welcome to the nightclub guys it's your host the night wrencher my last welding video got a couple negative comments saying that uh flux core was an inferior process that it comes out messy it doesn't look good uh it doesn't penetrate it's not strong so let's go ahead and do this test i have these two pieces of 16 gauge square tube i believe it's either i think i want to say it's like half inch or 5 8 or it's not a very big material you can see it it's probably about the thickness of my finger you guys can see the thickness of the metal right there it's not very thick it's pretty standard stuff when you use it to make gates and stuff it's a pretty common size so we're going to do a little test with this we're going to go ahead and just lay these down right here and i'm just gonna make a quick bead i'm not gonna make it look fancy or anything i'm just gonna go ahead and just zap it on and pick it up and throw it under this engine hoist and we're going to see if we can lift it up with just one bead on one side i'm not even going to bother welding it all the way around and i'm not going to weld it in opposite directions like you normally would just one and we're going to apply the force on the side without the weld to see if i could make the weld fail by over stretching it giving it too much force that has to fight against so if flux core is really an inferior process it should break almost instantly it should not be able to lift up probably close to 60 pounds i want to say 60 pounds of force i don't have any kind of scale on it obviously but i'm going to assume it's like 60 pounds of force and i'm going to try to pick it up and if the bead passes the test it means that the process is not inferior what's inferior is probably the person welding it i had a lot of questions of what welder i was using and what settings i was using the reason i didn't mention them in my last video was because i didn't want people to focus too much on the equipment and what settings they need to be at that as long as they can get a good hand control they were able to get decent results the welder that we're going to be using today is the omnipro 220 i'm not using 220 i'm using the 110 function so it's actually just on a regular plug it's on a generator just a regular uh 3 500 watt generator and i'm just in my regular barn uh no fancy shop or anything so this is just a novice welder doing novice things to see if i can actually tack this metal together and apply any kind of lifting force on this the settings that i'm using on the welder are 122 inches per minute at 16.5 volts for a lot of starters beginners that doesn't really mean anything basically just hot enough so that it almost melts through the metal and slow enough so it doesn't poke holes and it doesn't jump back at you while you're trying to weld [Music] okay so it's not an amazing weld but it is a nice little bead nothing on this side nothing on that side nothing on that side just on this side so we're gonna go ahead and we're gonna stick it on the leg of that engine hoist and i'm going to go ahead and put the pressure right on this weld this side is going to be facing up and we're going to try to apply pressure to it uh like this okay so let's try it out [Music] let's go ahead and check it out no breaks no tears still good to go if i obviously bend it the opposite direction yeah it's gonna bend but that's to be expected because the welds aren't designed to make the metal invincible they're designed to make the metal stick and if it's applying force in the opposite direction if this little bead would have broken it would have meant either my welding was inferior or the metal wasn't thick enough where i'm using the wrong settings but in this case even though it's not the nicest looking bead uh it actually came out really messy i didn't try to make it look good i just tried to make it work and it ended up working for those of you not aware flux core is a process that is widely used in the professional scene pipe welders use it fabricators use it people in generic industrial settings use it wherever you have to weld upside down flux core works really well whenever you have the world sideways flux core works really well and if you need something cheap strong affordable and effective you're going to go ahead and gravitate toward flux core if you guys can master welding flux core and don't mind doing a little bit of cleanup this is a excellent process for anybody so that about does it i'll see you guys on the next one night wrencher out
