hello there MoonPie ever stopped to think about what makes your favorite game so addictive it's not just about cool graphics or epic story lines although those help no doubt it's all about the game design right behind every killer game there's a team of game designers working hard to give us best experience in the game they're the ones who tweak every little detail from the way your character moves to how the levels are laid out and let me tell you it's no easy feet so this is the third video in a series of how to become a game designer and it will hopefully be a comprehensive guide for you on how to analyze games as a game designer analizing games isn't just for game devs though we can all benefit from taking a closer look at our favorite games it helps us appreciate the craft that goes into making them and gives us a deeper understanding of what makes a game fun or frustrating depending on how you look at it so today's topic is how to analyze games and let me tell you I myself have had problems in my career with this topic because it can be quite confusing because understanding the complex mechanisms of games doesn't mean that you just playing cool games memorizing features from them and using them in your game all right although this can be useful with a certain approach so you probably have a question so to analyze a game we need to break it down into its game design components and understand which ones are more important it's like the distribution of points in an RPG you only have have 10 points and you need to distribute them as efficiently as possible between the character's characteristics depending on which character class it is we wouldn't want to spend all our points on intelligence for a warrior character because this class doesn't need this parameter right it's the same with game design principles if you're making a racing game you don't need to spend money on an interesting story or characters you can give a about the narrative racing isn't about it it's about speed and Sensations about detailed cars Roar and break into parts in a collision therefore it would be more logical to spend most of the resources on gameplay mechanics to make the controls feel comfortable and enjoyable to polish this side of the game as much as possible also on sound to improve [Music] immersion because in a game like this the player wants to feel that they're driving a car and the more senses we can engage the better you would probably want to add points to the visual component because the graphics of competitors on the market are very very very cool cool and elaborate at the same time unlike an open world RPG when creating a racing game you don't need to spend so many resources on level design as it will most likely be a few maps with a road and not a whole giant world with Secrets uh characters and little things that help to reveal the history of this world so basically we have already understood how the analysis works we need to take a game play it or even just watch a gameplay video and determine which parts are important for this particular game each genre has principles that developers try to pay as much attention to as possible and those that are less important now remember I said that I have two simple games for you to practice these games will help you better understand what analysis is and how it is done but this is important before you start running you must first learn to walk so don't rush out and take apart some balers Gate 3 okay we should start with something very simple so here's the task try to analyze games like rock paper scissors hide and seek or snake take one of them and identify the most important game design principles for this game if you find two or three it's already good if you can't find any don't be upset you probably just haven't watched my first video in the series how to become a game designer or watched but didn't read the books I recommended I don't blame you I'm a lazy ARS too if you have some other problems with that write a comment maybe I can help or people on the com comments would give you advice and if you're good at it and you were able to easily disassemble the game from the list then you can try to analyze all the games on this list to make it easier let's take a game like tic-tac-toe as an example so I can highlight such important aspects of this game as Simplicity and accessibility this game is quite simple and accessible you can't say it better it is easy to understand the rules and play almost anywhere and with anyone literally even children can play it balance this game like all competitive games should be equally fair to both sides I think it's clear here if the crosses had a big Advantage because they can put two crosses at once then what would be the point of playing for zeros right sociality people play against each other usually friends or acquaintances so these aspects are the most important for this game in my opinion can you think of any others write your answers in the comments it would be interesting to see also did you notice that I said that balance is an important part of any competitive game it's good if you noticed so if we're making a snake game for example balance may not be so important don't get me wrong balance is one of the main principles of game design and it is always important in every game the game should be fair and engaging for the player but if we're making an online snake game where players compete against each other balance becomes even more important part of the game okay when we're done with that we can move on to the next level but this game will be much more complicated as I said we have have a limited number of points that we need to distribute correctly When developing the game so I propose the following experiment let's say you have $1 million and you need to hire a team of Specialists to develop your own game I suggest that you come up with your game identify the most important aspects of it and try to distribute the money among the Specialists you need let's say the development period is 3 months and the employees should be paid every month but don't forget that you also need HR to find all these people pm to keep track of the processes and deadlines and testers don't forget to take them into account this will help you to look at the industry from a business perspective and not from the perspective of an ordinary user this way you will better understand how and where to spend resources to make a really good game and in general how decisions are made regarding ideas features and other things from the perspective of a game designer or in this case a CEO of a company because there are no such good investors who are ready to pay you a lot of money for 10 years so that you can make a super racing RPG shooter with Rog likee elements in 10 different genres for the player to choose from that will be equally good in all aspects okay hope this helps you with your game design Origins it would be great to see your likes under the video if you liked it I have a small Channel and this is very important for growth so do it if you feel so called and also in no case do not subscribe to the channel if you were not interested subscribe if you are and don't forget about the game design trick at the end of the video that's all see you in new videos kiss everyone on the lips damn some of you have very dry lips please remember to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated have a great day [Music] [Applause] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music]
