How to Cut a Deck of Cards with One Hand // Charlier Cut // Tutorial

hey guys uh I'm going to try to teach you a few things today uh the first is going to be pretty basic it's a one-handed cut and uh it looks like this it's actually called the charlier cut and um you know it's just a nice way to demonstrate skill with a deck of cards it's a nice little flourish so how they do this is um just hold the deck in your left hand your mechanics grip and the first thing you're going to do is you're going to bring your pinky back to the back edge of the deck like that okay and then you're going to just apply a little bit of pressure between your first finger and your pinky so you're kind of GNA you're going to grip the deck between those two fingers and then just straighten out your pinky and then you come over with your thumb and pick up the deck so basically what you're doing is going from here to here this is called a elevated mechanic scrip there's not much to it really I'm probably uh describing it more than they need to but just bring your pinky back and then lift off now once you're in this position all you're going to do is let about half the cards drop okay and so that you're all you're doing is releasing some pressure from your thumb on the lower cards let some cards drop and then you're going to you're going to come around with your first finger contact the bottom of those dropped cards and push up okay now I have kind of small hands so once I push up about halfway I can't go any further just because my fingers won't let me so at that point what I'll do is I'll release with my thumb and then I'll just balance the rest of the way so I continue to push up and this top packet is just balancing on the the right edge of the bottom packet okay so I continue to push up until it clears okay once it clears um I'm kind of just lowering my first finger to let this packet kind of fall flat okay so this packet is now resting on my first finger from beneath I'm just lowering my left my first finger to let it kind of fall a little bit and then my left thumb will just clamp down really completing the cut okay so in slow motion here's what that whole thing looks like all right that's the Charli a cut
