No disrespect but I think he went in there knowing which cards to play.
Good thing he wasn't just a normal guy with problems, I guess.
Itβs cool of the judge to let him go but itβs also bullshit to blame running a red light on War. Especially when the story goes from I donβt remember to i was anxious and going to the VA when shown video.
What kind of radiation would he have experience in Iraq?
The way this judge treats a War Vet...you wont believe what happens next
I normally like this judge but treating the invasion of Iraq as if it were saving the United States has always been absurd to me.
Iβm a war vet. I feel for this guy but itβs double sided for me. He needs help, and coming down on him would be counter productive for his recovery but what about the other drivers out there? If being late to an appointment is hard for him imagine killing or seriously injuring someone while running a red light.
I'm probably too late for this, but I feel like I can really contribute on this particular item, so I'm gonna throw my hat in the ring.
I've been in this judge's court. Judge Caprio has a clear stance that he's not there to ruin people's lives. He wants to let you go, he wants to reduce the fines, he wants to make things easier. And he does.
To address the severity of the infraction relative to the ease of dismissal:
The red light cams don't give out full tickets. Just a monetary slap on the wrist. Since they are so minor, in a legal sense, Judge Caprio is pretty flexible about them. (When I was a poor college student, I ran a stale yellow and got caught on one of those cameras. He cut my fine in half just for showing up to the court date.)
I firmly believe if the driver was pulled over by a cop for running a red light and given an actual ticket, then Judge Caprio would not have dismissed the whole thing.
Running a red light is how people get killed in an accident. Be it for being drunk, anxious or generally negligent, it's something not to do.
This is stupid.
