welcome to mechanical tutorial i am going to teach you different techniques in solidworks for mechanical engineers i am going to train you different modules like surface modeling sheet metal and enclosure design product design plastic components design reverse engineering and many more tips and tricks in solid work hi today's topic is how to develop the black flat lamp for a sim different so this is the cylindrical shaped metal component and i am going to show you how to calculate the track length of this cylindrical see here i have taken the hundred times of inside diameter so here whenever we create a sheet metal we have to maintain a gap between these two edges so i have taken point one [Music] it's mandatory i'll create a now i am going to show you how to calculate this manually later i am going to show you the software in solidworks flat length calculation if i consider the outside diameter then flat length is equal to outside diameter minus thickness into 5 that is 3.4 if i consider inside diameter and flat length is equal to inside diameter plus thickness into 3.14 so as i shown you i have taken the insert diameter see here this sketch is inside so i am going to consider this if i flip the thickness inside then i can use this top formula so as if now i am considering the inside diameter of the cylinder so i am going to calculate this flat length so this is the calculator so here inside diameter is 300mm and thickness so thickness i have taken 1m so you can consider any thickness two mm three ammo so as per so as for this formula flat length is equal to inside diameter plus thickness into phi here inside diameter is 300 if plus sheet thickness is 1 that is 3.1 into 5 that is 3.14 so i am getting 945.14 so this decimal value depends on the pi if the decimal value consider so there will be a slight variation in the decimal value so here i should get 345 so let's see in the solidworks so we have to go to sheet metal module and select tracking so this is the flat pattern let's keep it normal now select this edge see here in the bottom you can see 345.2 or else we can go to evaluate and select measure option select this edge see here i am getting 345.2 so that's how we calculate the blank flat length for a cylindrical sheet metal component thanks for watching [Music] you
