How i turn a Utility Box or Lidded Box. #woodturning #liddedbox #utilitybox #boxturning

hi everyone welcome back to my channel again today's project is going to be a utility box or lidded box so I'm going to make it from a piece of Sycamore and I'm going to make the lid from a bit of walnuts just to have some contrasting colors um hoping to get a box in around four and a half inches so I'm just going to mount this on a woodworm screw first so I'm going to drill an eight mil hole it's a yeah I said it's a piece of Sycamore it's six six inches by two and a half but I I don't need it all I always keep the old room screw pulled pulled out when you're putting it in the chuck and just kind of round it up now foreign for a foot so that's the foot form now so I'm just going to give this a quick second [Music] foreign so we've just marked out the thickness of the rim of the box that I want so this section here now I'm going to turn away so this is called this is waste yeah happy with that finished now so I can make a start on the inside I'm just leaving a small shoulder here for the lid to sit in so I can I'm going to hollow all this section up now thank you one more quarter I think happy with that as you can see in the bottom of this box now it's it's it's rounded I've done one previously a few months back and hold on change camera that's it's rounded it's just it's easier to pick stuff out of it you know so with this particular box I want to have a straight straight sides so I'm going to have to take a scraper to this one I don't usually use carbides but I recently purchased these Easy Wood Tools um only for the I bought a a beading cutter tip on it and um so I just said I tried it squares and it's quite impressive it's really really sharp it left a really really good surface on this but I said I don't I don't usually use carbide so I said we give it a try today you see it's produced some really nice shavings should I stay inside now so I'm going to give it a I'm going to give it a sand a sand up there I'll just passed for a minute I I take it back when I'm finished you'd only be looking at me sanding here yeah so that's the sanding I'll finish now guys I send it up to uh 400 Grit so I'm just going to put a finish on I'm just going to use a some beeswax just for finish because it's gonna it's gonna be a it's going to be a little food jar so that's the base finish now or the box I should say so make start on the lid so it deliberately made it this size as well because it fits fits the four inch choke just perfectly I don't have a set of call jars or anything for holding boxes or small balls but this works perfect [Music] foreign foreign two lines here in the lid I'm just going to put a small recess here this will stay in the underside of the lid and this is the this will be the external diameter of the lead foreign foreign Grace so I'm just going to apply some beeswax now foreign guys one utility box or lidded box turned from Sycamore with Walnut piece of Walnut for for lid just uh to use contrasting colors and I left a little foot on it as well just it looks looks nice from sitting on the table but um I used beeswax for for a finish because it's going to be used for food stuff so that's that's this little project completed so if you like this project guys you might consider subscribing hitting the like button and maybe leave a comment and to anyone who's already subscribed um is much appreciated and I'll catch you on the next one so take care everyone
