HOMESCHOOL ROOM TOUR

hello everyone it's jess the homeschool convert and today i am so excited to share with you one of my favorite rooms in my house our homeschool room [Music] this room has served us so well this past year if you're new to my channel my family decided to homeschool due to the global pandemic and ended up loving it and i'm a complete homeschool convert now so i created this channel to encourage others who have also chosen the path of homeschooling or to just share information with those who are potentially interested in homeschooling their family or just want to learn more so if that is 100 necessary to homeschool well or successfully but we were able to move and shift things around to make this happen and it's just been a room that's brought me so much joy and we have loved it for our homeschool but you definitely don't need a dedicated room to homeschool you can do it at your kitchen table you can do it in your living room do it works for you sometimes we go outside even so uh we just love this space though and it's been fun to create and we just love being in here every day but without further ado i am so excited to share our school room with you if you have any questions about it please be sure to leave a comment below but let's go ahead and get started okay so i'm standing right at the entrance here's the door to our school room and i'm just gonna give a quick pan i have my phone and the wide angle mode so hopefully you can get a pretty good idea for the space back up more into the corner here now bear in mind that it is the end of our school day i clean up at the end of the day well the girls help me and so during the day it obviously is being used and so it doesn't look quite this pristine but i really love what we have done with the space there are some changes that i want to make to readjust for next year but as we go through i'll climb to talk about some of those but let's go ahead and start on this side before we dive into this fall wall was a labor of love i just had this like vision of having this whole wall be a gallery like this with all sorts of beautiful images that i don't know just kind of reminded me of an old school house not that an old school house would have this much on it but um i liked the vibe of that kind of lived-in feel that a lot of these images have and i am definitely i definitely lean more towards minimalism and the rest of my house but i have not leaned toward minimalism in my school room as you'll see i this is a very unique room in my home but i really do just love it so i'll talk through where i got stuff a lot of stuff i got secondhand what i can i'll link down below and i'm also going to make a pinterest board where you can kind of go and find links to all the free things that i found online and whatnot so start with this ruler you can't really see it from here but i did get the girls heights at the beginning of the school year we'll get them at the end uh that was a facebook marketplace place find up here was a goodwill find for like 550 or something like that oh i got it like point fire when i'm on wide angle lens and i just thought that was really really neat and then this is a vintage geography print that i found for free on pinterest and i just love it i love the colors in it down here i got this corkboard from goodwill and we just put random art stuff that they do it's changing all the time this whiteboard is a great size and it's from target i feel like target had like the best quality one for probably the best price that i was able to find this print is from amazon this alice in wonderland print and i just really like that quote every adventure requires a first step so we have that in our room and the print like i said from amazon and the frame was another goodwill find pretty much all of my frames i either already had or they were secondhand this cross uh that's a fun story i got that in romania when i was on a mission trip and now it hangs in here that was gosh when i was 20 years old that was a long time ago now this jesus loves you and so do i is from goodwill that is another vintage printable that i found on pinterest for free that i was able to get printed out in a second hand frame i got this i think i would say i paid a couple bucks for this on etsy whatever you do do it all for the glory of god just a good reminder in the center of our wall of why we're learning and why we do all the things that we do this map of the united states was from amazon i forget the name of the company that does these prints but they do them so beautifully a lot of the prints that they do you can actually find for free though but i liked that this already came printed very nicely for me on good quality paper and was already hung so i just did it that way i found some amazing grace sheet music just by a quick google search and had it printed out and put in a secondhand frame this is a painting by grandma moses that i just printed out again put in a secondhand frame and i have a couple of new things over here this i found at mardell and i saw it and i just really loved it and it was on sale and i think the colors work great but sing to him a new song psalm 33 3. just really like that i like the birds this was from etsy i found that print on there i just thought it was fun to bring in some language this vintage print was from amazon i think if i would have dug a little bit more probably could have found it for free but that's okay i just went ahead and did that and again secondhand frame those are everywhere i want to say i looked all over the place for just what i wanted for a periodic table where i could find a free printable but i think i ended up spending a few bucks on etsy which was no big deal and then i got that printed out and then gotta have a shakespeare code in here and though she'd be but little she is fierce because i have two little girls so i love that i like the simplicity of it compared with like the busyness here every now and then i wanted just something kind of simple to balance it out and this was from hobby lobby i want to say and i just thought that was really beautiful and this is one of my favorite corners in the whole school room this is my dog piper and she can usually be found there she's always in here with us when we are doing our school day this was a facebook marketplace find and it's just a perfect cozy little spot i can sit with um or i can sit here and i can do my morning devotionals uh i do a lot of reading and the girl sit on the floor i have some pillows down in this corner that are just from ikea so the girls will pull those amount on synonym or use them to lean against the table or lay down and i have them tucked in this corner and underneath that is like my mama morning basket so it has the things i need for my morning my own morning time i have a little coaster here for a mug to keep my water handy in but i just love this spot and it's big enough where one of the girls can come sit up with me and we can read together and it's perfectly broken in and i just think the look of it really fit in perfectly and oh i think i skipped this this is our memory work area and we did do classical conversations in the fall and we are no longer in a community but there are certain things that we picked out of it so we still have been doing the timelines we have the timeline cards which we really love and then we are still memorizing um john 1. we were doing the latin but we've kind of lost interest in the latin if i'm being honest and we mainly just do the english and there's a song that goes with it every single week we do the history sentence i'm not super strict on the memorizing it but that is kind of the springboard for what we do in history that week and so then i go and get living books on the topic that the history sentence is on and we learn more about it and then we just kind of talk about the geographical landmarks and up here this is not a um classical conversations thing every week my church does their own devotional that they put out and bible study for the week and they have a kids component and the kids have a memory verse that they can work on and then they can come in and earn tokens if they remember stuff and we have different core competencies in my church and so every single week the message that we're learning goes along with one of our core competencies so i just kind of make this up so that's our memory board down here is where i keep a basket that has some random books for me a chromebook that i reach for every now and then the girls have some pointers that they like to do and we're doing memory work sometimes uh i have the girls tablets one of them isn't in here right now and then their headphones for their tablets my laptop lives here that's something we're looking at fixing i kind of would like to put a desk in this area and i found one on facebook marketplace we have it but i wanted to film this video first and then we'll see if it fits and see what we want to do um and we'll see you know how we can rearrange things but this is for now where we have a little bookshelf that keeps our library books and you can tell my kids have been in here earlier because they're all pushed back but this is kind of where i keep up and coming things i get a lot of books at a time we read many many many books and then this is where i put the things that we're working on now and not not all this is library books from here over is books that we just reach for a lot for our morning time and so they'll stay there and we're at the end of our week so there aren't very many library books here this is actually a reference book for me to go through but then i'll put the books from the library that we're going to be using for the week in this section as well so i'll pull from here and move them here and then you'll see in a minute the ones that we were going to use that day i moved to our morning basket so they're ready to go and then as i finish using our library books they go in this bag so that they're going to be ready to go to return and i don't have to go searching for library books all over the house they're already ready to go in that bag i think i forgot to mention under this chair yeah i just keep this little bin that slides out and it has a magnetic board with some magnets with letters and numbers and different word parts and all of that was a facebook marketplace find so we have a lot a lot a lot of secondhand finds in here all the baskets were second hand like it's the most the frames uh the furniture excuse me are not the furniture the bookcases were all new except this one this one i already had and we just repurposed it in this room so as i said this is our morning basket and this week we're doing easter so we're reading who was jesus and these are just the things we've been reaching for and it'll it'll change depending on what exactly we're doing this one we're actually done with so i need to put that back i just haven't done that yet this is the bible literacy stuff that we're doing right now so there's that we have an amazon echo which really comes in handy a lot of times i'll play classical music in the background and uh you know we can ask questions or whatever a plant and i really appreciate it i thought this was so serendipitous that my reference books just kind of fit perfectly in between my two window cells i thought that was just like perfect so that's their an essential oil diffuser which i rarely use because i always forget about it this i just moved i had something else here recently actually had this here and it was always falling down and i want to do something else with that but i just moved that there for now but i am quickly running out of space i have books here and here and here i need more bookshelf space but for now i went ahead and pulled out our poetry books and have them stacked here and i just love the pop of colors this was from africa when my husband went on a mission trip there and here is our little nature shelf that i want to hang probably over here in this space but for now like i said it was here kept getting knocked over we had it against the wall here before i get my got my school cart um and then obviously this it would be behind the school card so then we just moved it over here and not ideal so we're gonna get it moved i've also had it for months and i've planned for months to spray paint it black have the black spray paint i just legitimately don't think about it i have so many other things going on that just get moved up and important that i don't worry about it but the girls do loving love having a nature shelf that's been fun for them to collect different things and add to it i had to close this window because i was getting too much light to show what's here but my sister-in-law made a k in an r embroidery what is this called needlepoint embroidery whatever cute little things to go on our wall for kennedy and road and then i made this uh schoolhouse sign this is the name of our schoolhouse this has their last name and i'm old-fashioned and i don't put my last name on the internet so it's that just has painters tape over it but we put home of the wild hairs that's a mascot that we chose for ourselves because we have wild hairs in our neighborhood and we've had bunnies in our backyard before in our rosemary bush and so we thought it'd be fun to be the wild hairs okay moving on down here we have bins with various different things in them so in here i have mostly extra school supplies and then my paper cutter that i use semi-frequently and then and here we have random stuff for science experiments and things like that the beans we were using as counters at one point but they just got moved in there because we're not reaching for them anymore and here i have our osmo stuff and you can see my girls put this away last some different science flash cards and um just some extra little stuffed tan grams this had some extra stuff in my daughter's math curriculum that we're not reaching for anymore this numbers kit another tangram kit so just like math and science related stuff is mostly in there and then in here we have a lot of uh like language arts phonics reading related games so they're on here different manipulatives and games basically we have a plant there that needs some attention and we also have this beautiful grandfather clock that needs some attention it's not working currently it was working when we had it on our wood floor and when we moved it in here to the carpeted area we've had a really hard time getting it to continually work but it was inherited from caleb's grandfather and we just think it looks great in here it's beautiful but uh i really want to get it figured out to make it work because that would be even more special so now i'll change angles and i'll face this way and talk about this table for a moment this table has been perfect for this room this wide angle lens is probably making the space look a little bit larger than it is but it is not a super large room by any means and so this ikea table has worked out perfectly i thought about it for a long time was looking out on facebook marketplace for it wasn't finding it so went ahead and bought it new literally the next day somebody posted it on facebook marketplace so i had a friend that was interested in the table so she just paid me uh for the table and took our new one and i bought the old one and saved like 50 bucks and it's been great because it has like glue marks and marker on it and you know i'm not worried about it getting dinged up or anything like that because in a school room you know we're playing with paint and marker and glue and all sorts of stuff so i don't mind it getting beat up for the price that we paid for it so that's awesome it has been perfect the perfect size for this room and then i had bought myself this chair that it was a little bit larger secondhand as well from goodwill i think it was 550 uh but i want to invest in a little bit nicer of a chair because i'm noticing i'm getting some back pain so i feel like i need like an office chair or something like that you know i'm north of 30. so gotta take care of myself so we love this table above here this is another area that i just love how it turned out walking into this room and just seeing this just makes me so happy every morning i feel like this is a very joyful room that i just love so much so the map was from martell i want to say or hobby lobby you can get them at both places so i don't remember which of those i bought it at but i saw it on somebody's pinterest account in their school room and i was like oh my gosh i love i need it so i got it i wanted to do a world map anyway and was looking at different options and i just really really love this one i almost forgot to mention the dr seuss quote oh the places you'll go i just love it above the map i found it at mardel you can also find it at hobby lobby and then i got this lamp from target this little art man was secondhand from goodwill for like 1.79 and we have some books stacked under that i found this vintage book set for 25 at half-price books and they're just classic tales and i want to say i have these growing up through golden windows my parents don't hold on to anything so they wouldn't have them anymore but it just felt very nostalgic to me again that old school schoolhouse vibe that i really like and i love the colors of them and we can actually read for them from them so i appreciate that it's multifunctional a lot of the stuff in here i really had in mind that we could reference it and it wasn't just beautiful but it was something that we could potentially learn from so kind of kept that in mind as i was decorating this room and this is another thing i've been meaning to spray paint i as i mentioned where the wild tears so every now and then you'll see a little bunny in here and i want to spray paint this it's not quite so pastel i haven't done it yet and then i have this little thing that my daughter rowan got for her birthday for my sister so that looks super cute here and she uses it all the time little bunnies that i found to free print on on pinterest again that's another like vintage print that you can just print for free on top of some books we have a poetry book down there and the book of virtues my salt lamp a globe that i got on facebook marketplace and then another bunny for the wild tears and this is where we keep the bulk of our books i love books i love books i have accrued so many since we started homeschooling but i know that they're going to get used and i feel like for the most part money is never wasted on a book i shop secondhand for books constantly on ebay and thrift books and facebook marketplace and goodwill y'all books children's books at goodwill are 50 cents so do not sleep on goodwill i found curriculum books for 50 cents at goodwill so definitely definitely do some second-hand shopping definitely come in handy for me then i have my homeschool cart which has been a lifesaver once i started implementing this i'm so glad i did that i'm going to make a separate video about my homeschooling cart but i just love it and the card itself was 12 off facebook marketplace so there's that and then uh here's a print of jesus of course on palm sunday with a donkey and i just love this print and it's found a perfect home in here it's another thing like i love when the things that i have just feel so serendipitous like they feel like they belong in here that i had and i just felt like it was made to go in this room so i love that this was another hobby lobby find that i got on clearance up here of course we have our abc chart that is from mardel and numbers of course and this used to be a guest room so this mirror and shelf were hanging there when it was a guest room and we just kind of left it there we're like why not it's good to have mirrors in a room it reflects light i don't know if it's going to stay there when we do some revamping in here don't get me wrong i love this room there's just some elements that we want to add like the desk here and maybe some more storage in the closet so we're not doing a ton of revamping but um this may get some attention but i just have a little school bell that i found from goodwill and a little paint plant again that needs attention oh and i meant to turn this on be fancy for y'all i have just a little battery operated tea light in there this was in my grandparents house um and there wasn't very many things i took from them um when they passed away but they just had these little things that i loved and this is one of them that used to live on their shelf so i just love that little deer there and then here is a photo of my girls when we went to colorado oh you're getting a terrible reflection there we go and i just love that photo of them together and that chip was so fantastic we love colorado and again hooks on the doors because this used to be a guest room so there's that so let's go ahead and peek in the closet the best way to peek in the closet is to move my cart out of the way that's the only downside of having this there but it's like the perfect spot for it otherwise so moving it out of the way when i need to open it wide it's not a huge deal there is definitely a lot going on in here i did want to give you just a quick peek into it but this is another area that i feel like deserves its own video especially once i finish getting a little bit more organization in here that i feel that it needs but so far it's worked really great for us our needs have just changed a little bit i'm realizing different components that i need but uh yeah this is where where we are at currently in the closet so here is one more look from the opposite corner of where we started in the room i'll just kind of turn here and that is a school room i really hope you all enjoyed getting a peek into my school room i tried to be pretty thorough in the tour of it
