hey guys in this video I'm going to be showing you how to build a carnivorous plant or garden and I'm here today with Karen the reason why we're building this bug Garden is because two weeks ago we went to that cannabis plant nursery that I showed you guys and Karen bought a whole bunch of really nice plants but they need to be repotted so what other way to repot them all than by putting them in a big pot garden Karen has already gone out and bought a pot she's bought some ornaments we have all the soil we have everything that we need so I guess the first step is for us to go and drill some holes in this spot Garden here we go masterpiece work of art so you guys may be wondering hey why do we have holes inside those plants it isn't the whole point of a bug Garden to have the pond sitting inside of something and all the water stays inside well that's what I thought about two nights ago until I watched this video by Jeff from Saturday in Northwest where he gave some reasons as to why it's actually not a good idea at all and the main reasons were that if you don't have water flowing through your pot you can have bacterial buildup mineral buildup and no oxygen can flow through the pots to the roots of the plants and all three of those things can kill your plants very very quickly in about one to two years if you guys get apart get a pot that has holes in it already and you can get a nice tray that fits you know just like that so you can water them during the Training Method it works out perfectly so the very first thing that we're going to do we're going to put some sphagen Moss in these holes so that water can still flow but soil can't fall through the holes you guys can use something like soil mesh or some people actually use kitchen towel I don't recommend kitchen towel but basically something that holds the soil in but still allows water to flow through so all you're going to do you can either push the sphagen Moss a little bit through your hole just like that what that does is that it does prevent water from moving as freely but what you could also do is that you can just put like a little blob or spag them over the holes like that and that will allow more water to flow through but a little bit of soil might come through so it's 100 your choice so what I've done over here just to show you guys what I was talking about is that we have these four holes plugged and all those four holes with just sang them resting on them I'm going to pour water onto the top and you guys can see how fast the water flows through so you guys can see the ones on the raft flow much faster than the ones on the left the ones on the left are just dripping that shows exactly what I mean these ones make a plug they restrict the flow although they do have some flow and those ones on the right that don't restrict the flow but you can get stuff falling through so that's all your choice guys make sure you choose one that you feel is best for you what we're gonna do what Karen wants to do for her Buck on is she wants to have these type of sphagnum moss retaining pads and then we'll start putting in a little bit of soil [Music] so Karen is now for the bottom of the pot so usually what people do with their their back on they'll put a layer of stone you can do that we have stone we're not going to do that anymore [Laughter] oh so yeah I have some old carnivorous plant soil it's this is sand and peat we have also peas and Perla that kind of mixed up earlier you guys can use whatever I want I just want to get rid of this so now we are going to be filling up the bottom of our pot and let me show you guys how to do it because I didn't think Karen was going to sprinkle it on like cheese take take a clump gently put it on top of your sphagnum Moss little pad and press that pad against the Spectrum Moss because if you sprinkle it or throw it in your pads will shift and then they won't be covering the hole anymore so just like that you kind of mold it like Play-Doh and do that for all of them and then you can sprinkle it on that cheese afterwards okay now that we're about halfway full with our little mini bug Garden here it is time for us to unpot the plants so let me change the camera around this is the first time Karen has ever owned carnivorous plants so it's her first career right and like I said in the past when you we want to do things a little bit different with our plants this time around so I use it yeah my hair's all messed up because it's very windy outside that's where we're in the kitchen I want to do things a little bit differently in the past I would usually just turn the pot over take all the dirt off and put it right in to this new pots but it that's very what's the word like dangerous for the football plants you could damage a lot of roots like that so what we should do is that especially with the purple hair because it has water in it you turn it upside down I'm just eager to do it you're gonna turn it upside down pour the liquid like outside down the drain anything and then you're gonna get it out of the pot and then you can rest the soil into a water bath and use the water to slowly get rid of all the extra soil all right this is probably the safest and best way that you can repots so poor yeah hold the plant and turn it upside down there you go from there to the black tray okay take the pot off and you're gonna very gently tease the soil away from the roots very very gently okay so you don't break any roots see the roots on the side here oh okay see the roots all coming down they've actually gone down and back up because there's not much soil in their pot so everywhere that there's no roots you can pull some away okay now we can swap it with the water and it puts it inside the water the root ball and you can keep separating in it's in the water and it helps get rid of the soil much easier can you shake it yeah like yeah like that yeah oh look at that yeah you see how it all just comes off so much easier and you don't end up damaging your roots yeah so we've finished cleaning up the plant and just look at how long and big those roots actually are see how long those roots are compared to that's the heart of the pot so now Karen's got this one out and she's going to choose where she wants to put it if you have your tall plants you want your tall plants Journey towards the back and you have the smaller ones in the front Karen's uh figured out she wants a day in the corner and yeah now it's just time to put it up if you're gonna have something in the in the corner like this guys what I would suggest you put soil you just build up some soil against the corner so there's not up against the plastic put the soil there then you put your plant in and then you can build the soil around the plant again foreign [Music] trap we'll show you how to do that too all right guys so we have done the other star signature and we're going to take you through the steps of venus fly traps this is Slack's Giant you can actually see us there it is it's pretty nice and the process guys it's it's uh pretty much the same so you're gonna squeeze the size of the pot and with the Venus fly trap if the traps close it doesn't matter don't squeeze it too high that's fine you just want to put your hand like a big cup over the plants yeah that's slowly fall into your hand yeah and there you go now Venus fly traps have much more bristle Roots so what I would do suggest to you guys and to you Karen you just put it directly into the into the water and let the water do its magic see this so Karen's got two little babies there so you see the venuslacha fruits they're what and most of the time times you will have a Venus flytrap that they naturally divide like this and it's very easy you just pull it apart just like Karen was doing and just watch their traps up at each other but the account has now three extra little plants and over here there's another two plants so Karen you can do that so you you can feel that there's a plant on the router plant to the left foreign [Music] traps uh with traps look different to the other slacks giant if you guys have any idea what this one is let us know in the comments because this one's traps are especially their difference so so this is the tray now with the different style senior Karen's got the biggest venus fly trap and it's going to follow pretty much the same technique as before should I start on this side yeah you can start there car's gonna start on that side you're gonna Fold It Up in the corner like a 90 degree wall and then push the dirt up against the roots again we'll show you [Music] just like Sarah senior Venus matchups have a direction in which their rhizome grows so this one is growing in that direction uh this one he has also going in that direction so over the years it will Trail this way and this one trading in all five directions too and this one will travel that way so the best would be for Karen to put it up against the corner like that and have it grow leftwards remember try keep your eyes um out of the ground if you bury the rhizome it can cause rot you want basically all the white of the Horizon to be underground and just where it starts turning green to be above ground and just like with the saracenia we're going to spray the water droplets over the roots so that it can get in between all those roots and that's pretty much it it is now the next day and Karen has finished putting up all her plants inside of her bug Garden and she's put a bit of decoration on it it honestly it blew my mind take a look at this [Music] I'm so impressed with how well she's done with this concerning it's her first time ever owning these plants and first time ever potting them up she's done a phenomenal job she's not finished yet she actually wants to put some of this laughs Magnum moss in between the rocks make it grow a bit more it's gonna look so damn good so if you guys want to see that in the future make sure you subscribe to the channel because we will do updates on all our cons and if you do like the end result of her butt garden please we would really appreciate it if you left the like on the channel it helps us a lot I have something very exciting to share with you guys this weekend we're going to Kew Gardens it is the biggest I think Greenhouse venue botanical gardens in England so if you want to see that video of us going to Kew Gardens looking at all the plants then all of the different greenhouses make sure you subscribe to the channel so you don't miss out on that video but until then I'll see you guys later
