hugh freeze nearly drowned his own career with various missteps at ole miss which led to him being available and trying to resurrect his career at liberty now liberty is a faith-based institution and they believe that true repentance is the only way and only path to redemption gmo jakowski talks with hugh freeze who thinks that redemption is far more important than any winning streak can gene see me i can't see you can you see me coach what's up brother same light blue color i like it i kind of instituted this when i got here because i did it at ole miss too it worked out there all right when we wore the baby blue and the ole miss rebels are going to beat bama in back-to-back years this is all about the wardrobe and those outer blue helmets that seal them [Music] in 2015 hugh freeze was a head coach on the brink of national stardom ole miss with a dominant performance by 2017 he was a cautionary tale a football pariah undone by personal indiscretions and an ncaa investigation his rise in free fall was sudden and stunning school's athletic director said an examination of frieza's phone records revealed a call to a number linked with a site that offered escort services how would you describe the last five years of your life well there's uh valleys and there's mountaintops i experienced a valley that i never thought i would ever experience and i know that uh i hurt people in in uh with my selfishness and i can never say i'm sorry enough i took the lumps i took the punishment and i paid paid whatever price earlier today we announced that coach you freeze has resigned from his position as our head football coach that was rock bottom that was uh as low as it gets professionally to lose what your name stands for and and to know you caused it is not easy what do you think the perception is right now yeah it's probably 70 percent that that identify with me that uh say you know what i've had a i've had a poor decision in my life and i've experienced failure and man go coach freeze and then there's probably others that say i don't want to have anything to do with the guy for nearly two years after his forced resignation freeze was considered radioactive you start getting like will i ever get another chance to do what i love to do liberty for sure was the only you know only university that uh you know offered me the opportunity to lead a program thank you very much the liberty flames are unbeaten first ranking at number 25 coming into the game you said in a recent interview it would take something really really special for you to even consider leaving liberty would a job opening like south carolina be special enough i i won't even entertain things of that nature at this point but is there some small part of you that would love to get back to the highest level of college football there's always that that itch like man i want to prove it i want to go do it and i want to do it in that biggest arena that i can so yeah i mean every i'm made that way and as you sit there right now do you think you'll be the head coach at liberty university next season i do really am at total peace with staying here as long as they'll have me [Music] thanks for watching espn on youtube for live streaming sports and premium content subscribe to espn plus
