Hoof Trimmer

as long as cows have walked the earth their hooves have grown and for as long as we've depended on them for milk and butter somebody's had the job of looking after their nasty little poo filled cloven feet down on the dairy farm they call this job hoof trimming it's stinky difficult work but to AH misa-nee it was a business opportunity an opportunity that required some innovative equipment to get the job done you've got a truck here that is not like any truck I've ever seen nope the cow goes inside this thing cow go inside we got a belly band it's a drought they're going to hold the cow from the bottom yeah and then we're going to lay the cow on the side tie the feet and we're going to work on the feet we're gonna lift the cow up in the air yeah yeah hello girls so we got them one at a time army yeah the one that plane down usually maybe she got it sure of them well you got two at a time there good god you got a cow in the air you turn your back for one minute you got a flying cow how much is this cow way 900 800 pounds hey how you doing everything cool 5:33 looks okay yeah you see how the hooves start to get twisted she's a little bit overgrown so the goal then is to clean the inside to trim the inside and to leave her to walk on the outside wall so we clean the outside walls make sure nothing stuck between the cloth and we start to work from the inside she doesn't feel it and less you know you go too deep which we got a very be careful if they're never trimmed these things just would just grow like toenails the cow not going to be comfortable you're not going to be able to eat and she's not going to produce and most likely you're going to lose the cow you're talking they could grow out to here yeah laughing run around the toes first I me and his crew worked from sunup to sundown trimming hooves it takes two trimmers for each cow that's good good didn't drink milk this morning huh oh no worries it happens at home sometimes but never quite to that the Greek a hoof knife is used to remove any poo stones or bruises from these heifers hooves well this is nice it's a French manicure there yeah do we a well polish off this this is great mister you got the belly yeah yeah now I'm losing it when she's on ground now she's totally on her own feet again with her fancy new whoo yep Brooke the nice little partying hey how are you come on let's get a pedicure now it's my turn to show AMI what I've learned I got a big stick kind of things come on yes yes don't make me put my arm in your bottom I'll do it through the miracle of modern technology over eighty thousand hooves are manicured on this fancy tipping table every year why am I out of breath one cow we start with the Dahle edge we address the book we get off some of the cake too my responsibility on this show is to do my best to get the job done and thereby create a comparison between my often substandard results and those of a trained professional being outclassed is a part of the job but by an 11 year old now it's always nice when a kid stops by to show you up yeah I see what never did this when I was growing up so what are you doing now alcohol's you're pulling the pool out of the middle of the cloven hoof pretty much he's in with the nippers he approaches the toe uses two hands can't say as I blame him well hoof is hard this is gonna be awkward if your classmates are watching man kind of embarrassing isn't it like just quote that see I hate it when he does it makes it look easy to me yeah that's nice touch with the hay bale hay just never really seen the world from this I up torn you from this view this is here smart alec 11 year old hoof trimmer thought I'd seen it all unless you said my name little knew who you mean by smart alec I think they do their watch dirty jobs yes what do you think I think it's kind of funny to see you get your shoe stuck in bat crap did he just say bat crap yeah you know I feel terrible we're gonna have to cut your dad out of the whole piece and make you the star can you live with that yeah just getting better no his name is yob he would be 13 now and for the record he really is a smart alec and if he ever grows up he knows exactly what he wants to be a professional hoof trimmer and if I were the old man I'd watch my back
