the single most important advice i can give you to achieve higher grades is to study smarter to really focus on how you're studying because it's really easy to be so consumed with the material that you're studying all the facts and statistics that you need to remember that you don't take a step back and think am i studying in the most efficient way possible because you don't need to be studying 14 hours a day every day it's not sustainable it's just not healthy it's not an effective long-term strategy so what would be a fast matter long-term strategy is to be studying six hours a day maybe eight hours a day maybe 10 hours a day it might not seem like a lot especially just studying six hours a day right but if in those six hours you're firing on all cylinders you're laser focused you're in a complete state of flow then that six hours of studying a day can often be enough to achieve phenomenal grades and that's exactly what i did at university most days i only had to study for about six hours a day because i had trained my brain into being able to study with 100 focus for that entire six hours and i have coached a lot of students over the last year hundreds have joined and graduated from my transform your grades in 30 days course and what i'm noticing from talking to all of my students is that high performance students so those that are in the top let's say one percent of their school or university they've trained themselves to enter into a state of flow when it's time to study it's just like flicking on a light switch when it's time to study they just study so in this video i'm gonna teach you how to do that i'm gonna go through how i managed to train myself on how to study smart and also how i train my students in the transform your grades course to study smart too firstly let's get this out of the way there are dozens of different strategies you can use to study smarter and decrease the amount of time you're studying so for example studying at your biological peak time working on one very specific task at a time eliminating all distractions improving your study environment making your tasks more engaging and there's a lot i can talk about but i'll go through in more detail the most important strategies that i personally used so there's a technique called advanced information processing and it's an incredibly simple idea but it's really very powerful in terms of how much time it saves you so using this technique i could study for maybe four hours while the next person studies for eight hours but we process the same amount of information it really is that powerful and the key to memorizing what you read is asking more questions if you read a page in a textbook and you get to the end but you think back and you realize you don't remember anything you just read is because you're not asking questions and this is a huge problem when reading big thick heavy textbooks right and let's be honest they're probably not the most interesting and engaging books to read right but asking yourself questions when reading it can exponentially increase the amount of information you retain from the book i never just picked up a textbook and started reading it without kind of regularly asking questions throughout because if you're just passively reading rather than actively reading you're wasting your time and you're not studying smart right you need to engage your mindset where you're more receptive to the information you're reading also when you're reading your course material it's easy to kind of mix up recognizing the content as opposed to understanding the content it's easy to kind of trick your brain into thinking you understand the topic when actually you only recognize it and this is a common mistake a lot of students make because once you think you understand it you're going to move on and learn the other material right so a good way of really dealing with this problem is to close your book or close your eyes even and recall the information if you can't recall the information then you've probably not learned it well enough and you need to go back but if you can recall it relatively quickly and easily then it means that you understand it pretty well and you can move on it's a super simple tool that you can use that i still use pretty much every time i study to kind of test myself and make sure that i actually have learned what i'm supposed to be learning another strategy that is really important is to test yourself frequently and this is really aimed to eliminate passive studying and encourage active study because passive studying is the number one enemy to studying smart if you're studying really long hours but you're still getting mediocre grades then it's probably because you're studying passively rather than actively and there have been numerous studies showing that self-testing is essential when it comes to improving academic performance in one of the studies university of lewisville psychologist keith lyle taught an identical statistics course to two groups of university students and in the first group the students were asked to complete a short quiz at the end of each lecture and in the second group the students didn't have to complete any quizzes and at the end of the course the students in the first groups or the students that had to complete a short quiz after every lecture significantly outperformed the second group in every single exam just a short quiz at the end of each lecture forced the students to kind of recall the information that they had just learned in the lecture therefore kind of reaffirming this knowledge in their long-term memory it's why in the transform your grades in 30 days course after every lecture for the entire 30 days i have a short quiz at the end because it's so incredibly useful when it comes to memory retention and memory recall it doesn't take long to complete each quiz just like 60 seconds or so that's really what studying smarter rather than harder is all about if you can implement a 60 second activity into your day that significantly improves your memory recall then why wouldn't you right and speaking of the course it's still open for student enrollment with a 50 discount everything you need to level up your grades in one package so there's about seven hours of lectures in there to help you study smarter over 30 days going step by step on exactly how i managed to go from achieving d grades to a grades and graduating in the top five percent of my university there are worksheets quizzes a productivity planner a private facebook community group and there's so many other bonuses well there's a link in the description below if you want to check it out so when you are studying don't just read your textbook passively or take notes in class without even thinking about it study smart by quizzing yourself on key concepts particularly at the end of a study session or at the end of a lecture just spending one or two minutes at the end of a study session can have significant improvements on your grades the next major thing that i did to train myself to study smarter was that i learned that i shouldn't be memorizing the content i should be learning it instead and that's quite an important distinction to me i see far too many students in the transforming grades in 30 days coaching program memorizing everything they read without trying to understand it so they're studying really hard they're putting in the hours but then when their exams come around their grades don't match with the number of hours they put into their studying because often exam questions are structured in a way that requires the application of knowledge right but once you understand the material you'll be able to answer any question on that particular topic that might come up and you can explain it very well i guess when you memorize something you learn it on a very basic level right whereas when you truly learn something when you understand it on a far deeper level the more paths in your mind that connects new information together the easier and more coherent that data becomes therefore the better position you'll be to answer any questions the feminine technique is a good way of testing yourself to see whether you truly do understand something so the feynman technique involves teaching the content that you have just learned to others and it involves four very basic steps step one study now this is simple just sit down and study a topic step two now here's the interesting part you teach what you just learned when you were studying to someone with zero knowledge of the subject but make sure that your books and notebooks are closed you should teach someone who hasn't even read the basics of the field you're studying so simplify the concepts to the greatest extent possible so use pen and paper or whiteboard to draw diagrams if necessary just like a teacher would so for a high school student imagine explaining it to a sixth grader or high schooler for a university student you just have to assume that the person has no knowledge of the topic step three observe which parts of the topic you were able to explain well and which parts you couldn't explain well and now you go back to the book and you try to understand the topics once again if while you were explaining the topics you noticed that you used a lot of academic jargon do bear in mind that it may be because you didn't understand the topic well enough you should be able to explain complex topics in very basic terminology step four repeat the above mentioned steps until you can explain the topics without any gaps or use of jargon in your explanation and without opening your book so several studies have shown that students have better memory and better recall abilities when they have the expectation that they will have to teach it to someone else right and it makes sense because a teacher not only has to learn the information for themselves but they also have to know the material well enough that they can explain it in very simple terms they also have to be ready for any question that might be thrown at them so i use a lot of advanced study methods to kind of trigger my brain into memorizing a lot of information in a short amount of time when i was at university but imagine this imagine if you could study smart and you could study long hours i'm talking studying 10 12 hours with 100 focus that's what i talk about in a video i made recently it's one of my most popular videos on the channel i go through how i study 12 hours a day with 100 focus you can click on the card on the screen alternatively i made another video on how to decrease your studying by 50 but still achieve higher grades you can click on the card on the screen and whichever video you choose i'll see you over there
