hello everyone and welcome back to a brand new tutorial series here on my youtube channel seeing as it's coming up to christmas i thought it would be a really nice idea to do a robin tutorial because robins are one of our favorite animals associated with christmas and they're just beautiful so i did try drawing a robin a few weeks ago and completely messed it up so i've chosen a new uh reference photo that i've got from a stock photo website and i thought let's just do a tutorial instead so everything that you need to know will be listed down below as usual including the line drawing the reference photo and the full list of the materials that we'll be using in this tutorial i'm gonna try and use mostly faber-castell polychromos um maybe with a few like luminance or pablo's in there but we'll see how we get on and if you don't have these pencils i don't want you to feel discouraged just find the closest colors that you can get they might not be the exact same texture as the pencils that i'm using but you can still give it a go and hopefully learn something new along the way so without further ado let's just get started before we start if you want to learn how to trace outlines and how you can get the exact same outline as me i've just uploaded a video in my last video and it's how to trace your perfect outline so it is this robin as well so if you need any help with tracing head over to that video i'll link it down below and i'm drawing this rubbing on an 8 by 8 inch piece of fabriano artistico hot pressed watercolor paper and it's in the heaviest weight i think it's 640 gsm extra white and that is my favorite paper it's really smooth nice and sturdy and you can get loads and loads of layer layers and details in there which is really important for realistic coloured pencil drawings so i'll link it down below anyway if you're interested but if you can't it's quite an expensive purpose so if that's not within your budget don't worry just do your best with what you can get hold of um so i usually pretty much well every single time start with the eye so i'm gonna use dart sepia i don't think it's very brown in the eye but we're just going to use this as a starting point and if you've watched any of my tutorials before you know that i always start with um a bit of a darker color so around the eye just to mark in where it is it's good to get that guide down to begin with and it just adds a bit of like a framework that you can work around so i like to get the eyes right first and then you know that it's gonna look all right so i'm literally making sure that my pencil is super super sharp and i'll link the sharpener that i use down below i'm literally just gonna go around that eye and i'm just looking at the reference picture as i do it just to make sure i'm getting that shape right i'm not pressing too hard it's literally just like a little guide of where that eye is just like that so now if we go to rub away any of the pencil marks in the eye that outer edge will still be there just gonna tidy up a bit and then if you can see here there's like a little lighter bit in the eye where the reflections are so i'm just going to start drawing this dark sepia underneath there leaving that bit white because it's much easier to leave a lighter section white and then go in with lighter colors than it is to go over it with a dark color and lighten it with a white a white pencil so the highlights will pop more if you just leave that bit white and i'm just gonna color underneath that line in the bottom half of the eye if there's a really really dark like sort of section with not much shadow sorry not shadowing not much detail going on then i do like to just color it in saves time and you could spend ages building the layers up but it'll look the exact same in the end so don't be afraid to just color some sections in there we go so now there's a little pencil line in the eye that i just want to get rid of you might not be able to see it but i'm going to use my kneadable eraser i really recommend these if you don't have one you can mold it into any shape that you want and it doesn't leave those little annoying bits that come off erasers so it's really good and you can literally just dab with it so you don't ruin any of the papers texture or take any layers of it off so now i'm gonna use a base colour of cold gray one in that little top part of the eye i like to use base colours to smooth the paper out and make like a nice smooth layer for the rest of the pencil to go on top of because it's all about layering with coloured pencils and you want to make sure that the pencils are going on nicely that's just the way that i like to draw personally but um yeah i like to use base layers on most parts of the drawing so i'm going in with cold gray one which is like a nice pale cold color one of my favorites for base colors and i'm just going to go over that top part of the eye so now any color that we add on top of that is going to just glide on and that is the main benefit of a base color for me and now i'm gonna add like a nice cobalt well it is literally called cobalt blue from the faber-castell polychromos so just find like a really nice like vivid blue like this and i'm just gonna use that really lightly just going in that left side of the eye if you can see on the reference picture it's really blue there and i'm just gonna sort of blend it glaze it glazing is where you just sort of lightly tap the color on i'm just gonna glaze it in like barely even touching the paper got a little line at the top and now i'm going to use some pens grey which is like the bluer equivalent of dark sepia it's like more of a blue toned dark color not great at explaining colors by the way and so i'm just going to use that can you see there's some like little shapes in this top highlight just going to start adding those in because it is more of a blue tone in that highlight just some like little little tiny little bits of detail and i'm just gonna run it over that right hand side a little bit really lightly i'm just adding little like parts of the pencil i'm literally just dabbing it just to add a little bit of detail through there like that now i think i might try and just lighten that left side up a little bit so i'm gonna use my favorite white which is the museum aquarelle white and if you don't have this i really recommend even if you're not using polychromos i recommend this pencil because it it it's like the best white that i've used the white from the polychromos isn't great it's not like smooth enough the luminance white is quite good but this is my favorite and i'm just gonna use it to ever so slightly just pick out a little bit of a lighter part in that left side of the highlight just enough so it pops a little bit more there we go and then i'm gonna use some black and a lot of people don't like using black until the end but as long as you're careful with where you put in your hand you won't smudge it so don't worry just try not to rest your hand over the eye too much and use a piece of whether it's tracing paper or printer paper just any scrap piece of paper to prevent your hand from like rubbing the drawing so just be careful with this but i'm using the black from the polychromos and just gonna darken up this bottom part and around this top edge of the eye just to add that extra layer of depth and to make it like pop a little bit more there we go that's looking good so now i think we're ready to move on to the area around the eye so all these pencil marks you just want to dab them away because they can make the colored pencil go a bit like dirty looking you want it to be nice and clean ready for your colours to go down so dab them away as much as you can like that and then i'm going to use cream from the polychromos which is like a creamy yellowy color gonna use that as a base and literally just start coloring it around the eye being careful not to go too close to the eye itself because you might smudge some of that colour so i'm just going around the eye you don't have to press on too hard with this colour because it is nice and creamy it goes on really smooth i'm just being careful not to tuck it too far around here because it is a bit more of like a white bluey color i probably have taken it too far just gonna dab it a little bit just try and leave that left side there we go i'll leave it i'll leave it at that for now don't want to go too far then the next color i'm going to use on top of that to start adding a bit of detail is dark nepal's orca and i'm a bit worried to go too dark too soon i want to like gradually build the layers up going a bit darker every time and because i want it to look nice and soft and not like really harsh so i'm gonna use this and i'm just gonna start doing some like little sort of lines coming out from the eye to add a bit of that feather detailing i'm not pressing too hard just sort of lightly pushing that out from the eye making sure to always go around and follow the direction and i'm gonna bring that to about here and then i don't know if you can see but there's like a line that goes around there and there's like a light a bit i'll just throw it in and you might be able to see but i'm just gonna draw that line around that bottom part of the eye it's kind of like a little eyelid in a way so i'm just drawing that around there and sort of comes a bit around the top as well just rub that line away so rub that line away there and it comes around here like that and then i'm going to start just mapping in some of those feathers so to draw these feathers i'm literally almost like drawing fur at this point because they're quite small and you can't really see too much detail here so i'm just tapping over and over like i'm doing little first draws following the direction those feathers are going like that and then here it's kind of some of those like lines again and i'm just gonna literally add some little lines coming down and following the curve of the eye like that you can't really see too much detail at this point to be honest and i'm just gonna extend that base color a little bit that cream i'm just going to bring it out up here but not too far because the color just changed there so i'm just bringing it where the orange parts are essentially try and get rid of that line a bit more i'll bring it down here a little bit like that and i'm going to use that dark naples ochre again to start adding a little bit more detail so it's a bit lighter up here and then it goes a bit darker around here so i'm just going to map in that dark a bit and to draw these little feathers i'm kind of just doing like downward strokes and i'm doing a strut to the left here and then bringing it so it's like a little shape like that so down from the left to the right it's not too dissimilar to drawing fur to be honest but it's something that you just need to get the hang of it's sort of like just changing the direction that that downward stroke is going sort of like moving your pencil from left to right to get more of like a natural looking bit of um shading you'll get yeah you'll get the hang of it but just take your time and just start bringing that dark naples orca down and i'm gonna make sure i bring it down to about here and i'm going to blend it into this lighter section blend it down it is very very similar to drone fair until you get to like these proper big feathers down here and the thing with drawing is you can make it as detailed as you like or you can sort of um make it look a bit less detailed the thing with drawing is you can try and make it look as detailed as the picture or you can try and um take a bit of that detail out it'll still look good at the end it's just how detailed you want to make it but i'm just going to draw here there's like a little like clear line going down there where those feathers are i'm just going to add that in and then i'm going to carry on bringing that colour down there carry on with some little pencil strokes in the direction those feathers are going in and then here just going to bring some pencil lines down just add a little bit of detail into that light a bit there we go that'll do and it's not like super super detailed at this point this is just getting the um base colors down i'm just gonna bring some down here too right i think we can go over that now with a bit of a darker color let's just add a few strokes up here there we go just to finish that little bit off i'm going to start adding some more detail around the eye itself and i'm going to try burnt sienna there might be a more like orangey color in there but if i get this detail in first i'll be able to see and this is like a red tone like a dark reddy brownie tone so i'm gonna start by just going around this little bottom eyelid part i suppose you could call it again start adding a bit more of a darker bit of detail just try and make it nice and round there we go and then i'm going to bring it up a little bit and i'm gonna start doing some of those little straps coming out of the eye again just at the top again not pressing on like super hard or anything just nice and lightly just pushing those pencil marks up i like my drawings to look quite soft so um sometimes the colors come out a bit lighter than they actually are but we'll try and get them as accurate as possible just don't worry they're never going to be 100 accurate i'm gonna carry on pushing some strokes out of this right side again just going around in a big circle like a big clock face almost you know just like going around always pointing towards the outside of like a big circle like that and then here where there was some little lines i'm going to add those back in just like little curved lines to imitate the look of those feathers put a bring on there as well i'm gonna do a few more lines just coming down here all right but and can you see how that's starting to build up a little bit of detail now and i'm going to start doing some more strokes coming down from the eye and into this section of feathers just again really really lightly just pushing the pencil down lots of tiny little light straps to build up that feather detail and i'm gonna add some and where we added those to map out the dark a bit i'm just going to go on top of that with some more the burnt sienna just paying attention to the direction those feathers are going in just really lightly tap tap tap building up that detail and here where that line was that we drew i'm just gonna add that in again make it look a bit stronger there we go and i think probably will need a bit more of a vibrant orange color in there but this is a good place to start to see where we need to add that in i'm just going to darken up some of these lines a little bit by pressing on a tiny bit harder and then there is a little one there i'm just going to add that in i think that's looking good though happy with that uh let's bring that yellow color this way because it's a lot more vibrant there and if we start adding the vibrant color in we can see how vibrant we need to go in this bit sometimes you get these little like um dots of darker pencil i don't know why that happens but it does and i don't know if there's a way to stop that from happening but just ignore those if you get any so i'm just bringing that base color of the cream bringing that out to meet that right hand edge above the beak just gonna get rid of that pencil mark a bit more and i'm gonna kind of do you can see like a little feather sticking out so i'm just gonna sort of like soften that edge not make it have like a harsh line just sort of feather it out a very fitting word for this drawing just softly just like blending it out into nothing there we go oh oh my gosh i just threw my pencil at my desk forever doing that i'm right let's see let's go on with the dark nipples orca again that next darkest colour from the base and let's just start adding the texture of the feathers just tap and dabbing the pencil on in little strokes sort of like alternating the direction they're going in so they look nice and natural i'm just gonna bring it up so sometimes i'll alternate between like up and down just sort of whatever my hand decides to do just not holding the pencil too tight either just letting it do its thing holding it quite loosely and just gonna again just let it blend out at that right hand side so it's nice and soft there we go it ends up looking just like one big like block of color but it's a lot softer doing it this way like building it up gradually there we go and let's use the burnt sienna again and add a bit of detail and then i think we'll go over that with a bright like vivid orange color so i'm just going to add a bit of this again so i'm just doing like really soft little strokes and i'm going to bring it over the beak like a little line just to add a guide of where that beak is and i'm just going to start bringing some strokes up just blending it all into that orangey section and then it gets a lot lighter so i'm i'm not going to take it too far to the right but here there's like a little dark orangey bit that i'm just going to add in and then i'm going to leave it because i want it to be nice and yellowy at this side and i'm going to add a few darker bits through that part and then let's see what vivid orange color should we use i'm gonna try dark chrome yellow really really nice vibrant orange color and i'm gonna try that first on top of this section again like i said before with the glazing you're just lightly adding that color on top layering it on top that does add like a nice bit of a bright orange but i don't think it's quite enough so we will need another color on top of this to be honest i don't really think that's doing loads um i'm quite surprised at that it is adding a nice like brighter orange in there to be fair just gonna bring it down over this you like yellowy bit a little bit and bring it down here slightly to be honest it adds like a nice like middle color before we add like the more ready orange on top of it it does it is making a difference sometimes i've colored pencils it's so subtle that you think is there any point to this but sometimes you just need that middle color to blend it together just bringing it over these like yellowy bits there we go i know i think that's good now we need like a vibrant ready orange and i think that color is going to be like cadmium red so this is really like pigmented and bright so i'm gonna use this quite sparingly to begin with where it's quite like ready orangey toned i'm just gonna really lightly tap a little bit of that color on there and then towards this like middle bit though just really gradually building up a bit more of a vibrant color not too much because it is quite strong but i think that adds like a really nice bit of color to it yeah that's really nice and then i'm going to start bringing a tiny bit down here just add a bit more of a vibrant orangey color there's so many colors that go into something like this you think oh orange you know there's about five different oranges and reds there we go i won't go too far with that i think we might need to darken up some of these details now that we've got that color in so let's use that burnt sienna again and let's go over these darker bits even more by pressing on that little bit harder because they've kind of got a bit lost in there so let's just go over press on that little bit more refine it a bit and then go around that eyelid bit and do some little lines over the top just with gaps in between just coming out of the eye just a case of like really gradually building everything up until it's at a point where you're happy with it definitely need a bit more up here and i'm gonna do some more little lines coming this way and need a bit more at the top i think here and a bit more running through this vibrant section just to add a little bit of detail back in there we go that looks good and i think now i'd like to move on to the top of this head a little bit and it goes quite blue here i'm just going to rub that line out so i'm gonna use cold gray one that nice like pale bluey grey tone color again and i'm just gonna bring it to about there i'm gonna bring it to that right hand edge actually blend it into that yellow color so it's seamless and do you know what let's just bring it it's hard to tell sometimes where the warm color is and the cold color is so i'm just gonna bring it around the top because there is like a cold colour to the edge of the um the top of the bird's head let's just take it over the whole head just going to rub out some more lines and it sort of like goes out a bit there like that right that'll do for now and let's see i'm gonna add a bit of that white again just to the edge of the head you know whether there's like a little like white glow around the edge just want to make that a bit more obvious so using that museum aquarelle white i'm just gonna sort of like blend that white into the edge to soften just soften it up a little bit it's very subtle but it just sort of gets rid of that harsh line there we go then i want to sort of blend these feathers into the the bluey section so i'm just going to use burnt sienna again and just gradually start really lightly bringing some strokes upwards so just like blend it into that section making sure to just look at the direction the feathers are sort of like going in just doing a little line there just to sort of blend it in a bit bring that up a bit you see how it just sort of looks like it's all the same like bit of the head now it doesn't look like two separate sections as much anymore i hope that makes sense just blend blend blending it up like that and now i want to start adding these like lovely blue flecks that are in there so let's try let's try sky blue to begin with see if that does anything i'm just going to start adding those little sort of flex those little um strokes into this bluey sort of like blending it up from that red just sort of focusing it to that area that is closest to the red bit because it does more of like a brownie warm color as you get closer to the edge of the head or the top of the head i'm just bringing it down here because it gets very blue there in this little bit bringing it down again just doing really light little strokes we definitely need to blend these sections in together a bit more there we go and then i'm going to use the ultramarine light ultramarine rather just to start adding another color bit more detail slightly darker version of sky blue just quite spicy just adds like another like element another layer of um feather deets i wouldn't say for further detailing i think that'll do and let's see let's just sort out this little bit here so i'm going to use the cold gray one and just sort of bring it towards the eye and that little lighter bit that we left there get rid of those pencil marks and i'm going to use that white again just do the same thing that we did before and just sort of smooth that color out lighten it up a tad like that and i'm just going to bring that cold gray one down ever so slightly there we go and i'm going to use the sky blue again and start adding that colour i'm gonna make sure i leave this little light a bit so i'm gonna sort of draw around that leave that nice light little bit there and then just start building that feather texture it's lovely and blue in this section there we go then i think we need to blend this orange bit into the blue bit so i'm gonna use a little bit of that um dark chrome yellow color because it's a little bit orangey here and i'm just gonna fade that color into the blue bit just blending it in light little straws gradually building it up and i'm going to use a bit of the burnt sienna again just add a little bit of that darker color blend that into the blue section as well just like that i think what i could do with darting this bit up even more it's gonna bring some more burnt sienna into this light a bit just to blend it a little bit more there we go there we go i'm happy with that that's looking good um i'm just gonna add a bit of that dark sorry light cadmium red that nice vibrant red orange just here and that little bit is coming up from the beak and let's just add a tiny bit more there we go let's start adding this warmer color into the head so now i'm looking at it there is like a slight pinky tone so i'm going to add beige red sometimes called light flesh that's the old name and i'm just gonna really lightly just add a little bit of that over the top of the head really lightly just to add a nice pinky tone it's very subtle just enough so that you can see it just like that blend it all in right i'm going to use a bit of nougat to start mapping in some fur detail you know where i said it's like a little bit warmer in the top of the head so i'm going to try it might not be the right color but there's only one way to find out so i'm just gonna give it a go adding a little bit of that colour that's quite nice actually adding it through the top of the head just adding it really softly so it's not too defined i'm just doing little like stroke lines and just going over and over until it starts to build up some of that colour might not be dark enough to be honest just following the direction those feathers are going in so they sort of like come down i think with feathers a lot of it is like the illusion of detail i say this in a lot of the videos but sort of making it look like there's loads of detail when really it's just getting the right like amount of darkness and lightness in the right areas just gonna bring it down here and i'm going to add a little bit spray here again okay that's looking good i don't think it's quiet enough it's gonna blend a bit up from this orangey section to try and just blend it together a little bit i think i need another color in there for definite right i feel like there's a bit of a purpley colour through this part of the head so i've got violet from the polychromos and i'm just gonna add some little little flecks of this through that head and i think it just adds a nice a little bit of color just sort of like doing it in little little um little bits and i'm just going to use a bit of that white again just to blend out that edge and let's see i might just soften it up a tiny bit more it's added like a nice um color to that head though i have just brought it up a little bit too much i'm just gonna tidy that top part of the head up a little bit and do you know what i'm gonna bring a little bit of the violet through this blue section too just a tiny bit just like that and now i'm going to use a bit of cold gray five i just feel like there needs to be a slightly darker blue color so cold gray five and just gonna add a tiny bit of detail just through this top part there we go just a little bit of detail through there i might even bring it down here a little bit we're getting there now i'm just going to bring that white around the edge again a little bit let's blend it all make sure it's nice and faded out and then i think i'm gonna go over the top of um this section with some warm gray five five and just i want to start adding a little bit more detail i'm just doing some little pencil strokes just to add some further details on top of all those colors that we've already added bringing it down here puppy and i think i'm gonna add a bit more of the um light ultramarine just a bit more blue i think running through this top part and through this left hand beside this blue section just kind of want to like blend it all together a bit i've just gone a bit too far there again i don't know why i keep doing that let's see a bit more there we go it's coming together a bit now and i think a little bit more blue just this light back part of the head i'm just gonna really lightly just like go over it with that blue and i might just do another blend with the white it's really good for blending light colors together especially if they're like bluey toned and i'm just going to add another layer of the warm gray five it's really like a case you're just gradually building it up with um feathers so peppa there we go and i might add a tiny bit more nougat just for a little bit more like a warm brown color just gonna add some nougat just through that warm apart just like that just sort of like brings it all together a little bit there we go and i think i might use a tiny bit of white just here before it's looking a bit patchy just want to blend that in make it look nice and blended it's a lot of layering for a really tiny section but there's so many colors in this bit that you just you want to get it all right i'm just going to add a little bit this through there we go that's looking nice now and i think one last thing i want to do to this section is just i want to just blend the orange bit in a bit more so i'm going to use that dark uh dark chrome yellow again and just go over sort of like blend this together i'm gonna add a little bit more to that right hand side and i'm just going to clean up any of the fallout from the pencils and i'm going to start bringing that yellow down here a little bit with the cream is the base and just around there and then i'm going to use the dark nipples archer and again just start mapping out those feathers just taking that pencil in the direction those feathers are going in sort of like come around and then start going like down in this direction so just like that and then i'm gonna use some of that um dark chrome yellow again just start building that up even more with this orange tone gradually building up that colour honestly the last rubbing that i did i completely messed it up i think they're really hard to draw well it wasn't the actual rubbing itself that i messed up it was the holly that it was sat on so i did the whole rubbing and it looked nice and then i messed up the um the greenery so that was annoying but i just thought oh do you know what should i try and put this now on with some paint and it just didn't didn't look right so now i know don't try and do that it just didn't quite look how as soft as i like it to look if that makes sense so i've chosen one without snore without um holly but i might try and add a bit of snow onto the branch after i don't know we'll see and i'd like it to look quite festive now i'm gonna use some of that burnt sienna and i'm gonna bring it out towards this left hand side and blend it into that blue section just like that and then i'm going to start bringing it just down through this section of feathers and then there's like a little bit coming down from the bottom of the beak i'm just gonna sort of like blend a bit of that color underneath the beak just doing little lines any way that i can see some like darker lines on the picture as well just gonna darken that little bit up add a few more little straps coming out there and then i think i need that vibrant orange color again and i'm just going to bring that through this section top sounds like a nice bit of vibrance so there we go i'm just going to slightly dab this top bit i think i've gone a bit too dark just above the eye so i'm going to slightly dab that and i'm going to add some of the um dark nail polish archer just for a bit of a yellow tone there we go i'm just going to go back to that light cadmium red just carry on bringing that color down and i'm just gonna bring let's just go for it and bring that yellow down to the bottom where it ends here because it is a bit lighter here i'm going to use ivory instead of cream it's just a bit lighter i don't want to go too dark just going to add that over this right-hand side get rid of that line to about there and then i'm gonna add the cream and sort of like blend it together and let's just finish off just yellow a bit i'm just going to draw where that line is where it meets the next color of feathers the black brownie so feathers i'm going to add that bring it to about here like that so i'm going to carry on just bringing that dark naples orca down and it gets a bit more like some more obvious little like feather strokes here so i'm just gonna sort of like bring some straps down and so just like add them in throughout this lighter section just for a bit of i'm detail add bring it down a bit further actually like that and i'm kind of just going to leave this edge quite light see how that looks and then i'm going to bring it down just to finish off that bottom part and i'm gonna carry on with the i'm gonna carry on adding a bit of burnt sienna just to define this edge so what i'm going to do is add some like little sort of like lines where the edge of it is sort of like coming up with some gaps between just to really clearly define the edge i'm sort of doing them in like different directions side art and just gonna bring some out toward this edge there we go and then i'm gonna use the dark chrome yellow and i carry on bringing that colour down nice and orange i'm gonna bring it down to the right side here just like that and then i'm going to use that um light cadmium red color again just add some more vibrant orange strokes in there just blending them out a few to the right hand side here but still leaving this nice and light like that and i'm just gonna add a few little little flicks of this um dark nipple oh sorry dark chrome yellow just to the edge just to define that ever so slightly just under that beak and then i'm going to bring it down a bit just want it to be a bit more clear where the edge is and i've added a little bit more this top part just like that it's starting to look a bit more like a rubbing now and add a few more it's that color pressing on a little bit more hard just running through this lighter section this one a bit more of a contrast i suppose there we go and i'm going to add a bit through this left hand side it's a little bit more like an orange there we go it up a little bit more and i'm going to add a few more flecks through there there we go that looks good i just want to define this top bit of the head a tiny bit more it's looking a bit too like all blended in together for me i just need a bit more of a contrast so i'm going to use cold gray five again and can you see where these like little dark bits are sort of just going over the head i just wanna add a bit more definition just in little patches so that it's not like all one big fuzzy section i want a bit more of a defined sort of texture through it so i'm just pressing on a little bit harder i'm just adding some little darker bits with that cold gray five and i think that is looking better now it's a bit more definition and shape to it there we go and let's do the beak just to make it look a bit less weird so i'm going to just dab away pencil marks clean it up and then i'm going to use dart sepia and just define that bottom part of the beak there we go and then i'm going to bring that up and sort of like here where it's a bit darker at the bottom i'm going to just define that edge and then i'm going to just color that section in just like that then i'm going to add a little bit of dark seep here just to this top edge like that and then bring a line a really thin line stop through that feet it's very hard to draw beaks probably done that line too thick just something like that and then i'm gonna use cold gray one as a base so just go over the top so we've got a nice smooth base for the beak now and it's really blue actually so i'm gonna use sky blue actually i'm gonna draw this little like weird shape in first so i'm gonna use dark sepia make sure it's like super sharp and then here it's like a little tiny little shape i'm just gonna draw in and that's got like an orangey color in it so i'm going to add the dark chrome yellow a little bit there and there's a little bit of an orangey color on the end of the beak just here so i'll just add that in and then now i'm going to use the sky blue just over this top part the top part of the beak obviously not going over that orange bit i'm just gonna bring it up to about there and i can see a little bit actually underneath so i'm gonna go underneath as well it's pretty much over the whole thing and now i want to use that cobalt blue again that really really vibrant blue and i'm just gonna go over the top part of the beak it's not going to look exactly the same as the picture because it's so hard it's such a fiddly little bit but you can get it as close as you can then for the bottom bit i'm just going to add a bit of cold gray five through there just add like a little line just for some detail and a little tiny bit of that cobalt blue just a little bit just like that and i'm going to define those lines that we made before just a little bit more so there's a little line there just like that and i'm going to darken up the underneath of that bake and this sort of like a line that comes just under that other line just ever so slightly there that looks more like a rubbing now and now that there's a beak it looks so much better and i was starting to worry a bit actually i was like is this going to come together or is it not just going to bring this line down a bit and then add a bit more to that edge and just again darken that little weird shape bit up there i might even pick out a bit of that orange with the light cadmium red just a tiny bit that's it there we go and i think now that we can see the beak you can tell how dark this orange bit needs to go so i'm just gonna add a little bit more of the light cadmium red just there and i think it needs a bit more on this section underneath the beak and a little bit here actually just darkening it up ever so slightly just gonna add a bit more there and a little bit more just gonna add a bit more of the dark nipples sorry dark chrome yellow i keep mixing them up a bit more of that just to blend out this light a bit just like that there we go and let's just finish off this blue bit so it's a nice point i'm going to add some cold gray one [Applause] and just bring it to about here just like that and use the sky blue to start adding some further detailing just bringing it in the direction of the feathers some little pencil strokes so there we go and i'm going to add a bit of the light ultramarine another layer of detail on top and then just to finish it off i'm gonna add a bit more a bit more through that section there and i'm gonna add a bit of burnt sienna just to blend into that blue section just like that i'm going to bring it down there we go do i need to add a bit more through yeah let's add a little bit of burnt sienna through just a little bit under the beak and a little bit of detailing through these feathers definitely some more in this bit next to the beak and a little bit just throw this a little bit here there we go just to add a little bit more detail and i'm going to use a tiny bit more cold gray five and i think i just need a little bit of definition here i'm just going to add a bit of that through there and then blend some of it into this blue section there we go and maybe a few little bits blended into this bit like that i'm just going to bring some nougat just through the back of this blue section there we go just to blend all that bit together okay i'm happy with that for now let's leave it there and i'll join you in the next video where we'll continue drawing this robin and i hope you've enjoyed it so please give this video a like if you have and make sure to subscribe if you haven't already so that you can make sure to catch the next part thanks for watching and i'll see you in the next one bye
