hi my name is Colby from starlingcardware.com and in this video I'm going to be showing you how to bypass the starlink router turning on bypass mode disables the Wi-Fi and routing functions of the starlink router allowing you to use your own router with starlink you'll need a few accessories to get started first you'll need the starlink ethernet adapter you can purchase it for 25 USD and the starlink shop at starlink.com and obviously you'll need your own router you can use any router with starlink but I've got a list of recommendations on our website that I'll link below if you're interested and finally make sure you have an extra ethernet cord laying around usually the router that you buy comes with one so now we're ready to begin the first thing you need to do is disconnect the starlink cable from the starlink router plug in the starlink ethernet adapter to the bottom of the starlink router where the cable used to be and now plug the starlink cable into the starlink ethernet adapter now we can hook up our aftermarket router plug one end of the ethernet cable into the starlink ethernet adapter and you'll plug the other end of the ethernet cable into the internet or Wan port on your aftermarket router so that's all there is to it as far as making the connections next we'll move on to setting up our aftermarket router you'll have to follow the instruction for your particular router but for me using this tp-link router it was pretty easy I just opened up the tp-link app and went through the configuration to set the network ID and password there's no special settings that you need to make in the router to be able to use it with Starling after you set up the router connect to the Wi-Fi network you just created and check to make sure you have internet connectivity before proceeding so now we're going to enable bypass mode so connect back to your starlink Wi-Fi and then open up the starlink app scroll down and tap on settings and then under Wi-Fi configuration tap advanced toggle bypass mode on and then click the save button it's going to ask you if you're sure that you want to bypass the router go ahead and click ok so every time I've done this the app gives me an error message but actually it's working and you can verify this by going to your Wi-Fi settings on your device and you should notice that you've become disconnected from your starlink Wi-Fi network and it's no longer available now connect back to your aftermarket router Wi-Fi network and just verify that you have internet connectivity if you do then you're done that's all there is to it your aftermarket router is now handling all the Wi-Fi and routing functions and the starlink router is just acting as a power supply if you ever need to turn off bypass mode and revert back to the original settings you need to perform a factory reset on the starlink router to do this unplug and replug the starlink router in six times in a row thank you for watching if you have any questions or feedback go ahead and leave them in the comments below be sure to also check out our website starlinkhardware.com for more tutorials like this one
