alright guys it's that guy from the brown neck reviews coming at you with another video this time just want to show you how I clean my ar-15 weapon here's a couple things that I use when I'm cleaning I use the EM Pro 7 right here and this is basically to get off any kind of brass that's been built up on the weapon I'm usually built up around here so I'll usually take it off there this MC 25 gun cleaner degreaser you can use this to clean off carbon also this is a I guess a little bit gentler and then the M Pro 7 and last is the gun oil which is the MC 25 gun all that I use to to lubricate the bolt on the AR I also use this right here which is a star chamber brush this is to get out any kind of carbon that's in the star chamber of the AR which is kind of a tough spot to get stuff out of and I use a bore snake to clean the barrel and this super high-tech cleaning device here which is an old toothbrush so stay tuned and we're gonna go ahead and start cleaning all right so we're gonna start cleaning this weapon now had this build for about uh you know about maybe a month now and I've shot about maybe five hundred rounds through it so the first thing that I usually do when I clean my weapons is especially with an AR platform is to take it apart and that's one of the good things about the AR is that it's a modular platform so it's easy to disassemble and with the AR with this particular one I need to move the brains back to have access to my takedown pins so I just move it back pop up out the rear and also the front takedown pins so you can see them popping out right there and right there alright and this was cleared already so I came to you guys that are freaking out yeah I didn't clear it bro you cleared it okay and the first place that I'll concentrate on when cleaning is the upper and any of the upper parts that need to be cleaned and usually when I start I start with the bolt okay so pull that out alright and if you're not familiar with how to remove a bolt from an AR basically just gonna pull it out with the charging handle pull out the forks first alright and the charging handle should also come out right there okay so I'm gonna put away my upper for a little bit and we're gonna concentrate on the BCG or the bolt carrier group which is this piece right here and you can see this is nickel boron bolt everything on there is basically supposed to wipe off pretty clean and pretty easily and I found that to be true I've had this bolt for about three years now and I've shot numerous rounds out of it I don't remember what company made this but it's been working really really good for me for the last couple years it's been really easy to clean perform flawlessly and if I can remember I'd let you guys know I think it was a actually Palmetto state armory or one of those one of those cologne type companies but I'll take this apart first and to take out the the BCG you're gonna see a little pin right there and you just want to kind of pull that out okay see that so it'll pull out that pin right there alright and what that'll do is allow you to remove the firing pin from the bottom okay so now that this is that and that should come right off so firing pin is not not too dirty but you can see some carbon some carbon on there and then you want to take out the cam okay the BCG cam so you're gonna basically what that pin comes out it's gonna be turned like this alright so you got to turn this 90 degrees and then that should allow me to allow it to just drop right out okay and then we want to take the bolt out okay so you can see there's a little bit of carbon buildup on here it's not too bad but it's there and you can see a little bit of carbon in there also all right okay so let me go get some towels and we'll start the cleaning process on this BCG all right so we're back and now we're gonna about to clean the BCG there's not any particular order that I go through it's whatever I find so I usually start with the firing pin okay and this firing pin is pretty easy I can I guess I can just wipe the carbon off off of it okay and you'll see sometimes buildup on the firing pin like right there and you'll see like a ring of carbon on it sometimes so I like to get that off as much as possible if it's really built up I'll use a copper brush and just kind of spin it around until that carbon comes off okay just like that and that should get rid of the majority of whatever's on that on that piece side you can see it's already cleaned off pretty easily okay and then once that's clean I'll set that aside all right and wipe off the uh I guess is the the bolt with the extractor on it and I don't take this completely off completely apart I'll just clean up enough just to get it clean alright you can see that the carbon wipes off pretty easily because of the nickel boron coating and you really want to get this area clean right here where the where it goes into the star chamber because you don't want carbon buildup in between these geared looking things here because that olá affect your performance the performance of your weapon when it goes in locks and then cycles back so you want that to be as free as possible and also clean right inside here okay to get any any of any carbon that's in there alright because that's where your your cartridge basically seats into and if it doesn't see properly you may be prone to any kind of some kind of jamming issues or whatnot and you really don't want that so you want your weapon functioning perfectly all the time so I'll try and get underneath the extractor a little bit to clean under there make sure there's no carbon and I'll spray a little bit of um cleaner on it just uh just to get it a little bit clean and this is especially important if you're using a BCG that's that doesn't have this nickel this fancy nickel boron coating on it like a parkerized BCG basically the black ones and you want to get those nice and clean as much as possible the other spot that you want to concentrate on too on this piece is right here all right and you'll see carbon buildup right there all around that and if it's really tough again I will use that that brush right here to kind of just spin it around it until it gets gets rid of that that buildup that carbon buildup that's all that's all around there alright because I want that to basically go in and see flush within my bolt so it doesn't have any malfunctions the other thing that you can use to as a pipe cleaner to go inside here I don't have one right now so I'm not going to use one but it's good so you can get the carbon that's built up on the inside there where your firing pin goes in so we'll get this nice and clean okay alright so I'm going really quick right now just for the sake of the time on this video I don't want to bore you guys too much with this well yeah it's also good to have some q-tips around to get into recessed areas of this so I just kind of spin this in here alright this is where your rear bolt cam goes into and so you want the inside of this area also to be pretty smooth and clean because as this as this moves back and forth it'll uh it'll create some friction in there alright so we can see our little bolt is uh pretty clean right now alright set that aside and then clean this okay this right here a lot of people sometimes neglect but you want these surfaces to be smooth because this is actually going to be moving back and forth in your bolt locking and unlocking your your bolt in the star chamber so you want this one especially on on these areas to be as clean as possible and also inside that hole because that's where your firing pin is gonna go through and go back and forth in there too right so again this is a nickel boron bolt so it's it's been pretty easy to wipe down and clean I really don't even have to use any solvents or anything on it and you can see it's already coming out pretty nice and then of course we'll go to the bolt itself okay so you can see I'm wiping it down and it's already everything's basically coming right off okay you can see they just wipe right off with this with this coating so if you've never used the nickel boron bolt they're they're pretty good and I think well in my opinion I think they I think they live up to the high point of whatever hype there is for a nickel boron bolt well yeah they just wiped down pretty clean and again if you're using a parkerized bolt which is one of those black ones with the protective coating on them you're probably gonna want to might want to use a little bit of solvent to get them clean all right so I'm gonna get in there and it's also a good idea to have some cleaning patches around and a nice AR cleaning kit because then you could have you could attach the extensions to do other things that you need to do alright so you can see on the inside there it's wiped down pretty clean and I don't know if you can notice but way in there okay you want to see to make sure that there's no carbon around that ring that's silver ring in there if there is you're going to want to take that off because that may also affect your bolt cycling properly okay so yeah get that all nice and clean in there and also you want to pay attention to the - this area right here where your where your cam goes into okay because you want these surfaces to be smooth for it to just to cycle that bolt correctly alright so wipe that down a little bit now with these types of bolts you know they say oh yeah you don't need to lubricate them or anything but I like to anyway you know it's still it's still a moving piece just like just like in your car no matter how nice that the pistons are coated with whatever coating they use you're still gonna use engine oil so I guess I apply that also to this to my weapons too and I just want to basically make sure that they're ready to go whenever I need them of course for target practice so putting this back together actually the other last piece I forgot was the retaining pin okay I just want to wipe that down make sure there's no carbon on it so when it goes back in it's nice and clean so when we reassemble this the bay ar-15 has this bolt and there's these three rings in there okay I don't know if you can really see on the focus there it's probably pretty bad on my camera but there's these three rings and they've got these little notches in each one there's one there and then and there's one there also you can see the little black notch and then right there on the middle ring black notch there okay you don't want those things to line up you want to make sure that they are spread apart when you're putting this thing back together okay so you can see that right there then what I'm going to do I'll just just put a little bit of gun oil on the freaking areas and one of them is right here okay just spread that around on there again if you want you could probably use a motor oil on this thing but I already got this gun oil so I'll put a little bit on the Rings right there just to get that nice and lubricated all right there we go okay then we're going to put this back into our into our bolt so this right here basically is the extractor all right so you want to make sure that the extractor is at about a 10 o'clock position when you put it back into your bolt right there all right when you're looking at it put it in there okay and that should line up your cam hole right there now I'm not sure how it is with other bolts but I know that if you don't have this this in the right spot you're not going to be able to put your camp cama in there and properly and it's not probably not going to fit and I'll also lubricate this also like I said just because this is a friction friction piece didn't get to use the lot and I'll pop that right in right here you may have to wiggle it around a little bit okay so there should come right in all right and then what you want to do is turn this cam 90 degrees okay because then you want the hole to be lined up and you put in your firing pin all right so you're firing pin I usually put it in through here and I just uh pop it in there actually you get some oil just coat it with a little bit of oil on there okay all right and then we could put our firing pin back in there okay okay I should pop right in okay so you want to make sure that that is as flush as possible before you put your retaining pin back in to the side there okay a little bit of wipe down on there and when you when you push that in and if you flick it it should just come right out if it's properly lubricated okay you can see that all right and that is that concludes the cleaning of our AR bolt again I didn't have any pipe cleaners so it's a good idea to have some to kind of use insight where the gas tube goes into right here on the key and also maybe any other places that you may need to you all right so now that we've cleaned our BCG I also want to clean the charging handle okay now depending on how much use you have for on your AR this can get pretty dirty because a lot of the gases when they come out of the gas key right there will actually build up on here you got some carbon and all that kind of gunk this is a BCM gunfighter charging handle that I use pretty good I've had this for a couple years also it's been reliable and now I'm just gonna clean it down so it's gonna wipe it down first then clean that little Channel in there for the gas key it goes back and forth and I'm gonna use a little bit of solvent I'd get rid of very good and I can see the words coming out on their little BCM gunfighter now I don't know about some people but I like to I like to put a little bit of Lube right here in this channel or do the UH for the bolt cycles back and forth because that gas key is is in there and it's going back and forth as the gun cycles so I like to have that leaped up a little bit when I put it back so yeah it's wiped down there's about as much as I go as far as cleaning when I'm cleaning my charging handle and then I'll put a little bit of up gun oil just right in there so you can see his little thin film okay and that's cleaning up the charging handle part and so the next next piece we're going to go up do is the is our upper this little baby right here so and clean this next so stay tuned all right so now we're gonna clean the upper a couple things that I use when cleaning the upper I use a bore snake you know good good one you you want to use a good bore snake because sometimes if you use the cheap ones that you get on eBay sometimes they won't uh little brass things won't actually go through the barrel so just be careful just get these are inexpensive anyway you can get them for anywhere from nine to seventeen dollars and then I'll use the star chamber brush right here it's extremely useful in cleaning an AR star chamber I wouldn't even try to clean one of those without this thing and some extensions now depending on how long you barrel is you might need a longer one or shorter one or whatnot and then have a couple of cleaning patches on hand okay and maybe another another little brush to have and of course your solvents ready to go to clean so you can see okay some of the areas that will build up dirt on this on AR upper is right there around that gas tube you can see some carbon buildup on there alright and also along that that rail or that that cavity right right in there where the charging handle goes in okay and then of course you'll have you'll have carbon all along here right here that you want to clean out make sure your boat bolt moves freely so the first thing that I do usually is I like to attack the star chamber first and so I'll I'll take my chamber brush and put it onto one of the extensions here then what I'll do is I'll put it in there and just push it right in there okay you just pull it out and do that a couple times and then get it in there and then then spin it all right so I'll do this in a in a clockwise motion so that it doesn't release my brush my chamber brush from there okay so it'll spin like this okay and what that does is it is it cleans the the recess that's in between the star chamber and your and your bolt or you're both goes into and locks and so that will give you a smoother operation of your bolt cycling back and forth okay so as it goes in there it spins just like that just to get that carbon out of there all right so once that's done your chamber okay so our chamber is right in there you can see that's your star chamber right there all right for the AR guess the lighting is not very good here but trying to get a better close up in there all right you also want to clean the feed ramps there's a better picture for you you can see the grooves that are cut into that chamber where the where the bolt would go in and then lock and rotate within there okay so you want to keep that area clean you also want to make sure that these feed ramps right here are smooth because that's that's where the tip of the bullet will actually slide on into the chamber itself [Music] and that'll give you proper feeding and ejection of your rounds okay and then what I'll do after I get that chamber nice and clean I'll move on to actually the barrel and for that I'll use a I'll use a bore snake and I'll put the cleaner on the first part of the bore snake right before these little brass you'll be able to see them feel them when you get a board that you'll you'll see these little brass things on there and that's to uh clean up the lands and everything that's in the barrel all right so I'll spray some cleaner along this area right here you don't have to spray so much but might be overdoing a little bit okay and it's what you're gonna do now is just put the the metal piece right in there this is right in and you want to go one way alright so it comes out the front right there you're gonna pull pull on this thing and you're gonna repeat this step I do about about five times on just uh doing regular maintenance on my guns and I find it we get some pretty clean if I'm using if I'm cleaning a something for super accuracy you know I'll do it more and also maybe I'll go to a actual brush and rod but for my yards they're usually pretty easy maintenance yeah sometimes it might be a little bit tough when you're pulling this but as long as you get the right divorce snake for the right caliber you should be good to go okay so this bore snake is specific for two to three five five six okay see that right there all right so run through one more time now I didn't uh do the star chamber too long just for the sake of time but usually it takes me a little bit longer to get that area clean okay and you can see I'm pulling it out the barrel direction of the UH of the bullet going out so when I want to put this thing in it goes in through here and then I pull it out that way all right and then after that barrels nice and shiny I'll check it you know just do a little visual in there make sure that I don't see I don't see any carbon within the barrel or the lands I'll move on to the inside Channel where the gas tube is all right and what I'll do with that is I will use another brush and I'll actually use like a smaller brush but I'll use this to actually hold the cleaning edge now if it's uh if it's not severely dirty you may want to to brush in here a little bit okay just to loosen up any kind of any kind of carbon that you have in that channel for the for the charging handle all right especially around that gas to want to get that gas to nice and nice and shiny on there okay and one of the things that we'll use believe it or not is uh baby wipes on this thing and we'll actually well I'm using a patch but baby wipes I don't know for some reason they just clean it really nice and all but here today I'm just gonna put some solvent on cleaning patch and I'll use that clean in between there where the gas tube is alright just get all that carbon and gunk out of there make it nice and nice and clean and so this ol basically make it smooth for for the cycling operation of the gas system actually when you're charging it'll it'll feel nice and smooth so if you don't have it any odds a little dirt in there it's possible alright so you can see carbon buildup on my cleaning patch here okay then I'll run that also along the sides of the inside of the receiver and also into that star chamber just to get you know anything else out and also use a toothbrush to clean out that that chamber of any any other carbon that might may be in there and spray some solvent on toothbrush okay just kind of go in there clean that out pick those feed rags nice and nice and clean and you know as much as much carbon out as possible okay also clean the outside right here of the injection port in the ejection port cover I got a lot of gas buildup around those areas you know quartz around here get them nice and clean and then wipe it down with your do-rag okay you'd all nice and clean in there then you can also use the extensions to get into that channel to clean out you know anything left over in there just like that and then how they need any debris left in the Star Chamber and on the feed ramps so now you can see the gas tube is visible got the carbon out a little bit cleaner in in the receiver and that'll give you a smooth operation of your move your bolt then once that's done also I forgot and I'll use this this is uh Emperor 7 itself is really good at getting brass off of stuff so I'll use this too on the deflector the brass deflector right here where I get some build-up you can also use this on bolt to right there in the where the extractor is on the bolt and it works pretty good and that'll clean off a lot of the brass that builds up on this deflector right here okay you can see now it's nice enough nice and black you don't see the the goldish coloring of the deflector the brass on there and then I'll put a little bit of gun oil on the inside of the receiver okay just to make sure that bolt cycles nicely well what's in there okay I usually don't put any gun oil in the in the charging handle channel just in this area right here you see getting all nice and shiny in there so when we reassemble the both into there it goes on it goes in nice alright and that's basically what I do for the for the upper receiver when uh when I'm cleaning it okay and also right here in this area right here I'll also clean this with because there's a lot of carbon it builds up around this area especially if you're using something like a regular a2 flash hider that'll put gasses all over the place and so you want to clean a lot of that stuff off off the front of here upper assembly okay then I'll just give it a nice little wipe down get nice and clean on the upper okay now if I want it to be really really anal about this I'd probably take the handguard off and and also clean around the outside of the barrel and also the gas gas tube and gas block assembly I don't know if you can see that in there but um sometimes you will get carbon on the around the gas block and also the gas tube and you can you could clean that off too okay so once it's oiled in there and radiates I'll put in put the charging handle and bolt back in on my upper receiver okay so here's the Bolton cleaned earlier alright put a little bit oil on it again I guess that a lot of people say that's it's not necessary to oil these things but I like to I like to own them up just knowing that you're some kind of lubrication going on so you'll hear different things from different people you know yeah you should run your AR dry or what but I think I find that running running AR bolts what actually runs better then if I run on dry so and usually I want to put it on the points put the oil on the points where it's gonna make contact with the receiver usually and you can see it's usually on these rails right here it's kind of faint but this rail right here is which is raised up it's gonna make contact in and right here along the gas key that and the top of the gas key right here okay these rails right there and then back here also oil it up a little bit right so that it's smooth going in and out of the the buffer tube okay all right so that's ready to go and now I'm also gonna get me a good the charging handle okay so if you've never for the charging handle into an AR usually there is a little you see if we can find it here on the camera a little channel that these go into okay so you kind of put them in like this first and then there's two ears on this on this charging handle well on any standard milspec you'll see the two two ears right there alright right there and on the other side of it and so that's gonna key in when you put it inside onto into your receiver channel it's kind of hard to see in there but it'll actually key into that there you heard it go in all right and then you push it forward just a little bit okay so that it's retained in your receiver and then you put in your bolt now before you putting in both some people will forget to actually pull this out pull the bolt out okay so that is it so that it's extended because if you have it right here you're gonna see that the cam is tilted that way and it's not gonna it's not gonna go in at all all right so make sure that that's pulled out and it's extended all right and that your cam is straight with the gas key look at it from the top you can see that the cam itself is already straight all right you're just gonna put it in there just like that okay and slide it right in I usually just slide them both in this one assembly all right and so your upper receiver is now reassembled and cleaned okay so next thing we're going to go over is the cleaning of the lower and the and the buffer tube and the buffer spring so stay tuned and be right back all right so now we're gonna move on to cleaning the lower on our AR pistol okay first thing that I do when I clean the lower is I will take out the buffer and the buffer spring and in order to take it out your hammer should be lowered back down you'll hear it click and hold into place and that just makes it easier to pull it out and you'll see here a little pin right here okay that is retaining your buffer and buffer spring so you push that in right and at the same time I'll push the buffer back okay and then let it go and now you can pull out your buffer and spring they should come out pretty easily just like that all right so what I'll do in cleaning this is I'll go and take some q-tips or or like a little patch and just the clean on the inside but release the hammer now if you're gonna release the hammer with without the upper and the bolt installed you want to hold it because you don't want to when you release the hammer for it to slam against your receiver and also your bolt catch so I'll hold it down pull the trigger and release it slowly okay so it's not snapping back because you can see where where it'll make contact right there okay so this is just a standard milspec tribute group if you got one of those fancy AR triggers well then might be a little bit different but that's what I do all right and I'll clean in the recesses here and here actually just wipe them down okay and maybe I'll use some q-tips in there if if it's had a lot of use just to make sure that you know a lot of the carbons off so of course I'll clean around here around here you know then this but what I'll also do sometimes is take the cleaning rag and another extension okay and I'll use the some of these brash bushes to actually hold the cleaning rag in place depending on how long your your buffer tube is if you're using a rifle buffer tube or or a carbine or then you know use the right thing and so I'll I'll put the cleaning rag over this and I'll clean inside the buffer tube because you want to make sure that there's no friction well as little friction as possible on your spring and if it's dirty in your buffer tube that's gonna cause friction on your spring when you're when it's cycling back and forth okay and some of these Springs this one's fairly new spring so it's still pretty smooth and what I'll do with this is I mean the spring off also and I'll put a little bit of a with the solvent I usually don't oil the springs when I put it back in I'll just clean them okay and then I'll put the of the towel or you know maybe you'll use a cleaning patch and just put it in between the springs like that okay so you can see and i'll just follow actually there we go put all the way through just like that and then pull it so that it wraps around the spring itself and then I'll just follow the spring and as it does this it'll actually wipe off whatever whatever carbon is on the spring or dirt or whatnot so that when the spring makes contact with the buffer tube it's a smooth well fairly smooth compared to if it would have had dirt on it and I like to keep this part the buffer tube in the spring spring assembly I like to keep that part dry so it doesn't attract a lot of dirt during this operation okay so now my spring is clean and I'll just wipe down the buffer that I'm using just so it's nice and clean okay so now that my buffer tube and my Sprinter clean I'll just put them back in and again gonna reverse the step and I actually just clean in there a little bit a hammer just want to make sure there's no carpet on there and I'll clean around inside here all right yeah ideally you want to use q-tips probably for this operation when you're doing this okay so gonna put the hammer back again and then I'm gonna insert my buffer and my buffer spring okay so you don't need to push down on that pin you should be able to just put both of them in there and then all the way back until until it's retained all right so wipe down my lower receiver a little bit okay wipe it down those points right there okay and now it's ready to accept to accept my upper receiver so we'll get these out of the way and we'll put the upper receiver back on so make sure your pins are out all right line up the rear and the front holes okay all right and now you get a notice when you put this on you may have to push it back like that because it it's the buffer tube and spring is actually pushing against your bolt at this point okay and then of course now once it's lined up put it back in put it back in there so now the weapon is pretty much fully clean and that's how I clean my AR type weapons I'm done from the Ranger just the regular maintenance alright thanks for watching god bless you god bless america and God bless the troops amen
