I guess this is immune here today we're going to build rollaway nesting boxes you've heard me share before that I cannot use that type of nesting box in my mobile chicken coops and the egg Mobile's because the terrain is so rough and uneven that this angle in for the eggs to roll away gonna work and it's quite difficult and and expensive to build something where you can adjust that but now inside the stable it's harder to get clean eggs and I'm gonna build some rollaway nesting boxes and hope to get cleaner eggs and will make the egg harvest easier [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] these rollaway nesting boxes now are made with a 14 degree angle and you know I've set this before this channel is not there to reinvent everything but I look on the internet I do my research I find people very smart innovative people who have done things before and then I try to copy it and see if it works and make some adjustments that might work better for me so this design is taken from rich to a permaculture a farm that's about two hours north of us and you know we have taken this angle from their recommendations from a video and personally it seems way too steep for me I don't know if it just seems like that I mean it works for them but I'm just worried that these eggs will pick up speed and just bump into each other and crack here so I'm a bit worried there I think I'm gonna lower this a bit and put it to maybe about 12 degrees or something because 14 degrees it seems so steep that I didn't I don't even think the hens could sit there comfortably but maybe you know it's not hard for me to later on make this higher or lower but I will make it a little lower now and change the angle okay so I lowered it now just put this part back in and it still to me seems quite steep but I'm gonna leave it like this now and try it the whole design that they had at Ridgedale was that they were not individual nesting boxes but that they have this space here that's 1.2 meters wide where the chickens could just sit wherever they want it and I have observed the chickens you know they don't fight when there are nesting boxes they can sit there they like it darker and stuff which this will be but it should be okay it'll be interesting to observe that or if the chickens just want to sit all by themselves it works great for them so we'll just give it a try I think that it'll actually be much more space efficient in that way I think that it'll be it'll be better you know because I've had a hard time trying to find the right size nesting box because we have experimented with different sized birds you know even if you use hybrids the white ones are smaller than the brown ones and we've been working with different dual purpose braids and the Bielefeld the German breed they are huge they would need bigger nesting boxes than the press even that are very compact they're heavy but they're compact and so this is a this is exciting to me I'm looking forward to this now this is going to go here for the chickens to climb over and in there and the lid for this where I will pick the the eggs will be fastened to this it's important that it's high enough so the eggs can roll through there and not get stuck there and I calculated it to be 275 millimeters from the top that's where this needs to be so let's mark that up real quick so the first section here is pretty much done we're going to add roofs here to the side that we will be able to fold up so no chickens are able to go in here so we can lock it up at night we're going to put a lid on here that we can open to collect the eggs and we're also going to add plastic a plastic mat kind of like this fake grass stuff like a doormat and that's what they will sit on and my Ridge tell they clean these like maybe every week or so like pressure wash them so well see how all of that works and then here where the X roll I'll try to make it a little round so they slow down their next video I'll probably wrap these up or in one of the upcoming videos and I will put them into the chickens table and I'm very excited about this so thank you so much for watching I will see in the next video stay tuned and leave your comments below and hopefully I can answer some questions we have it in the comment section where we say that we only generally try to respond to comments in the first 24 hours even that is limited sometimes if you want to get in touch with us do not write a message on YouTube that just doesn't work for us somehow we've had a lot of trouble with that commons is not a good way either on youtube you please comment I will try to respond and answer and you can interact with lots of viewers but if you for sure want to get an answer from us email us at Swedish homestead at gmail.com or write us a message on facebook comments we don't check so often either we receive hundreds of messages and Commons and all of that every day so we're not able to do that so that's the best way to stay in touch subscribe to not miss anything and I'll see you
