hey art friends today is pi day because it's march 14th which is pi 3 1 4. it's a special number in math yeah let's just leave it at that though how old are you six six just remember today is pi day it's the day we eat pies yeah do you want to eat pies today we hope you're gonna follow along with us right yeah what do they need for this lesson a marker yeah and some paper let's start first we're going to draw the top of our pie we're going to draw a rainbow line we're going to start here on the left side and we're going to draw we're going to draw a big pie like that we're going to draw a rainbow line we'll start here and we're going to go all the way over to there and then come back down for what's going to be a tall pie i like it it's going to have lots of stuff inside okay now we're going to draw a curved line down here at the bottom we're going to draw a curve to connect the bottom well it's the crust of the pie the crust is one of my favorite parts now we're going to draw a wavy line that goes all the way around our pipe well first let's draw two lines one that comes out it's going to look like a ufo or an egg yeah one line and another line now we're gonna draw the wavy line that goes from left to right and we're gonna go like this and then connect it over on the right side that looks like a big egg next let's draw the bottom of our pie we're going to draw two more lines but we're going to aim them in look at that in on both sides you know what and i'm going to draw this a little taller there we go it's two lines and they come in yeah one on the other side and then we're gonna connect the bottom with the same curve that we drew right here we want those to match and we're drawing them curves so that our pi looks 3d or round it doesn't look flat if we drew them straight it would be a flat pie yeah we like round pies now usually when you cook a pie you gotta you gotta put holes in the top so it doesn't explode in the oven so we're going to draw a raindrop shape right in the middle of our pie okay so right here draw a rainbow did i say rainbow raindrop raindrops yeah raindrop shape yes then we're going to draw two more raindrop shapes we're going to tip them to the side though watch this look how it's tipped it's aiming to the left so start there and then we're going to aim it over there to the left yeah just like that then we're going to do one more raindrop aimed the other way yeah doesn't it look tasty it looks really tasty what's our pie missing dude a fun face every time you do that every time when we draw funny food now you guys could leave off the funny face if you just want to draw a pie but let's add the funny face we're just going to draw two circles one over here and then one over here i think food always looks or you could draw them close together i like it and then you can leave a little space yeah there you go now inside of these circles let's draw smaller circles in the top right and one on the other side and then even smaller circle down here in the bottom left what okay now we're going to color in the big circles but leave the little ones white all right now we got to put a funny mouth in here now i'm going to draw a crazy one i'm going to draw a straight line and then i'm going to draw a big u comes all the way down and then back up and then inside we can add that tongue right we usually like to add a tongue good and a little curve inside for the tongue and then let's color in the top i also added little worried lines because he knows somebody's gonna eat them all right dude we did we finished drawing our pies yours turned out so cool except we still need to do one last thing what is it color it yeah it's gonna look so much tastier once we color it this part we're gonna fast forward but you guys can pause the video at the end if you want to match the same coloring that we do you ready to fast forward yeah i said good job man you did awesome on coloring your pie it turned out really cool i like it so much better when it's colored in now what kind of pies do we have purple purple or what flavor blueberries yeah blueberries sometimes when you cook the blueberries they look more purple don't they yeah now our pies look a little flat and that's because we colored them solid and you can leave your your drawings just like this if you want to keep the lesson nice and easy but let's make it trickier we're going to make them look 3d and add some shading so we have our black colored pencil and we're going to start on the edge of our of the tin the bottom part of our our pie and i'm going to start kind of dark watch this and as i come out towards his eye towards our pi's eye we're gonna get lighter and lighter until you can't see it anymore see how i'm getting lighter it's fading see how it's dark on the edge and it gets lighter do you want to try that yeah and then after you do this after it's dark on one side then you can switch back to the gray and you can blend it go back over top of your colored pencils and it will smooth out all of those pencil marks now we're going to fast forward and we're going to repeat the same step over here on the right side wow you're doing a really good job on your shading thank you all right let's fast forward i love your shady man how old are you six and look at that it looks super 3d because you added the dark shadow on the sides okay now that we're gonna add one more shadow on the bottom part of our pie and it's right underneath the crust so if the sun was shining down on our pie making it nice and warm we would have a little shadow underneath the crust right here so i'm going to go all the way around and i'm just going to press lightly and add a little shadow all the way across our pie then we're going to go back over it again with our gray colored pencil and smooth it out one last time ready to fast forward again yeah all right remember you guys at home can pause the video to take time to shade your pies also all right we've finished shading the bottom part of our pies now we need to shade the top part we're going to use brown it's kind of a red brown and we're going to make it look like it's been cooked it's toasty but it's also shading so we're gonna let's start down here on the crust and we're gonna do the same thing we did down here on the bottom part we're gonna start dark and then watch this i'm gonna get lighter and lighter and lighter until i'm barely pressing hard at all it's super light and right here on the edge you can press hard so it looks nice and toasty okay and then we're gonna repeat that same step over here repeat but go the other direction we're gonna start dark get lighter as we go this way and then we're going to go back over and smooth it out with our tan the first color we used ready fast forward again yeah all right now we're going to switch back to our brown and we're going to do the same thing with this little shadow except we're going to put a shadow on the edge of our crust so we're going to go right along the edge so we're going to go up down back up and just put a little shadow on the side of our crust it's gonna make it look thicker and more 3d it looks so tasty i'm really hungry i want to eat pie right now ready fast forward again yeah all right let's add one more shadow up here on the very top of our crust now this one might be a little trickier because we're gonna do a bigger space you can go all the way up almost and we're gonna start dark on the edge and then as we get towards the center get lighter and lighter and that's probably we don't need to go any further you could actually go all the way over the top if you want to and then we're going to switch and do the other side i'm going to turn my paper that's going to make it a little easier to do the right size you start dark get lighter and lighter towards the center oh it looks like it just came right out of the oven it's nice and golden brown the crust really is one of my favorite parts especially when it has a lot of sugar on it you ready fast forward again yeah all right this is the last time [Music] all right dude we did it we finished shading our pies and yours turned out my favorite i love it so much you did such a great job and i love how toasty the crust looks what was your favorite part the shading the shady that was my favorite part too now it's okay that our two drawings look different right they're not exactly the same yeah and it's okay if your drawings look different than our drawings because the most important thing is to have fun yes have fun and to practice practice and we'll see you later our friends goodbye oh and happy pie day yeah yeah should we go eat some pie yeah if you had fun following along in this lesson be sure to
