what's up guys it's coach drew and today we're going to talk about how to become a more consistent shooter I always talk about being comfortable confident consistent and that's what all great shooters have and so it's important that we're comfortable with our mechanics we also want to be consistent with our mechanics so we can get consistent results and then if we do that over time we'll develop the confidence to knock them down not only in practice but also in games now the consistent part is hard because we need to have consistent repeatable form so that we're shooting the same way every single time which is hard for two reasons one is because to kind of manipulate our shot in a certain way that we do the same thing every single time we have to really lock in our mechanics and two it gets boring at times you know when you're shooting thousands and thousands of reps to do something as minutest kind of hold your follow-through every single time or to make sure you're squared every single time or to make sure that you're you know maintaining your balance throughout their shot that is hard it takes a lot of discipline so we're gonna talk about a few things that will really help you lock in on your mechanics become more consistent and disciplined in your kind of approach so that ultimately you can become more of a consistent shooter so the first thing is we want the ball to spin really well we want that perfect backspin every single time and so there's a couple of things that can kind of mess with your backspin whether it's you're using your offhand thumb or whether using your offhand hand whether you're blocking the ball or whether your hands on the side so you end up having to snap the ball to the side or whether the ball is rolling off your wrong fingers instead of these two fingers there's a ton of different reasons but there's a couple things we can do to make sure we get perfect backspin so the first thing we want to do is a three finger drill we just simply find the air hole we kind of put our three fingers right there and we just snap it over and over again you can see that ball spins really pretty every single time okay once we do that we build up to five fingers so again now it's again one hand basically shooting and we're just making sure that that ball is rolling off of these two fingers but spinning perfectly every single time if we have perfect backspin it's going to give us a nice soft kind of release and then hopefully if we have our arm and our follow-through straight which is the next thing we'll talk about then the ball will move straight every single time so now once we have that perfect kind of one-hand backspin we want to make sure that our offhand is not affecting it if you use your thumb and you still get good backspin it's not a really a problem but ideally what we do is we kind of release it with our finger pads coming off and then we have a straight follow-through right here with our balanced hand instead of kind of every single time opening it up or exposing it or pulling it off so we just want it to be a simple shot so then the next step we do is we do two hands kind of shooting to make sure it's still straight every single time once we do that now we need to have a good consistent straight smooth shot so we don't want any hitches we don't want our hand flaring we want our snap down so basically right now you'll notice that my palm is facing the ground right here when I finish the snap and at the top of my wrist is pointing up so when I snap every single time you can notice that this arm is pointing right at the rim my pointer finger is pointing right at the rim and my arm is not flaring neither direction okay so next step is just making sure we get that consistent straight snap every single time the next thing we have to do is now our upper body is taking care of itself so now we need to make sure that we have good rhythm and a good balanced base so now we have a good balanced base whether you're squared or whether you're turn it doesn't really matter whatever boat whatever is comfortable for you and in what you're doing is you're just jumping up and landing in the same position I always like to say heel toe on the way up and toe heel on the way down so you notice when we start right here we go from heel to toe z' and then toes to heel so that every single time we equally distribute the weight off of both of our feet our hips aren't flying either direction we're staying in our box every single time and if we do those things we have a good balanced base both on the jump and the landing if we have a straight follow-through if it's high in soft so that we get good arc and good drop angle we make sure the ball is spinning perfectly I promise you you'll become a good consistent shooter over time if you put the reps in every single day my playing level just skyrocketed anyone that's serious about playing basketball needs to get you GT I would describe it as the best training program in the world this dog training program I create some monster on you you got experience it it's just on another level the best decision in my life was via the 1st PT
