in this video i'll show you how to add or embed soft subtitles to a video using lossless cut welcome to this video my name is david and i hope you're well wherever you are around the world there are three things you'll need you'll need lossless cut and it's available for windows mac and linux you'll need the video that you want to embed the soft subtitles to and then you'll need the subtitle file that you want to embed now it's pretty simple let's just fire up a lossless cut we'll just open it up and i'm on windows therefore i'm using lossless card for windows but if you'd like to see how you can download lossless card there's a tutorial about that if you'd like to buy it there's also an option for that so here we are inside lossless cut and all we need to do is pretty simple we'll need to just drag and drop our video file inside there and it's added onto this particular platform now when we look on our top left you'll see tracks too if you click on that you'll see uh the different things where the video is located it's an mp4 it has a video and an audio stream so there's an option now to include more tracks so i can just click on this and navigate to the folder with the subtitle file i want to add as a soft subtitle now this is the same subtitle but this is in italian portuguese and english let's go with the english version and click on open now this file will be included once we export our video but for clarity of this particular video a soft subtitle is a subtitle that you can turn on or off in the video stream more or less like how you watch uh maybe youtube videos with captions either automatic or manually added by the creator so if i play this video just double click pause a little bit it's going to play in vlc right click if i i look at the subtitle section you can add a subtitle but this particular subtract or the subtitle track doesn't have any subtitle track added or embedded to it now uh that's one thing so we can just close that out because i want you to see the results of what will happen once we embed our soft subtitle using lossless cut so here we are we can just move up from this section and then go to export just click on export and then the export options will be available output container format you can either go for mp4 or the different formats that you want right here i'll keep mp4 keep tracks the three tracks so i have three tracks available this one's this one's that's what i want to keep next up save output to path so the save location and then output names you can change this if you want but i just wanted to have this name and extensions advanced options edc i won't change anything here i'll just click on export once i do that it's done it's lossless now it's no re-encoding of the video and now we have a new video here if i just double click on this video and pause it right click subtitle we now have the subtract with a new subtitle track it is disabled at the time of uh initially but if you click on track then the subtitle will be embedded if i play the video with the recent now the subtitle will play along with the video if i uh disable the subtitle it disappears update on the youtube interface and it doesn't play that is what a soft subtitle is and that is how you can add or embed a soft subtitle to a video now the issue i've noticed in lossless cut is that you cannot select the subtitle to be default that is embedded by default number two if you want to add more than one subtitle you cannot just drag and drop them inside here so if i say we have two other subtitles uh the italian and the portuguese if i wanted to add this i'll just include more tracks let's say we click on these two you cannot select both of them at once you have to upload one subtitle file uh and then add the rest so click on that open and then include more tracks just click on open and i believe this is something that they'll probably fix in the future but if you're satisfied with that then you can now embed those three click on export the only thing will change here is we can just change something here uh cut from just remove probably cut from uh so if you know what you're doing here then you can just do that remove the dollar sign there so uh depends on if you know what you're doing and then if you're satisfied just do that and then click on export and there we go if you go back to a folder there's a new file here just double click on it or we can just close this one out first double click on this one if you right click subtitle subtract we now have three tracks it would be awesome if you could also be able to select the language now alternatively to using lossless cut to embed soft subtitles to your video you can use a tool called mkv toolnix and i do have tutorials about that on the channel and with mkv toolnix it allows you to select the language uh to select uh what track you want to be the default track it's really awesome but i hope that lossless cut will do that in future but it's one of the best free encoding video applications you can use it to cut your videos etc without re-encoding so that is how you can add or embed a soft subtitle or multiple subtitles to a video using lossless cut without re-encoding thanks for watching until next time stay safe and never stop learning
