hey guys Scott from fright props and today we're going to be taking a look at some escape game centric technology here we have our keypad input trigger and a mag lock and today we're going to take a look at how you can program your keypad to open a mag lock so let's get started the first thing we'll have to do is actually program the keypad to the code that we want to be the correct code that when entered will open the mag lock so this is how the keypad will come and the first thing we'll need to do is actually remove it from the plastic housing and we can just set that aside and turn it over so on the back you can see the circuitry that controls the keypad and some terminals here and that's where we're going to be connecting power to the keypad as well as to the mag lock and also how we'll be connecting the mag lock to the keypad so that the mag lock opens once the correct sequence is entered into the keypad today we're going to be operating everything off with 12 volt power so the first thing we need to do is connect 12 volt power to the keypad there are two terminals here negative and positive and we need to connect our power supply to those terminals the easiest way to do that is to use what I have here this is a power supply adapter with wires and in order to get power to the keypad we're just going to install these two wires into the two terminals for negative and positive power the red wire will go to positive and the black wire will go to negative simply insert the wires into the terminal and then screw them down since we're using 12 volt power both to power the keypad and the mag lock we're going to use a 12 volt 1 amp power supply since we installed our adapter we can easily just plug the power supply into the adapter and then plug the adapter in off-screen to our left as soon as we put power in the unit will start to beep in order to stop the beeping simply hit 1 2 and the pound sign and the beeping will stop we're now ready to program the keypad in order to do that we'll have to enter programming mode and to do that we have to enter our master code the default master code for our keypads is 0 0 0 of zero so we simply enter zero zero zero zero and the star key twice and now we're in programming mode if you want to change the master code you could do so now but for this demo we'll just stick with the four zeros the next step will be to set the user code you can have up to the thousand different users of course for this demonstration we just need one so to do that we're going to hit 1 0 then the number 2 then 0 0 1 for user number 1 and then our code that we want to be the correct code that opens the Maglev in this case I'm going to do 1 2 3 4 and then we hit the pound sign the next step will be to set how long we want the relay to be engaged for once the correct code is entered for this demo we're going to keep it at about 3 seconds but you could have it be pretty much anything you want in this case the length the relay is engaged for is the time that the Maglev will be open so depending on your setup you might want that to be shorter or longer in order to set the time that the relays engage for we simply hit v 1 then the number 3 for 3 seconds and then the pound sign now to exit programming mode we simply hit the star key twice and we're all set now when we enter our code that we've set for user number 1 1 2 3 4 and the pound sign you can see the green light comes on the relay has opened for 3 seconds and it will click back off next we're going to connect the mag lock to the keypad your Meg lock may have a compartment that you have to open to get to the internal circuitry we've opened this one here and you can see that there is a circuit board inside and these are the two wires that control the power going to the mag lock we've installed a couple of basic wires 22 gauge low voltage wire and then routed them out through a hole through the sides so that we have access to them once we close the mag lock back up your main lock may already have wires like this installed so this is an optional step you might not have to do your standard mag lock will consist of two parts the actual magnetic lock itself and then a metal bracket which can be attached to your door when powered on two will be magnetized together when power is cut off they will of the plate to release we're going to go ahead and unplug our keypad for now so that we can install the mag lock into the keypad we're going to leave our power supply adapter wired in because we'd still want that the first thing we need to do is to bring power over to the relay this keypad has a single relay output and you can see that it's labeled here NC common & NO because we want the lock to be receiving power by default until the relay is engaged and switched off we're going to go ahead and use the normally closed and the common output the first thing we need to do is get power over to the relay so we're going to be using a jumper wire to go from the positive of the power input over to the common of the relay output and to do that we just have a spare piece of 22 gauge low voltage wire and we're actually going to share that terminal with the input from our 12 volt power supply with this jumper on the positive output here we'll just loosen this might be easiest to remove the wire and then twist these two together and reinsert into the positive and then tighten the screw back down the other end of this wire will go to the common terminal of the relay output insert the wire and then tighten the screw back down now we just need to install the wires from the mag lock into the keypad we're going to be taking one wire and putting into the normally closed terminal of the relay output and the other wire is going to share the negative terminal it doesn't matter which wire goes to which in this case so we'll just pick a wire and we'll put it into the normally closed terminal of the relay output the other wire will share the negative terminal the power input with the existing wire so we just need to loosen that take that wire out screw the two together and reinsert it and then tighten back down I'll post a link in the description of this video to a document that shows this wiring so you can get a little bit better view of what's going on here we're now ready to power on our keypad again so we'll just reconnect power again the keypad will start beeping and we just hit one to pound to stop the beeping and the mag lock should now be activated so you can see now that the mag lock is very securely fixed together all I have to do is enter the correct code and the Meg lock will open so I enter one two three four and the pound sign and the mega lock has released after three seconds the relay will click back over and the lock will be energized again so that's a quick overview of how to wire a keypad into a magnetic lock now we're getting more and more questions about how to use the technology that we have available in escape room type environments so we'll be doing more videos about that in the near future as always if you have any questions go ahead and post them as a comment to this video or send us an email at sales at fry crops calm thanks
