I'm [Music] scared why are they all looking at me never lose motivation let me share with you three challenges that I use to keep my modu up usually during the summer vacation period vacation I sound like I'm still at school I'm nearly retired you can use one or all three of these challenges trust me I've used them for years they're great this is one of my favorite little sections where I live I love going under this what's your favorite bit on your local ride as nice as that okay challenge number one for me is every summer period I look at what I did last year in terms of distance and altitude and I'm going to beat it I'm going to go further and I'm going to go higher now I've been cycling for x amount of years so obviously I've done very very long rides I check out what sort of shape I'm in but I don't give a and I ask you to do the same I mean it doesn't matter you go further than you went last year and go higher than you went last year set yourself that challenge work it around your schedule work it around the weather possibly but go for it absolutely go for it and really dial into the motivational self-gratification Kudos that you give yourself for that type of ride so that's me in a nutshell oh by the way because I'm 53 on my birthday I'll ride 53 mil or it's close to unless my family throw a surprise party for me you never know you do the same but if you're only 21 then yeah set yourself a bigger challenge so distance and altitude boom what's mine for this year Well distance 200 km altitude 20,000 ft yes or even higher okay I'm going downhill now so you might not hear me very well I used to play on this road when I was 10 years old oh look at that don't know if you can see that I just disrupted a pheasant is running across the field there he goes come back you're my dinner joking okay number two is something that I do every week as often as I can and I usually save it for recovery ride Zone 2 ride and it's what I call the ride into the unknown The Adventure ride I choose a road that I've not been on or maybe one that I've not been on in a very long time and I go exploring here look can you see at the bottom of the corner there there is actually a little hidden Road I'm going to go along it follow that tree line because remember we love cycling because we are adventurous we don't really need to pick up our motivation I'm not going to give you any oh you must have goals every single day you know that we're not dialing into that high level at the moment we're cycling because we choose to we're cycling because we can so that new road that Adventure can sometimes reveal a new landscape and that's why you've got the bloody bike in the first place so you can go for those Adventures so never lose focus on that don't be chasing metrics all week long find that new road I don't give a if you get lost that's the fun of it use the sun use the Stars use the clouds use the wind direction get yourself back you'll find your way home no problems it's only one road this is me on my mystery Road I'm on peer tree bridge I haven't been here actually since I was about 10 or 11 years old this is the river dun okay this is the river that goes all the way into air in alleway where Robert buns wrote the pie of poetry Tam a Shanter where Tam got pissed up down the pub went home kidded on well thought he saw some wit chees and he got chased over the Brigadoon and got the tail pulled off his horse well that was the story he told his misses when he got home but I think she gave him a black eye and told him he was a piss head but wow look I'm the only person in the world around here find your mystery road every every week try and challenge yourself you can do it and it just gives you that extra little bit of self-gratification and remind you why the hell you cycle you're not chasing power all the time you're not chasing Fitness you are fit okay and you've got motivation and if you've lost it you're fatigued for God's sake what are you doing have a little rest let's see if we can see some salmon walk nice monster no he's further Upstream yes it suddenly got very dark on my mystery Road and there was a sign back there saying caution private road I love that I shouldn't be here look scalon Castle sounds like a Goosebumps story holy maybe it's private because I'm bouncing up and down like I'm on a bouncy castle all these challenges I'm going through I'm really only just scratching the surface remember you can join me on Thursday for a live class where I go through fundamentals about developing your training and making yourself bulletproof just like me and hundreds of others links in the description okay Challenge number three is fun it takes me back to being a kid and it will do you I can do this every day almost every week but I really enjoy doing it in the summer and I have lots of these looks s and I call them my Freewheel challenge just have a look at this one hopefully the camera picks up the road but if you look around the corner you'll see the road goes up so I Freewheel down this one and I see how far I can get up yes I even make a mark and see if I can beat it now I've got about 10 of these in my Loops especially on my recovery days or no matter what I challenge myself sometimes I'll start from a dead start sometimes I'll do a one pedal push it doesn't really matter sometimes I'm doing an actual movement and I'll hit a post and see how hard I can go and then Freewheel yes it's great fun it reminds me of being a kid it reminds me that you just turn off the metrics you have fun on your bike but it gets really super sophisticated I get into really good AO positions I get very competitive especially if I do it in a group with others cuz everybody will look at me and say skinny little I'll beat him cuzz got a big fat belly well it doesn't always work that way but I do enjoy it and it reminds you that you shouldn't be chasing metrics like power all the time because you're on your bike because you can because you've got good health so enjoy it and have fun if you lose the fun then you just become a fanny remember those days when you're doing a zone two but you're actually doing a zone three and then when you're trying to do a zone five but you're actually tired and you can only do Zone 3 yeah you're a Zone 3 Fanny get out and be an AO Fanny be a free whe Fanny hold up the traffic while you're free wheeling okay folks that's three great little tricks to help you stay motivated I'm doing them why don't you do them you can leave a comment or maybe you're already in my communities and you can leave a comment there what's your Longest Ride what's your highest ride there's a video coming up whereby you can learn how to get as motivated as me and become bulletproof you enjoy take care
