hello everyone today we have this beautiful dresser and I have this amazing idea what I'm going to do with it I got this dresser that is in actually really good condition we gave it a really good clean of the camera so we can just straight dive into painting uh this dresser is full of details and inspires me so much for my colors I pick anislon honfleur and Emperor's silk the reason I picked these two colors is because I am trying to create a burnt red color very uh like dark red I want it to be red but I wanted to be like burnt red if that makes any sense and the first thing I'm going to do is give it a good stir to bold colors and then we're going to mix them up and I'm going to mix a lot because this is a big dresser [Music] okay first I'm going to pour horn floor and then we're going with red oh boy [Music] Okay so we've mixed this we stir this until our colors are Blended together completely and you don't see any separation um and I still see here horn floor here and there and it's very important when you're stirring to go really deep because you have colors stuck at the bottom so you want to make sure you really stir it well now that my color is mixed and I really like it I got my medium brush and I'm ready to start painting [Music] once my first coat is completely dry I'm going to do exactly the same thing on the second coat my focus on this piece is gold leaf and you will see what I'm going to do and how I'm going to do it but I first have to have a nice color to match my gold living [Music] foreign as you can see here I didn't remove the hardware you can go ahead and remove your Hardware if that's easier for you but I just choose not to remove it it doesn't bother me I can work around it with the hardware already being attached onto the dresser I think sometimes it's a must you have to remove it but in this case what I'm doing today I don't have to remove it so I'm just painting over it as well [Music] foreign [Music] our first coat is completely dry and I feel like I say this so many times but it's dry and now I can start my second coat um when I'm waiting for my First Coast coat to dry I leave my brush just laying around like this so you always get a little bit of hard so what I do to fix that I just spray some water just a little bit to give it moist and it will paint just fine um I find this dresser beautiful but a little hard to paint all these detail areas so it's a little slowing me down I'm not really flying here but that's totally fine after I'm done with the second coat I will leave all these to dry overnight and I'm coming tomorrow to Gold Leaf and wait until you see how I'm going to go with it so I think you're going to love it I'm very excited I'm just using a detail brush to go in these areas that are hard to reach to make sure I have nice coverage this is done two coats done and now we're going to start gold leafing so what I have here is gold leaf glue and I have a little container with water to keep my brushes clean in between when I'm gold uh when I'm applying glue I like to refresh my brushes with just some water and I have Goldie uh I have detail brushes here um I have two just in case I need it and of course I have my gold leaf thank you so what is my idea for these pieces to go leave behind this on each door so to a great kind of gold plates behind on each drawer on each door and we have so many of these little squares so we're just going to start applying Gold Leaf glue Focus uh try to be precise as much as I can because I want nice uh straight lines so I'm going to use a bigger brush for inside and then I'm going to go with this smaller brush around the edges to pull nice clean lines and then after that we're going to do something else I'm also going to go leave the hardware as well foreign glue is dry and ready to go it's not dry while I say when I what I mean when I say dry I mean it's ready uh it's tacky uh as you can see it darkens the color of chalk paint but when you first applied it's very milky and we don't have any milky color anymore I applied on the hardware and in each Square so now I can start go leafing I'm just going to take this slowly don't rush the process [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] this is pretty easy I don't want I don't have to worry about anything because my gold leaf is only going to stick where the where I apply the gold leaf glue so it's only going to stick where you want it and that's why it's important when you're doing jobs like this to be very precise foreign I really really like it I think this was great idea it's tough job I'm not gonna sit here and pretend like this is the easiest thing to do because of the glue um I really had to focus it took a lot of my energy and the goal Leaf is not so hard to apply it's pretty it's going pretty easy uh so it's not the easiest job in the world but it's definitely worth it like worth every minute spent on this dresser this is so worth it [Music] I got to take the step back that's when you really see the the look [Music] wow this looks so good [Music] I am all done gold leafing and I really really love how this looks uh it adds so much character to this piece um so what I'm going to do now is brush all the gold leaf off uh there is a lot of little loose pieces so we're going to keep brushing probably I will be brushing for an hour because I want to make sure every single little dot is gone from my pieces one important thing is to do when you're working with darker colors is make sure you get rid of all these little fine dust from gold leafing so it doesn't spread all over your piece later when you're waxing so just be patient and make sure you brush everything off foreign so we clean everything the piece is now ready to be protected and aged my idea is to age this with dark wax uh and to age also go leafing in the areas I want it to look like shaded um not so shiny so I'm going to show you how I'm going to do that I actually tested a little area out one drawer and I really love how it looks so for this we will need anislon clear wax and it's on dark wax some waxing brushes and microfiber cloth and we are ready to wrap up this piece and see how everything looks done so the first thing I'm going to do is protect the gold leaf area using a microfiber cloth and that is how I like to do it I like to go first over gold lift areas and then after that I will go over a whole drawer with a brush foreign is too shiny and it's too bright and it looks almost fake so we always go with clear wax or some kind of top coat I definitely exaggerate a lot I was told that by my friends um I know I exaggerate when I'm putting the clear wax but that's how I like it and that's what I will keep doing I will have plenty obviously I have a lot of buildups here but all these buildups are going to disappear now when I start applying dark wax so we're just going to start going everywhere this is making the color even darker it's bringing out on floor Stones more brown tones and that was my goal all right and then I'll keep on moving and doing this section by section this is how I like to work with my pieces section by section um I know some people think that you have to protect everything first with clear wax then you have to go with the brown wax you can do that if that works for you but I'm just kind of person that really loves to do section by section that way if you make a mistake you're not too far gone and that way you're like okay maybe this was not such a good idea I can fix this and I can turn it around um but this is how I've been doing it for years and uh that's what I will keep on doing one thing you have to just think about when you are adding lots of dark wax like I'm doing here by tapping um you will probably need a little bit longer time for that wax to completely cure but it will cure and it will be totally fine to touch it and use it and it won't come off as I'm working on this hardware and I'm tapping I'm realizing how gorgeous this looks so I'm just going to go and do that all over the gold in each uh draw on on each door so I'm just going to tap because it gives such a nice cool effect to Gold it's so pretty I really love it and I just figured this out by playing so sometimes you just have to experiment and play to see how will come out um what happens if you don't like what you're doing with your dark wax you can always remove it with clear wax or mineral spirits so you don't have to Panic it's totally fine a little more oh my God this is so pretty so I still have a little extra around the edges like more uh aged but all over gold it looks so pretty look at that love it love love love I'm done with this section and I really love everything about it but looking at all these detail work I just feel that it's missing some gold building wax so that's what we're going to do we're going to add some gold gilding wax um and I was thinking which color to use I wanted to go with the cosmic ray gold but I know it's too orangey and then I wanted to go with a vintage gold but I know it doesn't have enough warmth in it so what I'm going to do I'm actually going to mix these two and that's what I'm going to use to go around with this little brush and apply gilding wax around the edges and a little bit here and I feel that will complete the look so let's mix it up so we're going to put some of this and you can see this one is too orangey it's a beautiful one but it's too Orange and then this one it just doesn't have enough of warmth in it so I'm just going to mix these two [Music] and this is going to give me the right shade that I want Let's test it out oh yeah this is beautiful I love this shade that we just created we're going over here oh my God this is matching so good to go live it's going over the edges a little bit to leave this small lines and if you make a mistake and you go over some areas that you don't want you can always remove it with mineral spirits so nothing to be afraid of I'm just repeating the process on each drawer and I am going to move along once I'm done with this side I'm going to do exactly the same thing clear wax Brown wax costume mix color of gold wax I really love how this looks it looks amazing I can't wait to take a step back and look it but when I CL look at it like this from close-ups it's absolutely gorgeous and I'm so happy to be back at painting because this is my calling and Furniture needs me and I need it too let's not forget that [Music] my plan was to just keep on waxing and finish this piece yesterday but I didn't realize how many details this piece has actually I did realize but I thought that I was going to be able to finish everything but by the time I was done doing the front drawers I was so tired tired and exhausted and I left the top for today so today I'm going to protect the top and sides and we will be all done and all I'm going to do to the top is apply clear wax followed by dark wax and that's it you don't have to rewax your pieces clear wax is really durable I have it around my home and I have pieces that I painted years ago and they're in perfect condition and that's it all I have to do now is do the same Pro practice on the side and we're all done we're taking the piece up uh from in front of the store to Stage it and take some amazing photos and show you how it looked how it looks all finished thank you
