if you're a fan of Pikmin and watch YouTube regularly then you've probably seen this video by cow food yum titled how many Pikmin does it take to beat Pikmin in the video he finds out exactly how many Pikmin you need to beat the game which turns out to be 50 and honestly it's a good video it's well edited entertaining and a great show of his skill he doesn't let a single Pikmin die in the entire run it's impressive but there's always been one thing that bothered me about the video and that thing is that the whole video is a lie while it's technically true he only uses 50 Pikmin in his run he kind of uses a loophole to do it and that loophole is Candy Pop buds when you throw Pikmin into one of these flowers that Pikmin will turn into whatever type the flower color is so if you throw a yellow Pikmin into a blue flower it'll turn into a blue Pikmin but the catch is is is that it doesn't raise your total Pikmin count so technically he still had 50 Pikmin through the entire run but where it falls apart for me is when you look at how many of each type he used throughout the Run he used 44 Reds 22 yellows and 43 Blues which obviously doesn't add up to 50 and I know the game doesn't look at it this way but I do I don't see the difference between using Candy Pop buds or just swapping out your pick when using the onion in my eyes 109 Pikmin were used not 50 so it bites the question can you actually just use 50 Pikmin to beat the game or do you need to use this candy pop Bud loophole to do it well let's find out by the way don't take this too seriously it's just for fun I don't think he actually lied anyways on with the video not too much happens on day one we Sprout 20 Red Pikmin and grab grab the engine that's it but those 20 Reds will be the only Reds we'll be using throughout the entire run so on day two I get the 20 Red Pikmin to break down both these Bramble walls which takes a long time because there's only 20 of them so long in fat that I decided to clip out of bounds using this pellet so I can start building up my yellow Army while they work on the wall I Sprout 10 yellow Pikmin then go around the forest of Hope blowing up a bunch of walls I then get some more bombs so I can blow up this wall guarding the extraordinary bolt and these Shear grubs prove to be a bit of an issue since we need exactly 50 Pikmin to beat the game we can't afford to lose a single one so when stuff like this happens I have to restart the day but if we bait out their attacks we can kill them without losing any Pikmin I then grab the Whimsical radar and distract this bullo where my Pikmin sneak it by and then I do the same thing with the no no a blaster it's really risky trying to kill bul orbs with only 30 Pikmin so through most of the run I'll be ignoring them on day three we head over and grab the shock absorber which needs exactly 30 Pikmin to carry it and once again we do our best to try and sneak it by this bulb I then use some bombs to clear out the bulbs guarding the movable Bots it might be risky fighting them head on but it's fairly easy killing them with bombs I then grab the extraordinary bolts and once again sneak it past this poor guy who just has no idea what's going on I then move the Bots with some Reds and then defeat the snag the way I always do by swarming its head it's a little sketchy getting the part out of here but with a lucky Miss from the snagret we make it out just fine on day four we find blue Pikmin and start sprouting some seriously dude okay you know what just for that you're going to die oh it takes 25 to carry great okay well at least it's still on the shore I'll just grab my other Pikmin and come back H that's a problem so we restart a four I Sprout 20 blue Pikmin and we grabbed the number one ionium jet I then killed the bread bug in a spot that's not completely horrible and since we're already at our 50 Pikmin limit I couldn't kill him using a pellet it had to be done using throws which was super annoying but we did end up getting the space flow and then I grabbed the automatic gear and gravity jump without much issue on day five we finally have enough Pikmin to grab the external fuel Dynamo and bring it home and then I put all 20 of my Blues on the bridge leading to the Sagittarius and then use this little trick to blow up this wall using some yellows since our Blues were already occupied I then destroyed the wall leading to the armored Cannon Beetle and went and grabbed my Blues so we could bring the Sagittarius home and then with all 50 of my Pikmin I grabbed the radiation canopy and snuck it by by the cannon Beetle on day six I went back to the impact site to free the patron generator from this clam and thankfully it took exactly 20 Blues to carry it out of there I did not want to have to spend an entire day pushing it across this lake bed again on day seven we blow up the wall leading to Bey and then kill the puff stool unfortunately the Omega stabilizer takes 30 Pikmin to carry so we can't carry it with just Reds but with some good timing we can make sure our blue boys get home just fine we then take our 20 Red Pikmin and go fight Bey normally I would do this with yellows but since we only had 10 of them I decided against it the fight itself really wasn't too bad since we only had 20 Pikmin though it was fairly easy just standing in the middle and avoiding his attacks and thankfully the guard satellite only takes 20 Pikmin so we didn't have to put our blue boys In Harm's Way this time on day eight comes our first deviation from cow food Yum's video he uses this candypop Bud to change five Red Pikmin into yellows and then uses those 15 yellow Pikmin to grab the Libra but we actually don't have to do this if you've watched my other videos then you know we can lure a Shear grub over here kill it and clip up on this ledge with the pellet it drops and then we can knock down the Libra using Omar's body if you want a more detailed explanation of what's going on here you can watch this video here but basically lying down with alar is super broken and you can use it to do stuff like clip out of bounds and push ship parts we then bring the Libra back to base with our 20 Red Pikmin move the analog computer on the shore with our 20 blues and then come back with the Reds to pick it up and bring it back to base all without a single Candy Pop Bud on day eight we go back to the forest Naval one last time to pick up the last part the anti-in filter the anti-in filter takes 40 Pikmin to carry and we only have 20 Blues so at first glance it doesn't seem like we can get this part the way C food yum gets it is by converting his yellows and Red Pikmin in the distant spring until he get 43 blues and then just uses the blues to carry the part out normally but since we can't do that we have to get a little creative if we use allar super broken lie down ability we can get the Pikmin to pick us up and start carrying us to towards the base and if we do this right in front of the part it'll push the part forward and if we do this over and over again we can push the part through the water and close to shore we can then use the Pikmin to push it up the shore and then with a couple more adjustments get it fully on to land essentially getting this part with only four blue Pikmin we then come back on day 10 and bring it back to base with our 50 Pikmin thus completing the the forest Naval on day 11 we use our 20 blue Pikmin to grab the repair type bolt and then start building the bridge to the massage machine just like in C Food Yum's video we can kill the shear wads by luring them into water and attacking them we then use our 50 Pikmin to grab the massage machine and then I spend the rest of the day breaking down walls around the distance spring on day 12 we use our 10 yellow Pikmin to grab the UV lamp and then head over to grab the Kronos reactor in cow Fu Yum's video he basically grabs this part the traditional way he converts 20 blue Pikmin into yellows uses the yellows to grab the part off the ledge and then converts them back into blue Pikmin to carry the part home but again we don't have to do this if we throw our 20 blue Pikmin out of bounds here we can lie down in front of this bull bear and use it to clip out of bounds we can then walk along the outskirts of the map with our blue Pikmin and then throw them on the part and then I made sure to distract the The Bu Bears so my Pikmin can bring the part safely back to base oh yeah another useful feature of lying down is that alar takes no damage when he's in this state we then grab the number two ionium jet with our 20 blues and distract the bull Bears once again and then we finish off the day by grabbing the pilot seat on day 13 we take our 20 blue Pikmin and kill this puffy blo hog giving us access to the interstellar radio I then distract some wwad so my Pikmin can bring it safely back home to base and thank God this part only takes 20 Pikmin to carry because getting it out of water without Blues is an absolute nightmare I don't want to relive again we then grab 50 Pikmin and make our way over to the armored Cannon Beetle killing it relatively easily and we get the bow sprit for our troubles I then run some interference on these bull bears and my Pikmin make it safely back home on day 14 we build the bridge leading to the gluon drive and this part part right here is the reason it takes 50 Pikmin to beat the game it is the heaviest part in the game requiring 50 Pikmin to carry it remember that nudging of ship parts I was talking about earlier well you could theoretically nudge the gluon drive all the way back to the ship but unless Pikmin are actually carrying the part the ship won't accept it so no matter what we need 50 Pikmin the real challenge of this video is getting the rest of the ship parts with only that small amount of Pikmin which you can see right here with the zonum rotor the zonum rotor takes 30 Pikmin to carry and we only have 20 blues and it's blocked by this River so that's a problem the way how food yum dealt with this part was by converting his Reds and yellows into 43 blues and then just carrying the part out like normal but since we're stuck with only 20 Blues we once again have to get a little creative if we get 30 Pikmin to the other side of this River we can carry the part until our Pikmin bring it right back into the water we then whistle our Pikmin back to land making sure that none of them die if we then position ourselves in this ledge and lie down we can have our Pikmin pick us up and carry us straight into the part pushing it up the shore and straight on to land just a side note if you're trying this trick for yourself just make sure that you position alar on this ledge if you lie down in the water your Pikmin will just carry you around the part and it won't work but yeah we then get our 50 Pikmin on the part I played chw Toy for the bull Bears one last time and we get the final mandatory part back to the ship and with that we're off to the final trial and honestly the final trial was pretty uneventful since we have access to every Pikmin type we basically just completed it like normal the only part that was a little scary was trying to break down this wall without any yellow Pikmin dying even though we don't really need these three we've had no deaths up to this point and I wasn't going to throw it all away now but yeah we fight the emperor kill him pretty easily and bring the Secret Save back to base getting every part in Pikmin one with only 20 Blues 20 Reds and 10 yellows and most important of all no candy pop buds now like I said in the beginning don't take this video too seriously cow food video is great and his use of Candy Pop buds to complete the challenge is actually pretty smart I just wanted to show you guys that it is possible to beat this challenge without them and showcase some pretty cool trads that allow us to do
