I always look at the thermometer 22 today a little bit warmer we've got a little cloud cover I'm gonna load a bail hay right now and go back up to some way see if I can lock those skiers in the krail hey check this out so yesterday I showed you a coyote running across the road did you see that pretty cool huh I've never seen those here before I don't know if you can see them man isn't isn't nature awesome all the things you see if you just kind of keep your eyes open a little bit hey so I fed these steers a bell hey they all came in out of this pasture and I'm gonna haul some of them off today so what I'm gonna try to do right now is sneak over to that gate and shut it before these cattle leave this Corral three of them are too smart but I still have enough steers in the corral we'll just shut this gate trap us some in here all right there we go they're locked in [Music] all right we'll just leave them in here and go home and get a trailer close about 10:00 I'm gonna take him home okay so yesterday I had a package that was sent to me it's a little bit like Christmas after the fact let's open it up see what's in here oh man I can tell already I'm gonna like this oh man right there check it out four boxes of plaster cast just kidding I don't get excited about patent plaster cast but I am glad to have it I've got to cast some steers horns this thing's a little cold-blooded but it ought to fire right up today maybe [Music] [Applause] [Music] how about that I made it and I didn't even get run over all right four-wheeler loaded truck picked up and headed home and off on another adventure let's go all right so that was a little bit of a weird feeling I loaded a bale of hay on the back of this four-wheeler and when I got down to where I was gonna get off the hay bale hay was on there right there right where I started from a fella hey didn't even make it out of the barn if we can get there with it this time made it alright I'm taking up my share of the road right here then load some cattle right here in Shum white just a few head hopefully a day like today will dry some of this up this barn has a roof edge right here the hangs out over our Corral's they get pretty muddy right here along this barn these cattle don't like coming up in here they'd be a little bit hard to do it by myself right huh I think they think they're getting away so they're going up in there pretty good so here's the steers that need to be casted once with twine tied on their heads [Music] [Music] see this one right here it's broken once see there so we'll take a piece of rebar we'll put a little band to it so that it fits on this head all right just like that so I got a bucket of warm water got my cast of material right here I always like to put on some latex gloves I'll dip this into the warm water and then just go to figure eight and on these forms to put this cast off here now the rebar it'll help to give a little stability to this horn that's broken on this steers right side so we'll get it right now we'll lay it in here just like that you can do this with cold water it's it's not very fun on a cold day even if even if you do have the gloves on oh yeah this one's casting up really nice too rolls usually we'll fix about any steer and you know as they as their horn starts to heal and their head starts to feel a little better no usually rub this cast off will smooth it all up right here he'll be ready for a cast signing party and I want to show you one other thing that I do these right here is just a regular pair of hedge loppers or hedge trimmers that you can get at your local hardware store I like to cut the tip of the horn off after I cast it if you can create a lit blood flow then it'll help to heal that broken horn will get both sides see if we hit blood here now let's see if we get blood on this side if we do that means that yep we're good that means that horn is still alive which is a good thing because it means in the long run that horn will heal up because that blood flow will create a healing process in that horn let's take a little closer look at it right here see there in fact it's even pulsing a little bit with his heartbeat this one over here is just spray and I this side I just cut off over here just so it would match that other horn so that steers done we'll turn him out I want to show you on this deer this deer shelled his horn the outer shell came off over on this side see it the only thing that he needs to have done to him now is I'm going to take those hedge trimmers and I'm gonna cut about that much of this horn off looks a little more even for the next time he's roped so I cut just a little bit off of that horn you can see it's bleeding just barely that's a good steer put a horn wrap on that and he'll be just fine alright so here's the last one this deer is a little bit Lively he's gonna be a little bit tough to try to catch with this head gate let's see if we do it or if I if I let him get by dang it how's afraid that was gonna happen he won't be as easy to bring back up alright here he is he's back he's still a little bit on the hook see if I can catch his head this time I got him okay so this little steers got a bigger problem than I originally anticipated that one's loose that one's loose so if we can get blood to flow out of those horns after we cast them and after we cut the tips of them off I think we can maybe save his horns we'll show you the finished product here in just a second okay hey I want to show you something remember how crazy this deer was I mean he's still not liking what we're doing but he has stood here calmly and patiently while I've applied to roles of casting material to his horns and I want to show you how how calm he stands there and it's because of that squeeze shoot he's just snugged up in that squeeze chute it's not hurting him by any means and I've got his head held it's not pinching him off you can see he's standing here breathing everything's fine but let me show you how calm he is as I put this next roller cast on so anyway there we go she's all fixed up that's why we use the squeeze chute one is to restrain the animal so that we can do what we need to on them and the other is it gives a little bit of a calming effect to them [Music] [Music]
