[Music] hey hello and welcome to this really fun tutorial by promotion because today i'm going to show you how to create a winter wonderland so just follow me into after effects and as you have just heard this tutorial will be really fun hey it will also be really short because it's this time of the year again and i know we all don't have much time because there's so much to do before christmas buying gifts wrapping presents shoot some green screen footage download some assets install new plugins you name it so i thought why not show you a workflow that is super fast and super easy so you don't lose any time at all also for your christmas gifts wouldn't it be nice to create winter wonderlands from all your favorite pictures and videos you took got you so let's jump straight into this so today we will look at four easy tasks shooting the video changing the season comping in the original footage well me on top of the winter wonderland and as a finishing step i will show you how to use elements from envato elements to give it a final touch hey because on their page they have over 55 million assets from pictures videos templates fonts music sounds effects to 3d assets and they will once again come in super handy for this tutorial as we will add some falling snow from their library and with the link in the video description you get 70 of the first month so it's just about nine bucks for you to try it out and download as many assets as your hard drives can hold because you can keep everything if the subscription ends and you also have the full licenses for everything you downloaded and by the way if you think i talk too much you can use the timestamps in the video description to directly jump to the chapter you want to watch but there will be millions of handy tips and tricks so watching the whole video is recommended oh and by clicking the subscribe button you can unlock some extra tips and tricks well that's a new feature from youtube and you should definitely try it out but first things first let's shoot the video and therefore the perfect camera with all the right settings lenses and super detailed specifications are super unimportant because remember we are talking about a super easy and fast workflow so from my example i used my smartphone to shoot it so really every one of you can recreate that so make sure to film from a tripod or anything that works for you as a tripod hey or tell your cameraman or camera woman i mean smartphone man or smartphone woman to hold pretty still and just be aware that when you shoot it to also roll without you standing in the frame so this is why i left the image at the end well and because i always do that in my intros but let's quickly save a still image of this clean plate in after effects you can go to save frames file and in here i choose a jpeg and save it to my folder and call it winterwonderland1 and don't forget to hit the render button i've done that a few times and searched through all my folders before i realized and hey i do those mistakes for you so that you don't have to do them too oh and if you are in premiere pro and edit your shot over here you can simply click on that camera icon and that will also create a still image for you okay now up to the most interesting part the part why all of you are watching how to change the season within the image well and this is as easy as opening up photoshop by the way this is what i'm doing at the moment i'm opening up the image we just saved in photoshop and let's go straight to the filters and select the new and awesome neural filters and as we want to work on our landscape now let us directly activate the landscape mixer and before i jump onto any of those sliders let's click on one of the presets indeed on the very first one okay and is there anything else we need to do now that can't be everything right even a monkey could do that well the truth is bittersweet monkeys are the new visual effects artists well indeed any animal that is able to click a mouse button can do it honestly i don't even think that it has to be an animal you know these funny toys that are always knocking down with their heads well pretty sure that they could do it too okay before it gets too philosophical here let's quickly fast forward in the evolution back to real humans okay because now comes the part that only a trained brain can do we have to save it and i simply call it winter wonderland two take that evolution okay and now that we have done that let's import everything into after effects and up to the next problem well we want to have me standing in front of the winter wonderland so we need to do some clever road to work meaning cutting out myself frame by frame and again let's use adobe's artificial intelligence to help us here so let's quickly double click on the footage because now we are in layer mode and nut composition mode and with the rotor brush tool you can now define which parts you want to keep with a green stroke and when you hold down alt you can remove parts with a red stroke once you have the outlines we can work on the refine edge tool to get all the details for example in my hair and i have said this many times it makes total sense to go through the clip frame by frame and look out for issues even though after effects automatically adjusts the roto as well as the refined edge on each frame and i have absolutely no idea how after effects does it but anyways i trust the rotor brush and take the risk because you know no risk no roto and i click directly on the freeze button this means after effects now calculates each frame and puts all the information all tweaks all roto and all fine details into the effect and once done i can go back into my main comp and here i have the winter wonderland and on tops it's the roto we have just created hey and i hope you see that it doesn't really match and this is because of the temperature because the background has a cold color temperature meaning bluish and the foreground for example my skin tones are warm or reddish orange so let's change the color temperature hey or even better let's keyframe it so i can also show you how i did the reveal effect for that set a marker at the beginning and the end where i want to have the effect and i can name the marker start and end by double clicking on them and by the way i simply drag them out from here but you could also use the multiply key on your numpad to do so and now i apply the lumetri color effect and in here i have a color temperature slider and simply keyframe that to match the background and for the reveal i used the extract effect so when i bring this on my background clip you see this bar that represents the clip from bright white to dark black values and you can see it better if i solo the winter wonderland so when i drag the white to the middle you see that all bright parts disappear and when i move the bottom point i can create a small gradient a soft falloff perfect so now i animate it from the left so basically no values are there to the right and in this way it will appear based on its luma values hey of course i placed the original version without the snow beneath it and you can use that in so so many creative ways just think outside the box here and while we are thinking i'm also thinking about how to make this look even better and therefore let's jump onto the envato elements page again and search for snow hey and they have tons of preheat snow footage over here so i take one with big snowflakes and one with a bit smaller ones because now i can bring the smaller ones behind me and the bigger ones in front and create some more depth in my shot and let's also search for some winter assets for example the sledge that i used in my example because the cool thing is that envato also has 3d assets that means i can define the angle i want to use and that means that i do not have to search for a fitting asset because all assets will fit because i can always choose the right perspective and if you pre-comp your winter wonderland and leave all effects in this comp you can add as many assets as you wish to your background and in your main comp they will be revealed with the extract effect animation boom the power of pre-compositing and again i use the lumetri color effect to match the color temperature and mask out some of the snow hey and believe me or not we are done and can now fully concentrate on our christmas preparation and for all of you watching in australia or the other side of the world this also works the other way around so you can transform your winter wonderland into summertime so just play with the neural filters and their sliders in photoshop and now i leave the creative part up to you and i'm really curious what you will come up with oh and if you still have a few seconds why not use them to like comment share or subscribe that would be my only wish this year okay and now i wish you a merry christmas and a lot of fun creating your own winter wonderland in after effects [Music] [Music] you
