want it the design at an angle in the corner so that's how i'm going to do this so um because i'm hooping it with the less of the bulk of the blanket going head first into the machine i will have to turn my design upside down but i want most of the bulk of the blanket to hang in front of the machine so that's why we're hooking it this way so i do have the top of my hoop here and i'm just trying to line this blanket evenly up on the corners and make sure that this point here is right in the center of my hoop just adjust it a little bit you might have to bring because the blanket's pretty heavy you might have to pull some of it up stop pulling so much on it there hopefully that makes sense and i'm just going to keep adjusting it i think it's pretty good um you can mark this if you wanted to draw a line and mark that you could fold it and crease it with your iron or heat press if you wanted to to make it easier or more precise i'm just kind of eyeballing in here i want to be able to hoop this down as far as i can into that corner but still have the blanket inside the hoop caught in the edges of the hoop best of can so it's sturdy and when you're hooping it you're going to remember this is the top of your hoop so you want the warning sign to be at the top i'm going to adjust it a little bit more because it's not quite center i'm just going to keep adjusting it until i get it to where i want it okay so it's pretty even there and then i'm just going to pull a little bit to make sure it's snug in there i'm not pulling very hard and i'm not pulling very much and then now it's hooked so let's go take it to the machine i am going to float this underneath the stabilizer underneath just because my stabilizer is not big enough to fit inside this all the way so let's go to the machine okay so i've got a chair that i don't think you guys can see but i got a chair right in front of the machine that i'm going to drape the excess blanket on that's going to keep it from pulling too much on the hoop itself if you just let it hang down it will probably pull on it and mess up your design i'm going to snap that in place make sure i don't have any of the blanket tucked underneath you could also put the blanket up on this shelf if you wanted to i just got too much stuff up there so i didn't do it that way so now i'm going to take my stabilizer again it's a tear away stabilizer i'm just going to slide it underneath here make sure i'm getting it under the hoop and in between the the hoop and the um arm of the machine okay and then i'm going to load the design onto the machine so i'll take you over to do that [Music] apparently i was talking but not recording so um here we are at the machine or at the computer for the machine and i have turned the design upside down and to do that you go to this f over here and click it two times and it'll turn the design upside down if you click it one time it only turns it uh 45 degrees so you have to click it twice to turn it upside down and now i'm just trying to center the design in the hoop because this design has this this font has this little swoosh here it kind of off centers everything because it's basically centering from this outer edge to this outer edge so i'm for me personally this is just kind of extra so i don't really want to center off this i want to center off where the p actually starts so i'm just trying to adjust the design enough so it looks pretty centered with that just kind of that kind of swoop just going off to the side a little extra hopefully that makes sense so what i'm doing is i'm just pushing my buttons here this button and the arrow button and those move your hoop you can kind of center it how you want and then now we're going to trace to make sure we're not going to hit any of the side of the hoop [Music] all right and i think that's good so we're going to get started [Music] now we're going to cut this out okay so i have it cut out i just have it sitting here on the back of the chair i'm going to add some water-soluble stabilizer on the top this is going to help the stitching of the satin stitching to sit more on top of the blanket versus getting hidden down deep into the the fluff of this the plush of this blanket so i'm just going to cut a piece of this this i got a hobby lobby it's on water soluble stabilizer then i'm going to use some pins like these and i'm going to pin this in place so it doesn't shift around but i want to pin towards the outside of the hoop that way the needle on the machine doesn't hit any of the pins so i'm going to do that real quick [Music] okay i think that's pretty secure so i'm going to put it back on the machine [Music] [Music] okay it is all finished now i'm going to take these pins out i'm going to set them far away so they don't get attracted by the mighty hoof and i'm going gonna go in my workspace is a total mess i really need to spend some time cleaning this up but i've been a little busy so i haven't had time but we're gonna go through and cut out the jump stitches here i like to do that before i pull the stabilizer off so that the stabilizer doesn't get caught underneath those stitches and pull it okay i'm gonna pull the stabilizer off you just rip it just comes right off you can also spray it with some water and it'll dissolve i'm just gonna go through here with my scissors and pick out some of the stabilizer in the center of all the letters try and get as much off as i can and then when i take them to the customer i'll let them know that they need to be washed before she gives them to the team that way they don't have the stabilizer still on there but i'm not going to wash them the reason i don't wash them is because of allergies i don't want to wash it in a detergent that somebody might be allergic to i leave that for the customer to do so that they can make sure that i do the same thing on t-shirts too so that they know or that they can use the proper laundry detergents that's best for their family you can see some of the blue sticking up here from the letter that i didn't cut close or from the number i didn't cut quite close enough so i'm gonna clean that up too we're gonna take the mighty hoop off we're done with that and to do that to clean this up i'm just going to fold this as much as i can right on that seam so that fabric is just sticking up a little bit and i'm just gonna trim as much as i can it probably won't be perfect but sometimes it's hard with these plush items that to get right up against the stitching there okay then we're going to pull off our stabilizer on the back and you can go in and pull this all out if you wanted to i'm just going gonna leave it um i think it'll give the name some stability or the stitching some stability walk through the wash and stuff so i'm just gonna leave it in there like that just get as close as i can then i'm gonna go take it to the heat press because we need to adhere the heat and bond that we put on the back of this fabric to the blanket itself so i'm gonna go do that real quick okay it is all finished it's pressed i think it turned out really cute here you can see kind of some of the plush coming up through the letters you can go in there and trim that back if you wanted to to kind of make the letters even better to see i wouldn't get too wild with trimming because you don't want to look like it's had a haircut but you can do a little bit of trimming if you wanted to or you can do what they call as i believe is called a drop down stitch where it takes you it tacks down the plush material first and then it'll stitch the letters over it i don't have that feature on my in brilliance but in brilliance does have one of their programs or one of their packages does offer that word where you it will create the um that stitch what did i call it i already forgot what i call it anyway but it'll create that backing stitch that will hold the flush or the plush down and then stitch over it but i don't have that so we didn't do that today but there it is and i've got about five more of these to make so thank you all so so much for watching and i hope you guys learned something let me know in the comments of any uh questions or anything you have and i'll see you guys next time bye [Music]
