okay hello welcome to uh I guess this is going to be a video tutorial for how to draw the face uh basically from any angle you want and uh yeah I'm making this video because I just lost three games in a row and I need a new purpose in life so um yeah let's get into it right away uh so what you see here I got two heads um this one a little bit more real listick in proportions this one is uh whoops what's going on why is not showing up oh there you go yeah so this one's a little bit more like a anime proportion basically just kind of like a shorter face that's really most of it uh and we're going to look at how to draw this head um let's move these guys out of the way real quick okay so first thing you want to do is to draw uh basically a ball and the ball just kind of looks like a circle and uh yeah this is where some people are going to be like oh no I can't even draw a circle uh if that's the case for you that's fine uh I can't draw a circle either just make sure it's kind of round doesn't have to be perfect um once you get this in there uh the first thing you want to do is to get the the Crosshair like the center line uh basically when you look at what other people do when they draw heads it's like they put this this this thing in here right like this little cross uh it shows the direction of where the head is looking at right uh kind of like kind of like this right so this guy is looking this way so that's what we're going to do uh on this ball over here why is it lagging like that okay uh so just try your best to follow the like the form of this ball here to represent the roundness of it because this is a this is a ball it's not a circle it's a big difference there and uh this is a tip my teacher used to tell me is to imagine yourself being like a cockroach you're just crawling along the surface of this ball which is very disgusting but it definitely helps to uh imagine the structure so you can also kind of go behind it and like like imagine what it would look like if you if this was like a transparent ball uh it's not necessary but it's uh it's pretty good practice if you're just starting out and you're struggling with this stuff okay so that's where the ball is you can kind of see it's uh it's kind of looking like in this kind of direction right uh after that we're going to get a side plane like uh like this uh this is like a flat surface not surface it's like a flat plane on the side of your head cuz if you touch yourself right now uh touch yourself um on the side of your head I mean uh this this is like flat right the side of your head is flat so you can represent that with a straight line here and that's the that's the first thing you got to do is to just draw this thing from different angles uh that's the first thing you want to practice so let's uh do a few of these [Music] all right uh we got a few in there uh one the little tip you can uh apply if you're struggling to uh visualize the perspective is to think about like a box right like let's say let's take this one over here um you can kind of see you can kind of uh imagine the Box perspective right if this one was like a box instead of a ball look kind of like this right so that's something that can help if you're struggling with uh perspective um that's kind of the answer to anything if you're struggling with perspective for anything just think about the Box okay so now that we got the this ball thing here we're going to try to turn uh this guy into something more like this right uh to finish off the head so the first thing you want to do is to just take this um this Center Line This vertical Center Line just bring it down to uh like this and we're gonna try to figure out where the chin is and this can vary a lot depending on like what kind of character you're drawing so there's no like oh it has to be here or it has has to be here it really could be anywhere right so if you're drawing like a if you make the chin really short like this then it it looks more like a like a child and if you make it really long like way down here then it kind of looks like uh Benedict Katch um well just for the purpose of this we can just make it kind of generic like say somewhere here um and then we try to find a jaw uh about halfway so this uh side plane here roughly about halfway it doesn't have to be but that's like a usually a pretty good one uh that's where the jaw is going to extend down and then you just kind of connect the dot and you get the jaw line and then on this side uh if you're just starting out you don't want to get too complicated you can actually just kind of draw it like straight here and you get like a pretty decent head structure going on uh but we want to make it a little bit more uh not necessarily realistic but just more uh I don't have the word for it just a little bit more closer to real life uh we can look at this one over here uh in the three quarters view you can see like from the forehead oh by the way I forgot to mention this this line here is where your eyebrow is so that's your brow line not the ey line uh so from the forehead it's going to come in like the brow Ridge is going to come inwards and then the cheek's going to come back out and then back in towards the chin um so you get like this kind of a zigzag going on and that happens all the time and that's why you see like in some anime drawings it'll have like like this thing going on uh that's what it is it's the it's the browsh going in and then the cheek coming back out and then connecting back into the chin so we're going to I'm going to try to do that here so here comes the forehead this is where the eyebrow is or uh then it's going to come in and then back out and then back in to the chin and there we go we kind of have a head going here uh and the last thing we need is the is the ear so ear actually conveniently lines up with the the eyebrow so the top of the ear it's about the same level as the eyebrow not always but it's a it's a pretty good estimate you can just kind of put in an ear just kind of do this oops and uh yeah and then at the end you want to put in the neck as well uh you want to at least like draw this part cuz it's a bit weird to have like a floating head without the neck so I know a lot of people do that I used to I used to do that when I first starting out I just draw the head and then there's no neck and then I used to struggle putting in the neck I was like I don't know what to do so yeah practice this the neck is kind of just like a you think about it like this right just like a little cylinder like that uh so now let's do that with all the other ones right so just here drop this line down find where the chin is all right brow brow R comes in Chek comes back out back to the chin connect the jaw at the ear and that's it right it's pretty simple I'm going to just quickly do it for the other [Music] ones [Music] okay there we go um so one thing I didn't notice Sor not notice I forgot to mention is uh it's this part this little bottom plane here that is uh it connects the jaw to the to the neck and it's like really important and I know a lot of people they kind of just uh they like draw jaw line and just the neck just comes straight down here without this part and uh and that's like just wrong like it looks weird and it's it's just incorrect so you don't want to do that um you can see it happening on three of these I purposely chose these angles to kind of show off this little plane here uh another mistake that some people make or I don't know what call it a mistake but it could be a stylistic choice but a lot of times it's not it's just kind of like they don't know what to do uh what they do is they they end up drawing this line here uh and it just looks super weird because there's not supposed to be a line there um one thing to that's good to keep in mind is that usually you only draw a line for things that um are overlapping so there's no overlap going on here like they just kind of go come in like this right nothing's overlapping so what you want to do is just use uh like use value to se to separate the this here this the planes um so you still you still see this here but it's not like a solid line and on something like this the jaw actually does overlap the neck and that's why you get uh you get this line here um okay so but now that we got everything in we got the structure of the head uh let's look at where to place the features so we're going to use this one again uh so I said this one's the eyebrow line right uh so obviously the eyes are just going to go underneath the um the eyebrows and what I like to do is just draw kind of these like little little circles to represent the eyes um you can think about like Ultram man or something uh what this does is uh give you a sense of the proportions and the overall placement of the features without having to draw the features right away uh so you can kind of play around with like the size of the eyes and kind of where you place the eyes how far apart they are and just get a good feel for it without committing to like actually drawing like an eye um so you can fix things easier uh now let's look at where to put the nose usually it's about where the eye is and then down to the chin you take like roughly halfway and that's where the bottom of the nose would be you just quickly Mark that and then from here to like halfway a little bit higher usually where the mouth is we can just kind of quickly put that in and this looks this looks kind of weird looks kind of like a robot or something uh but this is just to quickly get a sense of proportions right we know exactly where to put the features so we don't have to worry about that later Al so we're going to do that for all these ones [Music] here okay so uh I just kind of saved this for last because uh the side view head is a little bit unique um what you want to do really is just remember this uh zigzagging pattern of um so the forehead comes in and the this is the brow R it comes inwards and the nose is going to come out and then come back in and then um this is the upper lip it's going to come back out you got the you got the mouth here and then the lower lip is g to so the lip the upper lip comes out and come back in and then the lower lip does the same thing and then it goes into the chin which comes back out a little bit and then comes back in and then uh you just connect the rest and that's the that's the side view head and instead of a circle I like to draw a triangle for the side view I uh I'll explain why that is later but uh yeah this is kind of what you want to remember to do the side view head like just kind of in out and out and out okay so now that we got the face blocked in pretty much um let's look at the individual features just really quickly um not going to be super in-depth but just give you a general idea of how to tackle these features um so let's look at the eye first uh just a quick run through for the structure of the eye would be this is the eyeball and then you got this this dot here uh the iris and then here comes like the top eyelid which is g to it's going to cover part of the eye and then the bottom lit like this kind of the the shape varies right uh but this is what an eye is made of so that's the main three things you want to think about is the top eyelid uh the bottom eyelid and then this part of the eye uh so when it comes to a more stylized eye like an anime or something uh it's kind of the same thing right you just draw the top lid right and then the bottom lit and then you get this uh the iris and then you just fill it in and that's kind of it really quick um usually for most for the most part this top part is going to be darker and this this is going to be a less prominent the bottom LD that's generally how it goes cuz this this uh catches more Shadow more in Shadow and then it also has more like eyelashes and stuff so that's one way to draw the eye and then you can just you know do different eyes right but doesn't matter what kind of eye you're doing you always always thinking about these three things the top eyelid bottom eyelid and then the the iris all right let's do a different one kind of like something like this right it doesn't matter what style you're always doing the same thing um so when you go and practice drawing the eyes what I would recommend is instead of just drawing one individual eye like this you want to kind of do like a little little perspective here and then Mark where the eyes go and just draw both of the eyes because I know one thing that a lot of people talk about is like they draw one eye and it looks good and then they can't figure out the other one uh so it's good if you practice drawing both of them so just we're going to when we draw we want to draw both of the eyes instead of just doing one and then struggle with the other uh this is this is a kind of a decent way to practice just isolate one thing instead of tackling like a bunch of different things that you Str and you struggle with all of them and then you end up just overwhelming yourself uh so this is one way if you're struggling with ice then just draw a bunch of ice if you're struggling with other things just do that one thing and just focus on that one thing until you get comfortable [Music] yeah so that's basically covers the eye oh uh one little thing about this uh this Iris part is usually the top is uh darker than the bottom that's just I don't know why it is but that's just kind of how it goes so yeah just a little tip um last thing about the eye would be uh the side view right so uh when you're looking at the eye from the side you got like the uh the eyeball which still looks like a ball because the the ball just looks like a ball from any angle uh it's looking this way um what happens is you kind of have the top eyelid kind of wrapping around here like this right and then the bottom eyelid does kind of the same thing which just invert it and uh that's that's uh what it looks like and that's why kind of it looks like a triangle right and that's why I did the triangle thing for the side view eye that's usually how an ie looks like from the side okay so um we're looking at a nose here and as you can see it's uh it's quite complicated so I won't be able to get into the actual like details and structure of the nose because uh then this video would take would take way too long but let's look at like like a few quick short hands of how you can just quickly deal with nose also from this kind of like 3/4 angle is it's pretty easy like you got a person here give me a second sorry you got you got some some dude here right uh his eyebrows are here and what happens is uh from the eyebrow it actually connects to the to the nose like the eyebrow kind of uh and then it comes back out right you just kind of get this and then you get the little uh the dot here I think it's called the nipples uh so just kind of do this it's a good little little short hand right uh so just kind of from this is the eyebrow and then it comes in comes out comes back in get the get the thing in and that's it so that's for the what's it called kind of like a three4 view and um uh I usually like to think about the bottom of the nose like the bottom plane is kind of just a triangle uh that's a good way to simplify things instead of making it too complicated you can see the the real thing is kind of like uh looks something like this and it's like all jangled up uh you don't have to deal with that right away so what I like to do is to just kind of think of it more like this like a triangle and that makes things a lot simpler you can actually kind of see me doing it on some of these heads here you can see a little like a triangle here for the bottom of the nose here triangle uh here you can't really see the bottom of the nose from this angle but here like a triangle so that's that's how I like to uh shorthand the nose uh and yeah that that's it for the nose and if you're drawing anime I think one thing you can do about nose is to just not draw it um a love Styles actually stra I just don't draw it they put like a little dot there and call it a day because uh yeah sometimes really just less is more and if you don't know how to draw the nose you know you should you should practice on the side but when you're doing like a finish piece you can just just just it just don't draw it okay now we're moving on to the mouth um if you thought the nose was tricky and difficult um yeah I got some bad news for you because the mouth is actually the most difficult part of the face to draw a lot of people think of it wrong they think like the nose is the hardest but really no you you the nose is nothing the mouth is actually super difficult uh but now we can uh just quickly look at how we can simplify it um so here you can see the the like closed mouth is the easiest it's just uh you got the top lip and then you got the bottom lip and then if you simplify it you don't even really have to draw anything right just kind of do it like this um another way to draw the closed mouth is you can actually draw like like this part here without drawing the the lips you can imply at the lips by doing kind of like like this but um this really does require you to like understand like the the structure of things and you can just you can imply it like this with a bit of shading and you don't have to actually draw it in fact you never actually want to draw these lines um yeah you see it sometimes oh I shouldn't say never some some Styles they do put the lines on the lips like that but usually it's not a good idea unless you're doing it intentionally uh but it gets like exponentially trickier when the mouth is not closed which a lot of times is not so we're going to look at um like a mouth that is slightly open and then we look at one that is uh completely open uh so that's like the three variations that are just the most common is the the the close mouth the slightly open mouth and then the open mouth so look at one that is slightly open you can just kind of Imagine This one opening up a little bit right so you got kind of uh this kind of thing going on you see the teeth right and know the the lips are still there right kind of like this you can see it's really just you're taking this moving it up and then taking this moving it down and then there's like a there's like a hole in the middle um and to simplify it without drawing it like this uh you can just it's kind of the same thing right kind of like this you just take this middle part and just only draw that part kind of like like this right um and then at the end we got uh an open mouth which is uh really tricky because you're going to see the teeth and the tongue and stuff let's try our best here something like uh like this and you're seeing the teeth and you're seeing like the the bottom teeth and then you're seeing the tongue and this is just this is the inside of the mouth that's why it's dark right the lips um so one thing to kind of keep in mind is that you can try to imagine the teeth as like instead of like individual teeth like like this you can think of them like little cylinders right like this is like the uh let me do it like this it's like the top row of the teeth and then you got like the bottom of the teeth right kind of like that and then the the tongues and and then the mouth will like you know they open like however ways like this right uh so when you draw an open mouth again it's the same thing you can just draw like this part without drawing the lips so like imagine the teeth being inside right the teeth the tongue and like that right you can play around with the shape it doesn't have to be too realistic where you can just make it kind of round that or maybe the mouth is only uh slightly open and you don't really see a lot of teeth you can just do it like like this draw the eye so you can kind of see what's going on okay yeah that's that's that's the mouth for the most part okay now we're moving on to the ears uh just kidding we're going to skip the ears because nobody cares about the ears and you don't even need to be able to draw it to be honest like honestly you be surprised at how many professionals don't know how to draw ears and well I'm not a professional but I I don't know how to draw an ear is this the best I can do um yeah just just the ears just skip it all right so uh we're back to here and let's uh try to apply what we've learned so far and turn these uh into actual faces now um so let's start with this one again uh so you got the eyes we can lower the guideline opacity a little bit so we can see better I'm just going to Loosely erase this quickly I can draw over it a little bit easier right so uh about the eyes remember right top eyelid lower eyelid and then the What's this called the iris right and then the top of the iris is darker than the bottom uh same thing on the other side top eyelid I try to make the similar shape in perspective lower eyelid Iris make the top part darker than the lower part and boom we got we got a we got a kind of a phas situation going on here right uh that looks not that great but you know it okay good enough whatever let's put give give some some eyebrows my nose again kind of follows where the eyebrow is start where it is come in come out bottom is a triangle right and you don't have to draw the triangle you can just kind of keep that in mind and uh this this thing here and then the mouth uh let's just keep it simple let's just do a close mouth uh you can do it like this right I like to keep a little little space here instead of doing like this to keep a little space there uh it's kind of up to you um but let's do the other version with the kind of implying the lips a little bit like this right there you go we got we got a face cool right I actually need to move this side a little bit oops okay um and then the ears I guess I'll try to draw it I'm not the reason why I'm not like telling you like how to draw the ears because I truly don't understand the the full structure of it I can only kind of fake it and there we go we got the first phase Let's uh let me just finish off the [Music] rest [Music] and there we have it uh just draw a bunch of faces from different angles and uh yeah I hope you learn something and try this out like yeah cool see you
