[Music] so yesterday the car for the brand new stock car all-star racing series the superstar racing experience was unveiled and if you haven't seen my video on it yesterday you totally should but there's a point that i want to touch on that i touched on yesterday and i'd really like to expand on and that is the fact that the srx series almost made a major mistake when in the design process a mistake that was thankfully avoided thanks to an open-minded ray evernham who saw and reacted to fan feedback before it was too late now the srx series if you don't know was formed up quite recently by ray evernham of course tony stewart former nascar cup series champion and former nascar ceo george pine and that was announced on july 13th of 2020 now the series concept is a stock car based all-star series similar to the now defunct iraq series though this series in particular will be taking place exclusively on short ovals by both of the pavement and dirt variety and utilizing drivers that are mostly retired rather than modern day stars and because the unique demands and challenges such a series would present speculation was rampant on what sort of a car would it take to live up to the challenge of this series now on july 28th we started to get some answers the srx twitter account posted a teaser of a concept drawn up by ray evernham himself who was working on the car but despite only showing the front bumper of the race car to the public there was immediate backlash the point of issue a splitter now if you're outside of the stock car racing circles you might not understand what the issue is when we bring up the dreaded word splitter the infamous splitter was introduced into the nascar series with the car of tomorrow in 2007 and is one of several aerodynamic components that fans drivers and media members alike have pretty much blamed on a disappointing on-track product in recent times the splitter remains in each nascar cup and xfinity card to this day and we're reminded of its presence each time one of them snags the infield grass and turns an otherwise harmless slide into a race ending destructive crash the original post was made at 11 28 eastern time in the morning and by 6 24 pm of that day ray evernham told the bird app that the bird app had won the splitter was gone and by the next afternoon a brand new nose had been designed for the srx car and if you ask most stock car fans disaster was avoided ray evernham finalized the concept including a huge super bird style rear wing and other people have pointed out in the comments the similarities to gto cars of the 1990s like the f40 and the nissan z but here's rey's own personal explanation of the concept and i think it's really interesting to listen to because of course this is rey's concept and this is what he thinks it will bring to the srx series we wanted a car that was different we wanted a car that was special this car is going to run on paved a half mile type ovals it's going to run on dirt uh half mile type ovals it's going to um be able to turn right left shift steer break like on road courses but again we wanted something that was signature to srx so you see the slope nose with the louvers and kind of the flat nose that's when we run the dirt that'll keep the dirt um from packing in the front of the car it'll also allow some aerodynamics and the louvers and that x is the grill opening you know for srx and then as you look down the side of the car i think it's pretty stylish the exhaust will be coming out the side rather than underneath and then the car will be kind of around we're not going to focus on aerodynamics that the car is going to be dependent on driver skill how well he turns the steering wheel steps on the gas steps on the brake and and does his job so it'll be a car that will rely on mechanical grip and the wing on the back is i've always loved the uh dodge daytonas from the 1969s and 70s and super birds and the ferrari f40s and that wing is is uh is really about styling now since then srx has contracted fury race cars a company which builds super late model cars to construct the chassis for this series now the completed chassis that was revealed to the public yesterday is the only one of its kind and the first race is scheduled for june so they've got a lot of work ahead of them to have a full field for the first race but not only was the chassis unveiled yesterday but it had its first shakedown runs and believe it or not the driver was racing legend ken schrader really cool and i have to say just based on this alone it's encouraging despite the amount of work still to go before the opening race in june that they're willing to listen to fan feedback that may really be an ace in our srx and their pocket versus say well let's just say it a lot of people are drawing the nascar comparison i drew it in some ways yesterday one thing that i think nascar's criticized quite a bit for and really a lot of racing series are is perhaps they don't listen to their fans quite as much it seems like this is a series that's going to be very engaged with the fans whether that's a good or a bad thing that's going to be what we'll find out in the future so what do you think was this the right move to make axing the splitter do you think it should have been kept that would be an interesting discussion if anybody agrees with that but let me know down in the comments as well as any other thoughts you have about the new srx series thank you guys so much for watching this has been david land on youtube and we'll see you in the next video [Music] you
