[Applause] feeding your that so today I'm gonna be running you through all the gear that I took on my first day right now I didn't even know hiking back so small existed before desert into the PCT but there I went with a frameless 40 litre I will say that the first days of a 7-day food carry were not great on the old back but other than that I found this way mic pack worked really well for me my mate Hazen I had a bit on whether this pack would make it to the end and I am still waiting on those beers Hayes again didn't know these were a thing before researching the PCT but this quilt was a lighter option list bulky and also wearable I just needed to learn how to use it properly because for some nights it got a little chilly I started with the plexi mode but the roof reinforcements broke so luckily I got a swapped out for this two-person tajmahal an old man I don't know if I could go back to a single present and life is definitely not a competition let me put that out there but we all know that blowing up your sleeping pad is now I'd never used trekking poles before in my life hence why I got the name tip-tap these guys changed my world hiking feels weird about them now I got these guys of Amazon and they did the job I don't know what else to say just a little PSA to make sure you clean them before returning home I should know better my PEC isn't waterproof so this whole thing kicked my things dry because whoever said it didn't rain on the PCT was lying I knew I'd found my people when I discovered that fanny packs or a thing in the thru-hiking community as you can see this was well-loved and lasted me the entirety of the trail until the zip unfortunately broke and if I had my permit my phone and it's waterproof case lip balm headphones snack of choice my little Osmo pocket and I kept my glasses wrapped up in this cloth in here the world went to the left strap of my pack this gets my camera attached and accessible at all times and essential in my opinion if you're taking a bigger camera out there my camera of choice the sony had been using for a couple of years despite the screen protector the body has definitely seen better days this was obviously attached to the camera body at all times I only took one lens and this was it was all I needed I kept this in my main front pocket you never know when you're going to want to record a quick interview or pista cam so I had this baby handy at all times rechargeable and 100% inspired by Darwin our Savior I removed the bulky strap that comes with a headlamp and attached this bungee cord it would typically lasts a whole stretch or two without needing charged these bottles are great they fit well in packs and they're compatible with my filter you can't get these types of bottles in New Zealand so this is a hot commodity down here seriously someone bring me some bottles this is the only one I have water filtration can be pretty frustrating but just from my own experience I found the soy is be reliable relatively fast and grea never got to these bells speaking of Giardia this is my poop kit stored in a wonderfully discreet bag that isn't transparent for all your dirty toilet paper needs we're keeping things out of sight out of mind we've got the trowel a ziploc for clean TV one for dirty and hand sanitizer you know the drill just like a cat all the greatest multifunction piece of gear you can have my beautiful friend della gifted me this New Zealand buff before heading out she saved me from being that completely survivor nerd and we all know you've got to have your spoon handy at all times let's be frank my pot was a glorified mug in hindsight I should have got the 650 mils but hey I made it work and the mini gas canister still would fit inside it's called the pocket rocket for a reason this thing is so loud but damn it cooks a great Japanese curry from the halfway mark onwards I ditched the stove and ventured into the world of cold soaking great job I acquired this bad boy in Lake Tahoe which meant a peanut butter tube every single resupply toiletries skipped all neatly in this bag I kept my toothpaste just imagine that his trouble sighs I had a toothbrush which would have been chopped to about this length I was more consistent with flossing on trail than I ever had been in my life don't judge me they're not have a little bag with pasta a needle and thread iron pills and ibuprofen tweezers and other miscellaneous things tiger balm my Savior I will always swear by for all you blind bets like me this was my solution carrying almost a month's worth of daily lenses at a time not a great method I guess my little electronic bag that I left behind at hostel California and Bishop sealable and waterproof I stored in here my SD card this was my storage system of Wonders not the smallest or lightest but with fast charging capability it was a godsend when trying to charge the old power bank this took what felt like a lifetime to charge I mean it was full it would last me a stretch on trail I happen to leave it in my outside pocket on our last day before each in Canada so I am back in the market and I might try another brand I found that one spare battery was the sweet spot for me this little guy was a cool tool that enabled me to upload backup and edit or off photos to the Lightroom app on my phone all righty on to what I wore so I started in this button-up shirt that my brother kinto also purchased let's be honest he truly just you know wants to be like me I go to running shorts I ended in these socks but I'm a big fan of the trail thickness and gingi toe socks I used these mainly as sleep socks but also found them great to Hyken my number one essential I acquired this cap in a thrift store in Mammoth I had two pairs of underwear which eventually became one gross I know but it's fine this sports bra was okay I'm so in the hunt for the perfect one a popular choice on trail it was light and warm but I felt like I could have gone a size up just to allow more room for layers and you know my massive shoulders and its prime this jacket looked so cool but I quickly learned it wasn't ideal when it was the only thing I could wear for laundry this is yeah so I have to it also wasn't as waterproof as I'd hoped produced from the sheep of my very own home land I was a fan of these ice breaker layers and this beanie was one that my wonderful talented incredible system made for me he also wore this watch my sunglasses and carried these gloves for my shoes I started and Brooks cascade is with super feet insoles the other four peers I went there were the re Sam loan Peaks mid height ultra temps Lone Peak meds not the IRA same type and I ended in ultra temps I generally buy men's shoes because I've wide flat feet and I think for my next hike I'll start and loan pay close [Music] in Bishop I found this oblong jumper and a thrift store for $5 at some point in Oregon I got tired of my button-up so I got this shirt to represent you know are the colors of my home country by the time we got to know Cal I'd started ditching layers and from Oregon onwards this was my outer warm layer I bought into the Meli high courtesy if I made you a thanks Jeff editions I made for the Sierra or my I sex a bear canister micro spikes a bug net which I didn't actually ever use the stretch to Hyken which was 100% extra but I loved it and glissading pants that I wore zero times my butt cheeks the frozen very first alrighty so that was the gear I used at various stages along the trail it's very likely I missed things out I am no gear expert I'm also not sponsored by any of those brands I'm still awaiting the lifetime peanut butter sponsorship it'll happen one day if you want a Russian list of everything check out the description box if you have any questions go wild in the comments and if you want more personalized insight consider supporting me on patreon and - in this video I will just note that gear is so personal to your belt your budget and your overall needs so if you're watching this video for inspiration that sweet airs but also don't take this list as gospel I personally still have a lot to figure out okay pasty cheek year 2019 this is what I'm taking it's not an extensive list because I still have a couple of things to pick up and I don't know the way to be everything just that I've tried to go as light as possible things have changed but this is run taking as I head out into the desert section okay
