How to Apply Foundation to an Older Face

hello and welcome as you can see I'm not quite ready for the Ritz today yet but I will I will get ready and join you shortly I'm back in my beauty salon preparing my face and today I want to talk to you all about foundations because it was a big request on Super Troopers some confusion about how to choose color and how to get the right product for your face when you're buying online so I'm I'm aiming to help you I might look a bit I might look a bit odd at the moment because I've done half of my face with foundation this half and I've left this half free and I've done that so you can get a direct comparison I'm going to come in closer so you can see that this side looks quite smooth and there are no blemishes evidently and no discoloration on this side you can see my a spot there and I've got another one there and I've got a few spots there and I've got generally if you look at around my eye area here this is much less dark and sort of under under eye circles effect and here than this eye so I am going to show you also how to apply concealer to get the finished effect that I've got on this side so this is the effect of an O 2 continuous cover foundation and Oh two concealer and on this side I have nothing apart from the smooth like silk face primer which I've applied first on top of my moisturizer popped a little bit of that on this again helps to smooth my skin and then it helps to hold the foundation that I have there have been applied on top so that's a gorgeous first step and I know that's a popular product with a lot of you so we also have a light look beauty balm I'm not going to talk an awful lot about that because I think I'll confuse you if you want something really lightweight and you usually use a tinted moisturizer then like that beauty balm is the best for you choose the lightest color that we have basically because it's got quite a lot of tint in it and I think the 0.5 or the o1 in beauty balm is going to be fine if you're indoors a lot at the time I can it's not very good I could these are the the beauty bombs so that's the one and we have a paler one than that and you can see that the three is actually for mixed-race skins and we also have a darker one now for for black skins so let me talk to you about the foundation because that's really what I want to demonstrate in this foundations are I think a godsend for older faces but they're the one product that most older women feel quite scared of because they're terrified of looking a bit like their mothers or grandmothers who used to look like they'd fallen in a flower bin because old-fashioned foundations were quite heavy and this awful word caked on really puts the the wind up a lot of what older women now if you have wrinkles what you don't want is product sitting in those wrinkles you want something that is light enough to cover but doesn't is not so heavy that it starts to gather and cake into any wrinkles that you've got so you know Dada this wonderful product continuous cover foundation modern foundations are absolutely brilliant because they do all the things that you want them to do cover smooth unify all of that stuff without looking heavy and Kate I get a lot of women who meet me in the flesh so to speak and they say oh my goodness you've got beautiful skin I actually haven't got beautiful skin as you can see here I've got quite blotchy skin I suffer from acne rosacea I get spots I've got a spot here at the moment you can't see it because I've got foundation and concealer on it I've got age spots etc so you you just need something to help your skin look its best and that's where this comes in now color wise and again I do hope I'm not going to confuse you that with this but I've done this and hope you can see that what we have is something that starts here at one and ends here at 3.5 and we say we've got one now one is good if you've got the sort of skin that's described as paler than average if you know you've got quite pale skin some people have you need the one the two which is what I'm wearing is I would say almost the universal color I would go so far as to say that 80% of the people that I do makeovers on the two will be perfect on them and how do I know because I put it on their jawline I do that and it kind of disappears in terms of matching this bit down onto the neck if you know that your skin has got a little bit of color in it perhaps you walk the dog every day perhaps you have what you could call as a gardening life you know you're outside a lot you're gonna be moving towards the 2.5 possibly the 3 you'll know how much time you spend that aside you'll know whether your skin is have a look at yourself naked the bits that you've got covered up is your face and neck significantly you know have more color than the naked bits and then you've got 3.5 I reckon 3.5 will only suit to those people who possibly mixed-race or you have a very very decided tan because you've been somewhere hot and you've actually changed color a lot or you've got that sort of skin that really takes a tan quickly and becomes quite brown so my advice to you is early on the side of caution here I would I would say stick with the to the 2.5 unless you're very pale which would mean the one now a little bit about the under tone color of us foundation now you may or may not know that there are very few skins white skins that need a pink toned foundation the sort of really pure porcelain skins almost that that can't take any yellow on their face they are quite rare now you may have skin like that and if so then our foundation probably won't suit you but for the vast majority of people and we are talking like the most they need something with a bit of yellow in it too actually if your cool toned like me to tone down that coolness and if your warm toned to bring that warmth to life so foundations most of them need to have a fair amount of yellow in them okay that's important to say so that's why we don't sell foundations for cool tones and foundations for warm tones although we separate all the other colors that we've got into warm or cool toned so I hope that explains it it's not you know there's no magic in this but I have always looked for a fair even I'm cool toned I've always looked for a foundation whenever I bought one in the past when I was struggling to find a good one and rarely achieved it for something that had a yellow base because I I knew that if I put a pinky tone foundation on I looked awful so let's apply it I've already got my primer on so I'm just gonna put one Square to this because I've done the other side I put two squirts if I was going to do my whole face so I've got about that much I'm going to apply it with a brush so and I'd always start in the middle and just literally you're just doing this remember I'm using my computer screen and quite figure out what I'm doing but as much as I can and then up here just that roll it round now having done that I do like just use the warmth of my fingers to Pat it in and make sure that it is properly combined into my skin so I'll do that and then then they can you just hang on my mirrors way over there I'm just going to get it yeah that's fine and a little tip for you I then take a clean big fat brush like this and I polish it I think this is polishing it it's just a finishing touch and I like it because I think it actually just makes it look slightly more professional I got that tip from a makeup artist and I've done it ever since and I just washed these brushes they smell divine we've got brilliant brush cleaner and it's it's a sort of vegan product it's really useful and the smell of it is divine and I've just washed my brushes and they all smell lovely so that's that done and I'm now going to complete that process by using concealer so what have I done here it is so I'm going to use the o2 concealer so that's that so the o2 base oh to concealer if you buy the o1 base by the o1 concealer and if you buy the o3 base so 2.50 three you probably need the oh three concealer but the 2.5 and the two you could probably get away the either the thriller the - sorry that's confusing is it okay start again if you buy though number one base get the number one concealer if you buy the two or the two point five get the two concealer if you buy the three or the 3.5 get the three concealer okay now I've got I need more help now so I'm going to do that bit that bit and that bit with concealer and as a settle it's really hard for me to do this in my computer screen so I'm going to just look at my mirror okay so I'm pushing with my concealer brush I'm pushing the concealer into that thing I find that this bit is very blue now and I'm going to put a little bit around the base of my nose has I've got these spots together there we go and now I'm going to put some on to my two age spots and maybe a little bit down on white chin okay now when I've done that I'm going to press this into my skin like that so I'm going to press the concealer in like that don't drag it just press it press it press it and having done that I'm going to do the last trick with this and again got this from a makeup artist and it really does help translucent powder are that's it or what do we call it perfect finish I think the coolest are using one of these little number seven brushes and I just now I just dot that concealed area and finish it set it with translucent powder and having done that I've pretty much finished my base so the base onto which I will now build some color some shape and just generally help myself to to look more fabulous and I showed you how to add color in my last video so obviously what I'm going to do now is to bring my whole face to life with my eyebrow shaping putting on some eye makeup I'm gonna put blusher on I'm going to put a highlighter on up here which will be beautiful as I move my face it will catch the light and then I'm gonna put some lipstick on and you know what I look like when I got it all on and considerably better than I do now but what I have done with my foundation is I have unified my skin tone I have covered discoloration and blemishes and I've helped my face to look smoother and I would suggest more youthful because actually I've got rid of that quite aging almost raw look that skin has when it hasn't got any foundation
