How I Made A Track Using Only AI

this is my new track and this is Dua Lipa singing on it okay okay I've been a bit naughty I've been telling porcupies as many of you have probably already guessed I used AI to do this but I wanted to see how good this really was I wanted to see if I could trick a real Dua Lipa fan into thinking this was actually a new Dua leaper track that for me would be the definitive test as to how powerful these tools are so now I just need a Dua Lipa Super Fan luckily I have a friend who really likes Dua Lipa so I called out my mate Mike who not only loves pop music but is an audio engineer so I knew his ears were going to be pretty difficult to drink but I really wanted to up the stakes on this one so if I couldn't convince Mike that this is a Bonafide Dua Lipa track I was going to shave my head and when you've got as little hair as me that's kind of a big deal especially as I ran into a few problems along the way like how is this even possible but let's go back and we'll start from the beginning first I figured a top-line vocal has three main components one the lyrics two the melody and three the actual performance and recording of the vocals themselves so I did some research on Google and found the three main tools I was gonna use one chat GPT to write the lyrics to Captain Melody to write the melody and three top media Ai and la la la Laos lalals.com to actually sing the voice and make it sound like Dua Lipa that was the plan so let's see what actually happened the first step was the lyrics using chat GPT now you may or may not know but with cat gbt it's all about giving prompts asking it questions for it to then generate the best results for you now I knew I wanted to create something that had a similar vibe to don't start now so the first prompt I wrote in was simply write me lyrics for a dance song in the style of Dua Lipa that will work well at 124 BPM okay what's this come up with oh the nice is cooling we're ready to ignite electric energy will set the world alight move your body closer Let The Rhythm take control in this neon Paradise we're gonna lose control yeah at this point I was thinking this sounds more like a nursery rhyme so I'm going to try a different prompt and see if I get any better results write me original lyrics for dance music track and the style of Dua Lipa okay what have we got here turn up the lights we're hitting the floor a rhythm so tight we're ready for more heartbeats racing bodies Collide the DJ's playing we're in overdrive I'm sure I'll have to edit it but as a starting point that's pretty good great so I have my lyrics Next Step was generating the melody and this is where I moved over to using Captain Melody by Captain plugins and that was well let's find out so for anyone who doesn't know the captain's plug-in Suite is a way to generate midi and different cores and Melodies and even drums if you don't have much music theory practice so at the moment I've got my Loop and I've just put Captain chords a midi Channel and a programmed in the same chords that I'd already programmed it because I don't want you chords I'm just looking for the melody right okay so let's create a midi track and I'm going to drop in Captain Melody and that should sync up with the chords so we can see it's in B minor which is the key of our track Perfecto Mundo so now let's generate a Melody see what happens that's too loud turn it down turn it down let's try some of these other shapes foreign [Music] okay so I could generate a Melody from this but there's one that keeps popping in my head anyway so I'm just gonna hum it in because I want to do this as quickly as possible and if we look here I've also got the chat GPT lyrics in front of me so it's going to make it a bit easier to hum along a Melody that I like and apologies in advance for my singing so let's hit record it's all armed [Music] [Music] well then it was time to use my next Tool top media AI to program in the vocals and have it generate the voice okay so I'm On Top mediaai.com I'm just gonna paste my lyrics into this box here I'm going to choose the female vocal and then I'm gonna hit convert turn up the lights we're hitting the floor a rhythm so tight we're ready for more okay well it's definitely a voice from text so I'm gonna download this and see what we can do with it okay cool so I've got my lyrics I had my melody and now it was time to use AI to make that into sounding like Dua Lipa and that is where I ran into my first real problem I might have had my lyrics and I might have had my melody but how is it going to bring these two things together I could kind of take what I generated in the speech generation app and then use a lot of autotune and vocoding but I absolutely knew that was going to sound terrible wasn't it [Music] in the floor yeah it sounded terrible so next I thought okay well maybe I'll sing it then I'll have the lyrics sang at the right time at more or less the right pitch then I can just take those upload them to loudhouse.com and hit the duolipa button and here's how that went testing testing oh turn up the lights we're hitting the floor a rhythm's so tight we're ready for more okay so now it's downloaded I can upload that audio back into Ableton and let's see how it sounds turn up the lights we're hitting the floor a rhythm's all tight we're ready for more that doesn't sound anything like Dua Lipa at this point I was getting a bit scared I mean I don't have much hair as it is and I really didn't want to lose the rest of it I tried using the computer to sing I tried using myself to sing and neither of them were anywhere close to working then one more idea came to me what if I could enlist the help of a real singer who already sounded great and then just use AI to make her sound like you're a leaper I knew I was moving outside of the Realms of AI at this point but the main point of this experimentation was to end up with something that least sounding half good otherwise it would have been a complete failure so I headed over to sound better dot com a website that helps bring producers and musicians together and started searching for a suitable singer my wife Mila helped with this whilst I got back to coaching our accelerator students ah the beauty of teamwork for the next day we reconvened and Mila had a short list of three female singers all with great examples on their profiles that we could listen to so we chose the one we felt could deliver as close to Dua lipa's style as possible and set her to work so she sent her first version which was really good but when bringing it into the track I realized it needed a couple of tweaks in terms of which lyrics to switch around the expression on some of them and a few lyrics were slightly out of time so we sent the feedback to her she re-recorded and one or two days later we had the final version and it sounded great [Music] sounding good now to be be honest I think this sounds pretty awesome as it is and I could just finish the track with these vocals but I needed to continue with the experiment I was so curious as to whether AI vocals really could produce the goods as I knew it could potentially change the face of music production forever and more importantly was I going to be able to trick Mike I knew there was no way that Mike would think that this was Dua Lipa singing and that was enough for me to want to continue qlalals.com a website where you can upload any vocal and have the algorithm make it sound like the voice of a famous singer I was nervous at this point I had all my efforts been for nothing was this going to produce the goods let's see what happened okay so I'm on the lalals website and I'm genuinely nervous about this I put so much effort into this now and money so I want to see if it works I'm just gonna try it with the lead vocals first I'm just going to drag and drop on there and see how it sounds now I'm excited turn up the lights we're hitting the floor what time we fight with bodies called light the DJs play you're wearing overdrive that's pretty good you know they've got her breathiness so I was pretty pleased at this point I knew then I just needed to process the vocals change the EQ and just make it sound a bit more like Dua Lipa in terms of the frequencies being hit the fundamental tombra of her voice was there so All That Remains now is to see whether this is actually good enough to trick Mike so I'm going to pack this up finish my tea and cycle over to the studio well okay all right we're in the banter chamber I've got the track that I've been working on with Dua Lipa I told you about it on the phone I'm very excited about it and as a big fan I want to see what you think I'm super excited to hear this so I've actually got the actual Ableton project that I've been working this in as well so look at those stems man I know it's demolicious right I'm gonna play it and then we're gonna listen to the first verse and then the bridge in the drop I was just wondering total honest opinion what you think like the beat summer vibes that's the intention [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] that's an incredible piece of work wow I've been waiting quite a while to hear this because you've been telling me for a few weeks now yeah this project super top secret I'll let you hear it soon yeah and that is insanely well produced I always knew something that you'd create would be amazing but the fact that you've produced her vocals so well for me thanks man well thank you for having me listen to it and what if I was to tell you I'm I'm so glad you like that because that's not actually Your Leader what how is that possible I know it sounds very similar and I'm so glad it does because it means I don't have to shave my head though it's actually I used AI to do that that is AI duoluper that is insane I know so cool I know yeah I tried it with my own voice didn't work so I paid a singer who was already really talented and then I put it through an algorithm and it made it sound pretty much like Dua Lipa to the degree that you a self-professed mega fan yeah totally actually thought that was your leaper I love it amazing incredible keep your hair it looks good on your head and your viewers will love it I'm sure so what can we conclude from this that I'm very thankful that the AI is actually sounding really good because I got to keep my hair but not only that it just opens so many options for us as music producers at the moment I think this spoken word AI is generating better results than the singing ones but it's getting better all the time and I really think that these tools are going to change the face of the music industry now ai is definitely a tool that is there to help us but it doesn't replace human creativity we still need to give it the prompts that we need to create the vision that we have in our head and that's a good thing tools should help us express ourselves better not replace us the biggest question for me though with this is how is it going to work in terms of copyright in the future if the vocals on a track sound so similar to the original artist do they have any claim over that even though it's not actually them singing these are questions that I cannot answer at the moment but what I can answer is how to get your vocals sounding really good I've put together the vocal chain that I used in this video and I've used in hundreds of tracks that have been signed to some of the world's biggest labels and I put them together in this video right here so if you are using AI or whether
