okay so here at the trinity site in new mexico on the white sands missile ranch that's where the site's located and it's only open twice a year i'll have those dates somewhere around here but i know i'm here april 2nd which is the first saturday of april that's usually when they do it for the springtime open house but yeah this is actually my third time being here and uh it's always an experience i think everyone should uh check it out when they have the time or the inclination it's uh pretty cool being on this site it's a pretty big piece of history but anyway let's get out there let's check out this place you want to take a picture [Laughter] oh remember that man it's gonna make you famous make you famous [Music] gotcha [Music] [Music] [Music] done [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so [Applause] all right so i'm out here at the trinity site entrance this is the entrance to the gated area over here is where everyone goes inside to see the obelisk where they actually detonated the first atomic bomb uh 77 almost 77 years ago it's actually 76 years ago the 77th anniversary is coming up uh this july but yeah let's go inside and check it out i have my guy counter running and it's getting like 180 190 counts per minute i was looking down the ground here i can actually see some trinitate and so this is what it looks like this little green rock right here see how radioactive it is ah not too bad it's funny because people are waiting in line to see trinity when they could just look down on the ground and find it here pretty hilarious but i guess if you don't know what you're looking for it's kind of hard to see it just remember the removal of trying to tie is illegal but it's hard to know if it's legit yeah i know i have no information i've never tried to buy it online i know it's a little rough because you don't know if it's like genuine trinity well it's going to have platonium and uranium in it correct no the device here was a plutonium okay there wasn't any uranium in it as it you know fission there were small small very small quantities of plutonium that weren't consumed didn't fission by now about all the tier is very small amounts of european 152 154 which have eight and thirteen year half-lives and then season 137 which has a 30-year half-life is is the bulk of the activity so what would be the reading on it right now what's the rule can we take these no okay cool it's pretty low thank you jesus that's real though yeah these were way hotter these radium dials yeah really oh blow your socks off you can try these so for example let's see so in other words you can you gotta told uranium mines just pick stuff up off the ground this is what you got a gamma yeah oh yeah the red eye okay yeah i got the radii b20 yeah but this is a real red eye no i just do like youtube videos and stuff i gotta explore old uranium mines yeah radioactive antiques charlie's an hp and i'm an rct so we're just like this is a bad app for us we're geeking out like on the hallway we've been kind of like moving on it oh we're calling him you guys are oh yeah so that's awesome wow that's two people were actually from los alamos that's kind of strange but pretty cool never know who you'll run into out here all right let's go to the obelisk [Music] oh you so right here at this location i'm getting around 325 counts per minute so isn't too bad it's about 10 times above background radiation so uh not too bad if you're just visiting the site [Music] [Music] i know i mean i've been in uranium mines they're a lot more radioactive than this place but it's a different type of isotope that's here because here there's cesium-137 it's one of the longest uh fission products that a nuclear bomb is going to produce that'll still be iran still be around today 76 years after this bomb detonated so that's pretty cool being out here though i mean a lot of people are like well what are you going to see out here well it's more just of a historical spot they do put up photos along the gate here to kind of show people like what the site looked like right after the blast and yeah it's a pretty cool place though you know if you're into nuclear science or uh radiation or something like that it's a cool place to come and just you know experience the history of it and if you have a geiger counter to hear it go click click click so but anyway let's keep going what'd you say oh that's bad it's like 10 times above background radiation okay i was thinking of getting one but you know it was put off by the by the price of i should get one man it just did good to have all right i would can we have the actual number i think the actual number it's the actual number right now at this spot is 339 counts per minute you think i can grab a picture of that i just i just have to set my camera for all right it's okay i'm grabbing pictures of you guys too pay for this trip so we need a lot of data oh yeah i know i would make little videos about this oh yeah so what are you on youtube i was watching you can we look you up yeah radioactive true oh cool cool wait can i get into that stuff like that perfect yeah i've seen it go as high as 700 here here wow that's nothing i mean i can find stuff at antique shops that are more radioactive in this place like uranium glass uranium glass radium watches radium gauges um i have an old smoke detector that is an overload oh man yeah that's why camera lenses huh yeah oriented camera uh camera lenses i got this this your first time here no third that's cool you got the couples they're laughing of radiation yeah there's trigonotide over there huh oh there's translate all over the place here you could actually go out of the gate to the left and there's like just stuff all over the ground it's crazy but now you know yeah i know people get annoyed by my the sound of the guy or counter or more like questioning it like is that a geiger counter it's like yes it is [Music] [Music] okay that was a nice little look around the trinity site the actual ground zero side but now they actually have uh the mcdonald house which that's where they had uh the plutonium core there and assembled it for this test and then brought the whole bomb over to this area and so it'll be kind of a cool place to check out it's not as cool as the trinity site you know the actual obelisk and stuff being radioactive everywhere but it's got a little bit of history to it it's not a cruiser over there may stop by this radiation tent again and harass those guys a little bit and uh see what else we find [Music] i'm right here at the edge of the entrance to the trinity site the ground zero site where the obelisk is and you can just look down and find these little pieces of trinity here that's kind of cool because there's a line over there for people to view some pretty there are some pretty big pieces that they have in a display case uh right next to all like the radioactive uh items that they have to kind of show off and teach people about radiation which is pretty cool i really enjoy that they do that and try and educate people on what radiation is and what emits radiation and the different types of radiation so it's cool it's it's it's a really fun site to explore and i see kids here and boy scouts and i ran into those people from los alamos that was pretty cool and it's a it's a cool site to visit i strongly encourage you to do so if uh if you're into history and and especially into atomic history or nuclear history this is a really cool site to check out i've only ever been here in april and i really like the weather here right now it's uh not too hot uh not too windy uh the two other times that i've been here the weather's been pretty much the same as it is today really nice and uh cool uh i know there's a time either in i think it's in september or august where they also have an open house uh for coming to the site but i like coming here in in april so but anyway it's a pretty cool place and now i'm going to head over to the mcdonald house and check that out [Music] [Music] come on in got your bus pass four different buses coming back and forth every five to eight minutes so you guys won't miss a bus you guys have a great tour out at the mcdonald house this is where they assembled the plutonium core [Music] the plutonium room popular spot [Music] [Music] door yeah [Music] well and i always thought it was strange when you think about it the bomb that ended the war with japan was assembled in the house by the built by germans before the war that's kind of vibrant i like the twist i did too that's a freaking twist i'm telling you you can make a twist out of everything if you twist hard enough right there and then he had the plumbing put in for water and then he added the two rooms to give mama indoor plumbing because when you're out in the middle of nowhere you better keep your wife happy and then the assistant was several thousand gallons this term right collected all the rain water off the roof but it actually went to a carbon particle filter oh wow before it went into the sister ingenuity again i'm telling you so really drinkable yeah and it should be called the schmidt schneider mcdonald ranch but we noticed a little about the snyders schmidt so with the snyders when he got sick so when he got sick he sold the ranch and moved to florida uh where i don't know but then that snyder sold it to mcdonald's who who did all the additional work wow at one point this ranch ran 12 000 sheep and a thousand head of cattle [Music] there's that living like guy all right so that's gonna do it for the mcdonald house and the trinity site hope you enjoyed this video if you did uh like it consider coming out to the trinity site in one of the twice year dates that come up it's a pretty cool place to check out as far as history goes all right later you
