was completely crazy when he decided to point the Hubble Space Telescope at a nearly empty spot in space Williams counted the Fur by saying that he knew exactly what he was doing and if nothing observing time he had a vague idea of what could become visible there his consideration was namely that in an apparently empty spot in the cosmos after sufficiently long exposure time old light radiation should become visible from the background Hubble was actually able to capture luminous objects in the background due to the lack of light sources in the foreground the plan worked and after a few days Williams NASA and Hubble project officials presented an image unlike anything the world had ever seen before the image became known as the Hubble Deep Field you can see some younger and nearby stars in white or bluish light but what is really interesting are the blurry patches of light on the image these show nothing but ancient galaxies spiral galaxies dis galaxies and entire clusters of galaxies for the first time researchers have been able to study light emissions from very distant and very old galaxies the light appears on the image like a featureless speck fuzzy indistinct and perhaps not very interesting unless you know what it is but each of these little specs shows galaxies that existed millions and billions of years ago each of these specs of light emanates from billions of stars that were Within These galaxies thanks to advanced imaging technology and light filtering methods researchers can glean details about galaxies from the light emissions including their size mass and luminosity using red light shifts astronomers and cosmologists can determine the distance age and direction of motion of galaxies the farther away an object is and the farther it moves from our point of view the redder and dimmer the light appears James web Deep Field when the new James web telescope was launched one of the very first images was a brand new Deep Field image the new technique immediately generated excitement the oldest galaxies in this image are also blurry specs of light but the difference in the sharpness and depth of the image is immediately noticeable even to a Layman already few hours after the publication of the picture The Sensational message came a young researcher had noticed a Galaxy which was with an age of approximately 12.9 billion years damn close to the last large bang which is to have occurred approximately 13.8 billion years ago this result already provided for a shock wave among scientists for comparison the oldest galaxies which could be determined on the Hubble Deep Field brought it to an age of approximately 12 billion years so far the world was still in order because the age of galaxies was compatible with the theory of the Big Bang the discovery of the oldest web galaxies continued shortly after the first image was published even galaxies appeared that existed 200 million years after the big bang but not only the fact that so shortly after the big bang already fixed and ready galaxies existed astonished the researchers the galaxy show besides an unusually large star mass and brightness leaving astronomers standing before a mystery have they been mistaken in their models for almost a century and how could could the new observations still somehow fit to The Big Bang Theory the end of the beginning or a cosmological new beginning to understand the problem we need to take a little trip back in time to the moment when the universe is supposed to have come into being from a tiny beginning Singularity the whole creation arose in a bang already within the first second after the big bang all four known basic forces had separated according to previous standard models the universe was an incredibly hot and dense soup of particles in the next 3 minutes the cosmos cooled significantly and the first nuclei of helium and other very light elements were formed nevertheless it was still far too hot to form stable atoms capable of bonding a whole 400,000 years were to pass from this moment until the universe was cold enough to allow the first molecules to form the first
