Social capital is the value derived from positive connections between people. It is the hidden value in your network. People connect with who you are, not what you do. Replace the question, "What do you do for a living?" with, "What are you most excited about right now?" Social capital is like a safety deposit box. If you want to take value, you have to first make a deposit. Bring value to your connections before you even think about asking anything in return. Knowing that there is a limit to how many relationships I can maintain made every and one of those seats in my circle a scarce commodity. Audit your network and make room for the people you're about to meet. Make connections. Bring them into your circle, shower them with value. Decide whether to keep them in your circle.
