hello everyone and welcome in chef Jason Morris Harbor Grill expert and I'm hanging out the backyard today at my local Ace Hardware Highlands Ranch Ace Hardware thank you guys for always letting me hang out and invade your space today we are talking about grill cleanliness on this edition of Ace this recipe that's right it's how to clean a Traeger grill we're gonna take this side happily use Traeger here and I'll show you how to get it back in pristine condition and keep it running long and new and perfect for ever and I'll tell you what I really think grilled cunningness is a lot like automobile care I think the better care and maintenance we give our automobiles the longer they are going to last and it's no different when it comes to our grills so today we're focusing on the Traeger we're on the Ironwood 885 and we're gonna show you how to get this thing back in great working condition alright let's talk a little bit about some of the tools we have today because there's some gear and gadgets we need when it comes to cleanliness and here's what we've got today we've got this cool grill mark brush great thing about this nice blue nylon bristles the good thing is these are gonna help you with a cold-weather cleaning right so if you're getting in there today like we are we're gonna give it a little clean that'll help you out on the cold weather clean got a warm grill that you want to brush these bristles work great these are woven into the metal to help them prevent them from shedding so another great brush as well hey let's say you need a little elbow grease on your great this saw this works good as well what else do we have well we've got our iron wood tray liner so kind of two schools of thought on that tray liners are fantastic they really are easy to take off throw away and be done I like to switch foil every single cook on my drip tray that means every cook I'm starting off with a pristine fresh new piece of liner or foil and that way I don't have to worry about any of that particulate that's stuck to here burning and really putting an off flavor into my grill so we either can use a little foil or convenience wise these things Rock we've got foil drip liners to help keep our grease bucket in top working order as well we've got absolutely this is the most fantastic grill cleaner I use it on every single thing we clean in our McCue trailer literally top-to-bottom this is great we're gonna use this on the outside of the trailer today we show how to clean the barrel get the display looking nice get the whole outside of the trailer wipe down the back the legs everything because hey we're cleaning from top to bottom we might as well keep this grill looking nice and fresh okay then this is the best grill cleaning tool ever known to man that we sell in the paint department that's right this is our six in one paint tool what I love about this look at this a little bit heavier duty a little bit harder scraper but the cool part is this Beach so we're gonna be able to take just feet and really scrape in all the nooks and crannies and get everything cleaned out there as well we've got some of our glove works gloves that's gonna help keep our hands clean and then we're using our two and a half gallon a little craftsman vacuum love this vacuum this is actually just for my grill cleaning I keep that in the barbecue trailer to keep all of our grills looking nice and clean so hey thanks for joining us we're going to get started on this we're gonna bring the camera back here we're going to hover right over the top of this and we're gonna show you how to take it apart and clean it from top to bottom and then rebuild it from bottom to top wipe the outside and get you back up and running thanks for joining us it is time to clean this grill first step we're going to do today is we're gonna empty the pellet hopper I'm gonna get all those pellets out of there because what I want to do is I want to get this vacuumed out as well I want to clean out any residual sawdust that's in there so here's what we do let's grab the pellet door right here we're gonna open this guy up the great thing about this is it has a magnet on it we're gonna open this up and now we're gonna empty all of our pellets into our ice bucket with these guys going here gets everything empty and if they get hung up a little bit no big deal just come back up here give them a little help but the ultimate goal like I said I want to get this cleaned out all the way through so that it's in there we'll head back down here alright now I'm gonna leave this open I'm not gonna do anything to it I'll leave it open because we're gonna blow some of the pellet dust through here get this cleaned out as well and get it vacuumed let's step one come on top you can tell we've been cooking on this a little bit so first things first what I'm gonna do I'm gonna take this brush and I'm gonna go through the top right here and get that clean the bowl is literally like I said we want to clean top to bottom so I want to clean take it apart scrape some more stuff let that fall in there and then vacuum the bottom and then rebuild it so and now what we'll do is we're gonna go ahead carefully and I say carefully let me move my towels here carefully because right here we've got that temperature probe so we want to make sure we're paying attention to where we take this upper shelf off and how we take it off so that we don't scrape into that now flip it over the bottom he comes to the top and I'm going to put it back in the grill because I want all of this to to uh basically drip down into the grill and be able to be cleaned out when we change the foil etc so now I've got this guy clean and we'll get this taken out of here hopefully there we go we'll get this out of here now we'll set this to the side as well so take our brush out we'll lift out a trigger great we'll do the same thing to this we'll give this guy turn that flipped over just a little bit like so and do the same process again getting everything we can leading off this grill you go side to side to get everything off that weekend now once this is all clean we'll go ahead and remove that as well okay we are inside the grill we're technically inside the grill but we're looking inside the grill see this a little bit of stuff back here I don't worry too much about that I just give it a light spray thank you sure I'm just taking whatever is loose and wants to come off I'm just helping it come off I'm not scraping it I'm leaving the majority of that seasoning on the grill to add some flavor so you make it straight we'll give this a scrape as well with our paint tool we'll get that let just cleaned off all that good stuff get this cleaned off go now again I'll take the side on this and get anything that's stuck there now the great thing like I said about this look at this nice heavy-duty scraper we're able to take everything the cool thing about that feat now can get into all these nooks and crannies everything's great and you got gloves on we just peel that little stuff off there get that clean and so look at that we now have it about where I like it if you want let's say you want to get in here and do a little further cleaning grab a towel and you can go through and you know wipe down a little bit more of this depending on what you prefer but like I said I like to leave some of this seasoning on here it is perfect won't harm anything it adds a lot of flavor and again watch out for that probe okay next we're going to go ahead and take the drip tray off we ran out of liners so we went with foil but what we're going to do is go ahead and peel Oh up here and get this guy back up and running that is the next step alright so Royals take it off here alright we'll get this all set and I just kind of roll it off helps keep all the particulates inside now what we'll do is I just take a look at what's on here right we'll get any excess foil that gets stuck down there off but overall I want to take a look at this and make sure if it needs a scrape we give it a scrape as well so we'll go ahead and scrape this off here before we put it back on but we always want to start fresh and nice and new okay now that we've cleaned out the trough that we got everything scraped out of there and pushed down into the bottom we used our tool and got down in there to all the different grades use that little peak like I said and again the nice thing is now this is clean there's no stalagtites or stalagmites stuck in here and it'll help everything flow out very very nicely now time to take out the upper heat deflector I want to check this I wiped it off want to check it just make sure everything is good so we take that off and we set that to the side now if for some reason you want to take off the lower heat shield there's a screw on the front and a screw in the back that you need to remove and then take that out I really don't get into that unless I've had something spill over or there's liquid or fat or something that has fallen down in here comes the loudest part of this video it's time to get in here in vacuum so we're gonna basically start top to bottom and then we're going to get into the fire pot as well our goal is to get as much of this ash out of here we're doing a little cleaning we might as well take our time and get it done right so [Music] like to get these back shelves as well all the front little nudges is to get anything extra out of here [Music] give it a tap not gonna need an app that need to be knocked off and then hold it down in there just for a minute just to get anything else out of that area as well all right [Music] and then make sure you get in the back here as well again I like to get a little tap just to make sure I got everything out nice strong vacuum so we don't have to really worry about that all right then I like to get the top here as well now we're going to go down in the fire pot and make sure we get everything cleaned out of the fire pot I like to start over with a brand new fresh clean fire pot and I actually would go into the auger just a bit just to get any little sawdust that may be floating around in there or hang it out but I take a quick little look at good make sure I've got everything I need to get out out all the nooks and crannies again look at that that is exactly what I'm looking for all right the cleaning time all the way down into the hopper door make sure I get everything clean and then I'm going right in here to I'm gonna take that little bit of pellets out but I'm also just kind of looking to see what I have in the bottom okay and I'm gonna show you that tip here in just a minute all right I got this all cleaned up get up here in my little probe tray and that is that now what I'm looking for we'll get that shut off what I'm looking for down here you can see let me see how we can see that there we go see what I'm looking for down there I'm trying to see you know how much sawdust is sitting down there and I really didn't push the vacuum down in too far because I wanted it to leave whatever was collecting at the bottom I always like to check and just see the kind of the health of the auger all right we give that guy clothes tighten it down while you're down there make sure it gets all nice and close nice and tight and that's it now we'll refill the pellet hopper next and get all of our pellets that we saved back into the hopper to reuse them as well not the grill taken apart it's time again like I said before let's check the health of the grill let's look at it and make sure everything is good so I like to go through here make sure those are nice and tight I just give stuff kind of a wiggle and make sure everything is in nice and tight like we like it once we verified that time to put the heat shield back on these two tabs go right into the back push it in just a little bit goes right into the front now we'll go ahead and get the drip tray add it back in there there's a couple tabs and a couple slots on the drip tray to make sure that gets lined up perfect little secret of mine when it comes to adding the foil liners actually go ahead and double them up and I'll put two Foyle liners on there why do I do that well I'll tell you what I like is being able to have an extra layer on here so when it comes time it's the next time I get ready to cook I can peel this off and I've got a clean one underneath there as well like I said before I always start every cook with a clean piece of foil that way whatever is stuck on the top from a particulate standpoint won't catch on fire and give us any weird funky funky smoke so quick tip on the grease bucket right I just leave my grease bucket alone it really doesn't get that dirty because I use these foil insert now what I also do is I leave the whole stack in here it comes in a five pack I'm gonna leave that entire stack in there and then that way it has one fills I take it out and throw it away and then when the next one fills I take it out throw away when I get down to two I know it's time to buy some more and be ready though you can see we've got blue cloudless air which worked great I've got like I said this is the most fantastic grill cleaner ever and then I've got a towel that I'm gonna use just to get up here I don't clean the lid unless there's something stuck to the lid like was stuck to the back of the grill I don't worry about the lid what I'm gonna do is careful does not spray my electronics I'm gonna spray the front of the grill down and just kind of let that soak I'm gonna spray my sideshow I'm gonna spray the top up here I want to get all this cleaned up and this is just a nice natural orange cleaner it does a fantastic job not imparting any flavor I don't use it to clean inside totally can but look at that look at it just eat that grease off and nice and clean right and then again start at the top and I work my way down so I'm cleaning anything that comes up here and work my way down this way as well this all cleaned up and again maintenance is everything I like this grill to last forever you spend a lot of money a lot of your hard-earned money on these grills we need to take care of them and you will have years and years ahead of you of some fantastic cooks with no problems now get up there then what I'll do here I don't worry about anything in the back because now I'm gonna spray the front and get the front cleaned as well and again my philosophy when it comes to cleaning I am top down pro 7 80 over here as well because really the only difference when it comes to cleaning on the Pro and the Ironwood is going to be this the stack or the chimney right so one of the things I'll do when it comes to cleaning the pro series is I just check for a collection of stuff in here and I'll wipe that out and then I'm checking inside the chimney to see if there's any build-up and then also on all of our grills that have a hanging grease bucket I'm gonna check in here to and make sure we don't have a build up collecting inside that runoff area or the entrance I guess to the drip bucket and then we'll go ahead once everything is verified nice and clean we'll get our chimney stack put back on and that's it and just like that done right a few simple tools the world's best grill cleaning new paint tool the six in one paint tool did a fantastic job I love these guys we've got tons of them the ever so awesome Trager spray and look at that I mean a little bit of elbow grease a little bit of effort these guys are back to being beautiful pristine and running at their peak performance I cleaned my grills about every 3 to 5 cooks and that really depends on how high of fat how high of sugar if I got a lot of stuff dripping off there but a good rule of thumb for you every three to five cooks take these guys apart really didn't take us long took us at maybe a total of 1012 minutes to get these grills back up and running and then fire them up when you're done and get after your next cook like I said before this tip sheet down below you can download this tip
