How To Change Lost UniFi Controller Password

[Music] [Applause] [Music] so what we're gonna do here is we're gonna go ahead and click on launch browser to manage the network okay as you can see we're at our unified controller and as we said before reason why we're doing this is because new client and this client does not know the password for us to go in and manage this controller so we're going to type in what we think it might be and we're gonna see we're getting nothing there that's wrong and I'm gonna try it again wrong okay so we're in trouble okay so we're going to do is we're gonna go ahead and do a reset of this password and we're actually going to use a program called Robo 3t to do this so we're going to want to keep the controller running in order to do this and what we're going to go ahead and do is we're gonna go to a website called Robo 3t and we're gonna go ahead and click on download and it's sufficient enough to go ahead and click on just the latest version Robo 3t we do not need this studio this was formerly Robo so we're gonna click that go ahead and enter in all the information that they're requesting there I've already done this so I'm not going to go ahead and do it but then click download for Windows as you can see you could do this on a Mac and Linux also I'm go ahead and close that and I'm gonna go and start the Robo 3t alright I'm gonna go and remove this other connection that I had already created so I'm going to hit remove and you will be starting off with a clean slate here so what we're going to want to do is go ahead and click on create and we're going to name the connection unify and we're gonna need to change the localhost port number for the localhost UniFi uses 2 7 1 1 7 ok we'll go ahead and save as you can see we have our connection in here now so you just need to simply go ahead and hit connect and you see that now our database is mounted here on the left side what we're going to do is go ahead and expand ace expand collections and we're going to see the admin table here go ahead and right click on admin and click on view document the key will be displayed in the center screen here we're going to go ahead and expand that and we can see that the name the username is admin capital a and X underscore shadow is our key all right so what we're gonna do here is we're gonna replace this key with a new key and what we're gonna have to do is we're going to need to generate that key from a website called quick hash so we're gonna go ahead and do that now so I'm gonna go to a website called quick hash dot-com and I spelled that wrong and what we're gonna want to do is scroll down to the bottom and click on the option here for hashing of sha - 512 3 dollar signs six dollar signs wouldn't click on that and the input data here is going to be the password that we want to create so I'm just gonna use any something random here so I'm just going to go and put in my password that I'd like to use in the controller okay and we do need to enter in a salt number here so what salt is is just typically salts a string that's attached to a password before it's cryptographically hashed so I'm just going to go ahead and enter in this salt here and I'll put a link to this down in the description so I've entered in nine ter one ez9 dollar sign i st6 some of its capitalized some of it is not and now you want to go ahead and hit generate over secure connection and what that's going to do is that's going to generate a new hash for us it'll put it right into the output data section so as you can see I have a new hash here I'm gonna go ahead and copy it and then I'm gonna go ahead and paste it into Robo 3t so in order to do that you're gonna have to click on this hash the existing hash you're gonna have to edit the document go ahead and erase everything between the quotation marks under X underscore shadow go ahead and paste in your new hash hit save it's now safe to go ahead and exit out of Robo 3t and we're going to go ahead and go back to our controller and we're going to try our new password and as you can see I'm in and that's it that's how you're going to go ahead and reset a lost password for your Unified controller [Music] [Applause] [Music]
