all right after finishing this video you will be able to animate your ready player me avatar using unity and mixamo and the beautiful part is all the tools that we are going to use are free there is no subscription nothing and it should not take you longer than about 20-25 minutes let's go this video is sponsored by ready player me ready player me is your go-to cross game avada platform for the metaverse so if you want to create amazing and good looking avatars for any vr ar application then check out the link in the description thank you ready player me for sponsoring this video you guys are awesome and really great support for this channel this video is the second part of our ready player me series in the first part we i talked about ready player me and i created or i showed how to create a avatar for free all of that stuff the creation process how to get it into unity so if you haven't watched the first one yet then check it out in this i would say in this corner over here and then come back to this one because um yeah they are based on each other so you don't want to miss the first one so now a quick overview of what we are going to do so in the first part we will go to mixamo.com and i will show you the setup there how to animate the character out of that stuff and then in the second part we will download the animated model basically get it into unity and then i show you how to get the importing settings and how to get your avatar with your beautiful animations super easy don't worry it will be quick and fast let's get started let's check back to our unity scene where we imported our avatar and yeah if you haven't watched the video again link will be over here but here we have it and if i hit play nothing really fancy i would say we have the animator that we can check out and see okay we have a idle animation over here and then once this one is finished it was it goes to walking and there we go and yeah that's a very fast walk or very short walk i would say but yeah and now in here we want to add a lot of fancy new animations that we can get from mixamo therefore let's check out mixamo so as you can see it's an adobe product but it's totally free to use and you see i'm signed in already but basically you can just create an account for free and then you see the login and now let me just browse animations and we have a bunch of animations and you can see i have the male animation target v2 already but no worries i will show you how to get it in here but basically and so so so cool we have like hundreds of hundreds of animations over here and we can take all of these and bring them into unity of course i'm gonna show it for with like one or two animations how to get it done but the process is exactly the same so we go to upload character and then you basically drag and drop that file that i just mentioned before let me just get it here from my other screen so here we have the um let's do the mail animation target v2 and the way that i just do it is i just go to show an explorer and now one second let me just put this one away and get this one over here and animation targets and male animation target v2 just drag it in here and there we go that's all we need and that's basically uh your model but they will of course add all the other things on top of it if you have your avatar you know that looks pretty good and it's such a cool animation already um super smooth and yeah and the old character will be um not saved blah blah blah i don't care right now and there we go yeah no the hardest part is deciding which animation to take because there are so so many let me see like 69 per page and how many we have like 26 pages that's a good amount of animations i would say so which one do we take for our little example i don't know maybe i mean i wish i could do it um maybe next time i will do it live and then you can just tell me all right i finally decided let's do the taunting i think this one looks pretty cool and again you can select from hundreds of animations let's just go to page four and there are so many cool animations that you can use um but yeah this one i like it so let me show you some of the settings that we have i think each animation has also different settings many of them are the same so overdrive is kind of like how extreme is it but let's start with the top so head turn i think most of them are kind of self-explanatory anyways that's how much your head was going to turn exactly and yeah you can fine-tune it over here and then export it into unity let me just show you so now he's barely moving his head and how much is he leaning in now let me see yeah i think that is kind of obvious to see and then i think this those two are or those three are in all animations overdraft is kind of like the speed and how extreme is the animation so you see like it's a bit faster it's a bit more energy and the character arm space is here how are the arms stretching and stuff like this ah there we go and now arm space just to show it to you once yeah you see there's the how far are the arms and that's basically available in any animation if you're too close you have to make sure that you don't get any weird glitches but i think um that's nice nice and then you can also trim the animation i think this one is good now if you want to download it you go to download and then import here select the fbx for unity format and that helps a lot with the animations and stuff like this so you want to make your life easy so like this one and then with skin and these two can stay the same or this one also then you download it and then yeah you will have it in your donald's folder downloading assets there we go and as always i see you in unity all right once in unity we want to take our fbx file and just drag it in here there we go and now we see we have our mail animation target let me just deactivate this one uh quick tip the nice shortcut that i just used is alt shift a so if you wanna ever activate or deactivate the game object super fast that's the way to do it and then mail animation target let me just show it to you one time and there we go [Music] it won't have any animations yet because it just straight came from mixamo so there is no animator nothing like this on this object now so yeah there's obviously no animation really and what i want to do is we want to get the animation that this object contains which is in here so let me just show it to you and there we go there's the animation we just created we want to get this one to our avatar and you do this by getting this one first into the same folder like the other animations and don't worry i will put a link to the documentation in the description below so easy peasy um therefore you go to the same folder basically plugins with 3d ready player me animations then resource animation and in my case mail so i want to drag it in here and now we see we have these three animations now we have the walking with the idle and now the taunt as well and in order to get our animation working we need to do some settings first so let me just make it a little bit bigger and now we see okay if we for example go to the model and we select um both we see there are some differences and we want to match them basically taunt we want to um enable read and write and disable the convert units hit apply and now we see both are the same and let's go back to the rig and there's some error don't worry you can as far so you can just hit update if there is no source you can select the mail animation target v2 avatar that you have over here and then hit apply and it's fixed [Music] the next one is animation and now we want to do some of the animations as well um let me just see one second just see if everything is um the same over here that is correct and then we have the rig just double check oh i didn't even do anything right now yeah that is also fine and now let's check the animation over here let me just make it a bit smaller and there we go and now if we go to taunt we see there is this difference over here that we have to do these check marks and one two three and four uh loop time yeah it's um looping the animations and then we want to set it also the same likely walking which is the original for the root transformation and here we have the feed for the position on the y and then we want to have the original on the x and z axis hit apply double check if things are matching obviously here the name is going to be different over here and then the duration of the animation and stuff like this but the main settings are working fine wonderful so the last thing we have to do is to enable the animation now in our animator and a quick disclaimer we in this video i won't talk about um how animations work all of that stuff that would be way too long for this video but of course as you know me i have a video dedicated that you can check out over here and it's a little bit older but um good but old or old but good i would say and that explains you everything that you need to know about animations but yeah now let's move on again we'll be linked over here so check it out if you don't know how animations work but basically what we have to do is now we have our idle animation the walk animation and we can duplicate it and now we can just call it taunt and now we want to also use the taunt animation over here which is over here there we go and let me just yeah it's at the mail folder over here and then we can get rid of these two transitions just do one like this and let's just keep it like this so we can um see it for a longer time it works out fine and now i don't speed is one i think yeah in theory that should be working out now let me um enable it again and now if i didn't mess up it should be working out so animator let's wait a couple of seconds until he's um done being idle and oh yeah nice nice ah okay i was wondering why he's like in this fighting position but of course that's the animation so and now we can basically go back to walk setting and trans uh setting a what is it called again i'm so bad transition of course and then transition back to this one do all the fancy booleans that we can select here again if you don't know it then there's the video over there and let me just finish it there we go now he starts walking and then he's idle again i mean in real time in real case you would not have these looping around you would probably have some conditions when to do what kind of animation but now you know how to do it super simple um let me just recap basically first upload your base model which is the male or female model but this one dv2 into mixer more i mean the very first thing is create an example account of course then upload it select your animation then download the animation and the important part really is to have the correct import settings that you can basically just mail that you can mix and match with these kind of things and then you should be good to go all right that's it for this video let me know what you want to see next from ready player me any tutorials and cool ideas we are having some cool things in our mind already and i would really appreciate if we leave a like comment below say something whatever it is helps algorithm you know it already and thank you so much for listening as always i see you in the next one
