How provoking Hakeem Olajuwon really can go wrong

[Music] [Music] hey what's up you guys great to have you back of the show I'm Sean David let's talk some old-school basketball in this episode I want to talk about one of the best bits of all time and my personal favorite big Hakeem Olajuwon and I want to tell you a story way you should never ever ever provoke Hakeem the dream but before we start with this video I want to give a quick shout out to when the NBA was looking a lot different than it does today as we all know after the reign of the bad boy Pistons was over to Chicago Bulls dynasty began the Bulls want three championships in a row and even though there were many great teams in the NBA it seemed like nobody could stop the Bulls then when Michael Jordan retired for the first time in 1993 the NBA changed completely before you needed to have a great dominant shooting guard like Michael Jordan or Claire Drexler but now all of a sudden you needed to have a dominant big to compete for a championship players like Patrick Ewing David Robinson Hakeem Olajuwon and a young Shaquille O'Neal were now the face of the NBA and everyone was fighting to be the NBA's brightest star but quickly it showed who would become the new face of the NBA it was the chemo latch one because he was playing the best basketball of his life in 1994 and was averaging almost 28 points ten point eight rebounds 3.4 blocks and 1.8 steals was the only guy I can recall being in the top ten and blocks and steals even though the Rockets only had a team Olajuwon as their only superstar he took that team to the NBA Finals and battled the New York Knicks in an epic seven-game series Hakeem was now on top of the world won the MVP award and was widely considered to be the best player in the world [Music] spend move inside [Music] [Applause] that's ridiculous oh he's just free smoking in hello he's gonna make somebody fight him there's a Miss by Robert Horry who do you think you are get that stuff out of here little guy you got a lot of nerve bringing every week popcorn here with no bottle on it you led your team to its best season ever you're a certain hall-of-famer and you do it with intelligence and a grace that's spectacular for [Applause] [Music] even until today that championship team often gets overlooked and also it's very much underrated the following season the Rockets were struggling every team wanted to beat the reigning champion and the Rockets only won 47 games that season and even though Olajuwon was matching the same numbers of the previous season David Robinson sent until his first 160 games while David was putting up incredible numbers once the playoffs began nobody was given the Rockets a chance to win a title even though Clyde Drexler joined the team in the first round of the playoffs the Houston Rockets were almost eliminated by the you to Jess but just in the right moment at the right time the Rockets seemed to gel and had a major comeback then we came together say that now we have to make our own right now this is it three stocks up the right kept the island stops at under daya try and provide enough available clock as car headed up shot the Rockets were facing the favorites Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference semifinals and in the seven-game series the rockets someway somehow made it to the Western Conference Finals Olajuwon had a great series averaging 29 points per game and showed the world that he was still the best player in the NBA then in the Western Conference Finals the Rockets would face a team with the best record in the NBA the San Antonio Spurs with David Robinson but then something happened that did not sit well with Hakeem the dream they would bring that attitude next to San Antonio awaiting them was the team that the league's best record the seasons Most Valuable Player and some added motivation [Applause] especially for Hakeem Olajuwon I think deep down inside with his personal pride that gave him some extra fire [Applause] the key will felt that he should have been the MVP so with his very own ice out David Robinson what's the water with the MVP trophy everybody who knew Elijah won knew right then that this would not end well for the Spurs David Robinson was no joke he scored 71 points in one single game not so long ago had a quadruple double when the scoring tile and was known to be one of the best defenders the NBA had ever seen but Olajuwon will put on a show and literally toy with Robinson like nobody has ever seen before [Music] [Applause] game requires often so he's got to see some guys score at some point unless you're just going to miss and think about extra possessions Rodman's fine Olajuwon has [Music] [Applause] the and the foul [Applause] pull up at the foul line hit a couple of jumpers we're trying to get all the way to the hoop and stop working talking about pulling it up enrollment against the shock [Applause] flawless execution vastly superior as you would expect [Applause] [Music] one year three can destroy [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Olajuwon why [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] with 34 the go-to guy [Music] Olajuwon no face Virginie [Music] [Applause] pocket [Applause] thirty-two [Music] so we came out here with confidence with patience and playing basketball in that serious hakeem olajuwon proof to these some all-time legends if somebody's able to embarrass David Robinson like that then you know and keeps numbers in that series are unbelievable 35 points 12.5 points rebounds 5 assists 1.2 steals and 4.2 blocks the key was the dream David mentioned every player but dream and do we play in the night and I said the dream I'm like that doesn't make you bad no no Kenny it deserves it then after the game yeah like 46 he goes I'm going to
