mic levels check camera rolling in focus all good hello it's been a while since i've done a sort of sit-at-home chatty style video and this week i decided was a really pertinent time to do one as i just wanted to quickly discuss how many stations are there now hello yes the reason why i want to talk about how many stations are there now on the national rail network is because this saturday the figure changes or does it and that's what i want to discuss this video will go out on the 18th of november in two days time on saturday november the 20th the dartmoor line services to uh oakhampton come back online now this uh well except there was a service before this is the strange thing um i won't be down there on the opening day i should point out but i am going to go down at some point and take a ride in all the stations in 2017 gwr only ran a sunday a summer sunday service to that station and also on that line was sanford courtney and that has closed and that's what changed the station count so oakhampton and sanford courtney were both counted in 2017 um so at the end of all the stations uh we officially acknowledged that there were 2563 stations now i then want to roll on from there because then kenilworth opened in april 2018. finally made kennel work and that became station two five six four uh korff castle uh then had a service operated by southwestern railway is it southwestern trains i always forget uh that started in may 2018 to become station 2565 and then muggle north opened in june 2018 and that became station 2566 and then back on gwr territory uh the north somerset railway uh bishop's lydiad had a summer saturday service that started in july 2019 and that became two five six seven and then after that are some stations which i have yet to visit so uh in december 2019 warrington west opened that became 2568 on the same day in december 2019 rob royston uh in scotland opened that became two five six nine then in february to 2020 uh worcestershire parkway opened still not been i think it's at least used station although it might not be we'll get on to least use station stats in a minute that became 2570 horden then opened in june 2020 2571 kintore uh opened in october 2020 as well sorry not as well but later that's 2572 and then bow street near aberystwyth in wales opened in february 21 and that became two five seven three now at that point i could just you know done and dusted wipe my hands and say that's it there's two five seven three stations on the network except there aren't and that's the tricky thing and it's how you argue it uh and then the office of relund road again we'll get back to them in a minute put out a tweet the other day uh which uh they came up with their total and their total is two five six nine and i'm going with that but i'm going to put in a disclaimer and you're more than welcome and i'm sure you will uh want to argue about it in the comments because what's happening with the reopening of the dartmoor line and a regular every day including sunday's daily service between exeter and oakhampton which is very exciting um they've closed sound for courtney so sam courtney on that line won't be reopening it's just oakhampton that's being served on the dartmoor branch so that takes you down from 2573-2572 but if the orr officially saying it's 2569 then it can only be the three other stations which have sort of closed since all the stations 2017 and that would be ibm uh and man united halt and then red british steel which i have been to with rob which we did uh link to that brilliant video below um which is weird because in my mind they're sort of closed but mothballed but as in they're not closed as in no trains stop there but the station is still physically there because to actually close the station goes through a very elongated and protracted process but it seems to be that because no passenger services call at those stations that they are therefore no longer counted so that is two five six nine and that is why uh with oakhampton well yeah oak hampton was already counted that doesn't actually change the number but it's sam for courtney going that does change the number that makes it one less we're down to two five six nine remember it did have a summer sunday service for many years uh and now they're just making it a daily service so i will be there soon i will be making a video traveling the whole of the length of line again down to oakhampton and riding the daily service i think it's currently two hours it will go to hopefully hourly next year now before we go two things to mention is that yes i've mentioned the office of rail and road their station stats are out next week in a week's time and they will be publishing the station usage stats which will be fascinating because it's the year that no one travelled because covid the dreaded c word and it makes me think that there will be some stations which have zero usage which will be hilarious like you might not know for example for example um uh even when travel sort of came back on again there were like definitely some stations in wales i think gilfag fargoed uh one of them um transport for wales just didn't didn't reopen i think sugarloaf was even closed for a while so some of those smaller tiniest stations with small platforms where the train companies said social distancing isn't possible they didn't reopen them for ages and then maybe if people just didn't get used to going to that smaller station i i just kind of think that there might be some stations which had zero passengers so we're gonna find out next week and then the only other thing which then people will ask uh in the comments and i do want to mention um there is an amazing website uh trundlage i will throw up the full link on screen now no in the description that one and it's basically the resource to go to for news stations so when is the next news station and i was reading just today i'm recording this video at the soham station in cambridgeshire does look set to open uh the second weekend in december in about a month from now so that will be a brand new station that's the next brand new station coming to the network so that will take us back up to two five seven zero and then don't quote me on this i think crossrail will open next year in the spring in which case tottenham court road canary wharf custom house woolwich and bond street except bond street is running late and behind so that might open later than the others uh will be new stations in terms of they will be new stations on the national rail database so that will put us back up to 2 5 7 3 and beyond again and after that you've got places like reading green park bean park portway park and ride dal cross marsh barton reston and fanuc parkway have a look at that website trundledge for when all the new stations are going to come online but some is the next new station so there we go that is our official total of how many stations there are now are on the network how many there's going to be when the next new stations are keep an eye out for the office of random road office of station stats and keep an eye out next week for a video from me traveling down uh having a look at the new branch and all the work that's been done down in devon on oathampton that's it thanks very much please press subscribe thank you see you soon bye
