this video is brought to you by brilliant with us now firmly in the election campaign period focus is now squarely on Rishi sunak and Kia starma their efforts on the campaign Trail will be essential in winning voters over to their respective parties so it's vital that they work as hard as they can to clearly communicate their message and avoid making too many blunders considering that unlike starma sunak had time to prepare prior to calling the election his campaign got off to a particularly Rocky start so in this video we're going to have a look at exactly what has gone wrong so far how this affects the Tory's chances of winning and ultimately whether it's possible for sunak to bring it [Music] back before we start if you haven't already please consider subscribing and ringing the bell to stay in the loop and be notified when we release new videos nowak's problems actually began on Wednesday when he first announced the election to be fair to him sunak had reportedly been planning the election ever since the local elections and the fact that he managed to keep it under wraps was impressive considering the backlash from Tor MP since it's likely that had it been leaked sunak would have faced a serious backbench rebellion in an attempt to cancel the election knowing that they were likely going to lose their seats however any positivity he likely felt from this almost certainly evaporated when he actually made the announcement in front of the door of number 10 in which he was drenched and drowned out by protest protesters playing the 1997 labor Anthem things can only get better this spawned a bunch of memes and set a pretty negative tone for the Tory campaign from the get-go and well things weren't improved later in the day when sunak went to his first campaign event in the evening at the Excel Center it was here that security removed Sky's political correspondent Darren mcaffrey while he was live on air with mcaffrey explaining that he was told that there were pool arrangements meaning that other broadcasters were obliged to share their footage and that there was no space for him at the venue even if this was the case it's just not a good look for the prime minister to have a journalist thrown out of their very first campaign event and even worse when the narrative has already just been started that your campaign launch has been a failure now these two events really embedded this media narrative and as a result they started to look for more evidence to play into this narrative anyway Thursday the second day of the campaign actually began with some good news for sunak that Nigel farage would not be running to be an MP with reform UK in a tweet announcing this farage claimed that important though the general election is the contest in the United States of America on November the 5th has huge Global significance sunak had been worried that farage would enter the race and take a significant number of votes away from the Tories while him not standing in the race hasn't neutralized the reform threat it has at least mitigated the worst effects of it soon after this though sudak went back to receiving negative headlines this followed a campaign event in darbishire in which he took questions from voters one of the questions he was asked was whether his Rwanda plan was going to see results and stop the small boats coming it turned out that this question came from a conservative counselor again he received backlash for this presumably hoping that he'd be able to get past this and make some positive headlines sunak then went to a pub in Wales and spoke to people there about the upcoming Euros tournament asking one pubgo if they're looking forward to all the football he then had to be reminded that Wales actually haven't qualified again on its own this wouldn't be too terrible it might make headlines so might look a bit out of touch but the papers would ultimately move on relatively swiftly but again this just built into the already established media narrative that sunak campaign is floundering and well it just didn't end here on Friday sunak took questions from journalists in the Titanic quarter in Belfast where he was promptly asked whether he was presiding over a sinking ship later that day sunak was then pictured standing in front of of an exit sign on the plane something that sparked another round of memes as if these two visual metaphors weren't enough he then ended the day building a literal red brick wall now for our International viewers this is what a bunch of previously labor seats that switched Tory in 2019 are referred to as sunak then decided that following all of this it was best to take Saturday off from campaigning which was an unusual move given that the campaign had only lasted 2 or 3 days at this point it seems that on this day off from camp campaigning sunak decided on his strategy for the campaign to appeal very specifically to his base now we should point out here that this is obviously speculation as it wouldn't exactly be wise for a party or leader to admit their strategy in the middle of the campaign however this seems to be the case because in the days that followed sunak made two pretty massive policy announcements he promised to bring back national service for 18-year-olds something that plls well with leave voters 2019 Tory voters and the 65 Plus age group and he promised to increase the triple lock State Pension to a quadruple lock by effectively promising that the state won't tax the state pension something that's obviously favored by older voters now instead of trying to win over the center ground sunak appears to be going for the defensive strategy of trying to prevent his base from voting reform UK the benefit of such a strategy is that it makes a catastrophic defeat less likely as you're more certain that at the very least your DieHard supporters won't leave you but it makes a victory also less likely as you're unlikely to attract anyone but your core supporters as things stand it's far too soon to tell whether this strategy is going to work for sunak this will only become clearer further into the campaign however it's undeniable that sunak is fighting an uphill battle The Narrative has been set and it's going to be very difficult for him to overcome this this has also been reflected so far in the polling sunak entered the campaign period sitting on a 20o polling deficit many expected that at some point in the campaign the pole Gap would tighten although at least as yet this hasn't been seen now it is true that a JL Partners poll released on Tuesday showed that labor had only a 12-point lead which is almost half what they entered the race with however two other polls released the same day one from cation and one from Redfield Wilson showed a 23o labor lead the following day yuger released a poll showing an even larger 27o lead so on the whole a tightening just hasn't been obssed oberved however there's still more than 5 weeks until polling day so we'll have to see whether sunx apparent strategy does end up working for him when making videos like this we
