hey everybody I'm here today to show you how to your countertop so as you can see right here I am in my kitchen and there is a corner where the countertop meets the backsplash I will be caulking that corner and showing you how I do it and I'll take you for a quick tour of that corner right now of that edge I should say right now so you can see I'm going to be caulking all along here and then obviously not behind the stove because there's no countertop where the stove is then I'm going to start again right here make my way behind the sink to that corner and then all the way up until there so that is basically the area that I will be caulking so one thing that I must mention is the simple fact that I have already put some grout in the corner where the countertop meets the backsplash you can see that it has already been grouted so the cool thing about caulking a countertop is that you can do it whether you have put grout in that corner or not so I am talking the corner over top of the grout but even if you don't have any grout there you can still apply caulking on your countertop so the first thing that I will be doing is using this masking tape to mask off a line on the countertop and on the backsplash basically I will be masking off an area to apply the caulking in now I am doing this because I need a really really clean line because this is a kitchen and many people will will be looking at this caulking line because it is it is a kitchen it is an area of the house that is visited very frequently so I want to get the absolute cleanest possible line and to get the absolute absolute cleanest possible line I am definitely be going to be using masking tape so I'm going to go ahead and mask off the area and I will be right back all right so I have masked off the corner where the countertop meets the backsplash with masking tape and as you can see right here I have created two straight lines and left just a small space for the caulking in the corner right here and I'm just going to show you that I have done it throughout the entire area of where the countertop meets the backsplash now the next thing that I am going to do is I am going to get my caulking gun along with my tube of caulking ready I'm going to get everything prepared and I am also going to get an old Tupperware container and fill it with water so that I can smooth out the caulking once I have applied it so I'm going to get everything ready and I will be right back to show you how it's done okay so I have prepared my caulking gun my tube of caulking and my little container of water there and let's get right to it I'm going to show you how to do it so what you're going to want to do is just apply a little bit of caulking in that corner right there so I'm going to try and keep my hand out of the way but you're just going to want to get just a little bit of caulking not a lot just a little bit so just um feather the trigger of the caulking gun because you don't want to get a ton in the corner I'm just trying to there we go so once you have the caulking coming out just get a little bit in the corner just like that because when you use the water and your finger to smooth it out it will spread so you just want just a little bit in the corner and I am working my way down right now and I'm just going to turn the camera so you can continue to see what I'm doing just like that working my way across and the good thing is that if you need some more caulking in a certain area you can always add more but if you put too much than it is it is not it's not that it's hard to get rid of it's just that it's a little bit of it's a little bit of extra work so I need a stop right there for now I'm going to put my caulking gun where it's not going to ruin my countertop or anything like that and place it over here to the side now I am going to dip my finger in water just like this and with my wet finger I'm going to smooth the caulking that I have just applied just like that and the awesome thing is that because I put the masking tape down I'm going to have an amazingly clean line so I'm just going to continue like this I'm actually going to go around to the other side of the counter to continue just because it's hard for me to reach so I'm just going to dip my finger once again quickly to get some water on it and continue smoothing the line just like that and I'm going to continue by putting some more caulking in this corner and working my way around the kitchen but that is basically the process you just put down a little bit of caulking in that corner and then wet dip your finger in the water and use your wet finger to smooth out the caulking that you have put in that corner so I'm going to continue doing this for the entire area that I have taped off and I will be back to show you the next step you now that I have finished applying and smoothing out the caulking I am going to remove the tape while the caulking is still wet and that will give me the clean line that I'm looking for and now that I have removed the tape you can see the finished product and it looks absolutely fantastic it is a clean line of caulking where the countertop meets the backsplash and I'm just going to turn on the under cabinet lighting just to give you a better view so as you can see right there it looks great it really gives the area where the countertop meets the backsplash a nice finishing touch and it really it really looks fantastic and as you saw throughout this video it was actually really really easy to do and that's all I have for you today thanks for watching
