hello design lovers I'm Ashley Childers and today I'm sharing 12 tips that will instantly Elevate the look and feel of your home these are the exact things that you can do to create sophisticated elevated spaces I know you're going to love today's video so be sure to hit the Subscribe Button as we drop a new design video every week thank you let's dive into tip number one and that is to create cohesive interior spaces now what I mean by this is thinking about your entire home collectively when you are designing each room so you can do that through repetition of color materials and being really Mindful and thoughtful of the architectural details that you are embellishing or adding to your home my number two design tip to elevate your home is to curate your accessories now what I mean by that is to collect your accessories and display your accessories in an Artful thoughtful way so if you're a big collector and you have lots of things my tip is to group those items by Collections and if you like a more minimal look that's totally fine but make sure that you incorporate some decorative accessories into your space because it is always going to add a layer of sophistication my third tip is to incorporate original art if at all possible I feel like original art whether it is vintage or new brings so much soul and charm to a space and original art is a lot more attainable than you might think go to your local vintage shop or thrift store a lot of times I have found some beautiful vintage original art that I've incorporated into my home or better yet if you have a local artist that you can support I highly recommend doing that bringing a piece from an artist that is within your community into your home adds so much character and charm and personalization to your rooms my number four tip for elevating your space is to create layers of lighting so what that means is to have table lamps floor lamps sconces chandeliers and pendants all throughout your space and to not use as much integrated recessed lighting so recessed lighting I understand is really important for certain tasks but what I would suggest doing with your recessed lighting and honestly all the lighting in your space is install dimmers because they can help you create a mood I know you sometimes need the task lighting but it's always nice to be able to drop the lighting levels down in a space and create an atmospheric experience in your home tip number five for elevating the look and feel of your rooms is to incorporate vintage and antique pieces so first of all incorporating vintage and antique pieces is a really great way to be sustainable when you are designing your spaces not to mention that antique and vintage pieces add so much character and charm and personality to your rooms so instead of running out to your local Big Box store I highly recommend going to local antique and vintage stores Thrift markets and looking for pieces that you're drawn to that have a history and patina they're just going to add a layer of beauty to your space a last little designer side note when it comes to vintage antique and thrifted pieces is that they can be really affordable a lot of times when we hear the word antique we think oh my gosh it's going to be so much more expensive than a new piece but that's just not the case they can really be affordable and also a lot of fun to search for in my designs I like to incorporate at least 25 percent of the pieces in the room vintage SO or antique whatever I just feel like it gives a layer of character and Nostalgia and interest into a space that new pieces just cannot do my tip number 6 for elevating your home is to mix the materials in your decor and hard surfaces so I've said this before in a previous video but if you're designing a home from the ground up be really mindful to mix different materials in your architectural details solid stone for your countertops wood tones paint metal finishes glass all of those things need to be considered and included when you are building when it comes to decorating a space the same thing Rings true mixed materials I want textures and maybe you've got different wood tones in this space different metal finishes in this space natural materials like mohair and grass cloth and linen all of those things when they come together really create a layered Sumptuous and sophisticated space tip number seven for creating an elevated look in your home is to be very mindful of the size of your rug which I know you've heard that before but also the size of your furniture especially your upholstery so when it comes to a rug everyone's heard like bigger is better and that Rings true but I want to go a little bit further than that and tell you that when you're purchasing a rug for a room very often times it needs to be an 8 by 10 or larger if you're going to Anchor a seating grouping really a 5x7 rug is not going to Anchor a seating grouping especially if you have a sofa in it so always think eight by ten and up now when it comes to upholstered pieces or furniture really you need to think about the scale for the room and it doesn't need to be too small because it's going to feel uninviting so you probably aren't going to want a settee for your main seating area in your living room I would say get a the largest sofa that you can but also you don't want to go too big and overstuffed and like we see now that it's really kind of trendy for all of these very sinuous overstuffed side chairs and although they're beautiful and they may work in your space if you have a really large room a lot of times they just don't feel right in a normal size space so look at the dimensions of furniture when you are shopping for them and make sure that they fit nicely in the scale of your room tip number eight for elevating your room is to address and design the inside of your entry and the outside this is so important when we are creating a welcoming experience for not only the visitors of our home but also ourselves we need to feel welcomed and excited when we walk through the front door of our home so let's address that by adding a console or a chest a small bench or even a little side table and stool to your entry hall I also love to make sure that I'm add a lamp a piece of artwork if there's space for it or a mirror and then of course fresh flowers and a candle if that works for your home now when we go outside creating that welcoming experience as you approach your home is also very important curb appeal yes but I'm talking about your actual porch or stoop or however you enter your apartment or home so adding potted plants maybe a wreath and a very nice welcome mat is going to elevate the experience and create a luxurious entry tip number nine for elevating the look and feel of your home is to play up your outdoor spaces so indoor outdoor living is so trendy right now and honestly it's like a buzzword but it's always been on Trend to open up your home and enjoy the outdoor spaces that you have and I think that when you're designing your home and creating rooms that you should also address the outdoor spaces in your home because you want to be drawn Outdoors you want for those spaces to be well designed and welcoming as well so really think through how you want to use your outdoor spaces add potted plants add seating if you have room maybe you can add a table and chairs for an Alfresco meal just be mindful to create outdoor spaces that you want to spend time in tip number 10 for elevating your home is to add window dressings so this could be full on drapery panels it could be Cafe curtains or Roman Shades or shears whatever you love and fits the style of your home I just say make sure that you include some type of window treatments window treatments add so much sophistication to a room room and a lot of times when I walk into a space that's beautifully designed that doesn't have some type of window treatment I just feel like it's unfinished so add that layer of textiles add that cozy feeling to a space through window treatments my 11th tip for elevating your home is actually through the auditory experience that you have inside your home so that would be integrating AV audio visual equipment in your home maybe that's recessed speakers and a sound system or maybe that's just through having a small little Sonos in the corner of a room I feel like music adds so much Vitality to a space it can really set the mood for a quiet night at home or a party or whatever it is so make sure that you're mindful about how you're experiencing your space through your ears and add that as a part of your design okay guys the 12th and final and easiest way to add sophistication and welcoming Elegance to your home is through adding fresh flowers and plants this is so easy guys and it adds so much character and charm and vitality to your spaces so whether you go outside and cut stems and branches and fresh flowers from your yard or you go to the local supermarket and grab a bundle of flowers however you want to do it just add some freshness to your spaces it's going to really Elevate the way that you experience your
