hey everyone so i'm here with the curriculum choices we made for the 2021-2022 school year um we do school year-round so we just had a two-week break so tomorrow we will be jumping into our summer schedule so um very quickly what i have planned for that is basically my kids will just be finishing up um or working on some of the lessons that we didn't get done um last year so for my daughter she was in kindergarten she will be going into first grade so we did a becca for both math and phonics now with math she is really skilled with numbers she doesn't seem to have much of an issue and so she only has i think eight lessons left in this so this will not last her very long over the summer um so when she's done with this we'll probably jump straight into her new books but when it comes to phonics she did struggle a lot last year i've personally i'm a huge fan of a becca especially in the early years i think they have an amazing phonics program for teaching children how to read but my little girl she just developmentally she struggled so we started off great but it advanced really really fast so um we only made it to lesson 135 and there's 170 lessons so what i did was i got her some explode the codes to supplement and when she would start struggling in this book i would get these out and so these would be her lessons for the day i would print stuff off online and um when she seemed to be kind of not struggling so much we would jump back into rebecca now it has gotten to the point now to where she does seem to be doing well with rebecca i tried doubling up on the lessons but that started going too fast again so i backed off and we're just going to go at her pace and so we're going to work on this over the summer i don't know if she'll finish it before the official start of first grade which of course in homeschool you know you you have the ability to go at your child's pace so if she doesn't she'll just finish it up at the beginning of her first grade year before she goes into the actual first grade books so but for her for first grade we are going to continue on with rebecca at least in the math and phonics so this will be her math book and my son used this he did really well and then i also got the test and speed drills and then for phonics she will um continue on with a becca so my son did well with these and he was able to do both pages and days so this is kind of the page that goes along with the lesson plan and then this is kind of additional seat work to reinforce it with amity i don't know if she's going to be able to do both of these at a day i may just have to mix and match i may have to eliminate this some days i'm just going to have to trial and error with her to see what works with her and what does it um and then the i did get the test for her and then i do have the abeca readers because my son did all this last year still working on some of it and i do have the rebecca readers um but again these may be a little advanced for her but i don't know i mean she is doing really good she is really improving at a very fast pace right now so by the time she's done with the k5 book she may be ready for these readers i also got her i don't know how much we'll do this but i thought i would try it because it was only three dollars so if it doesn't work then it's not that big a deal but this is just um a book that there's a link to listen to someone read the story and you follow along and then there's activities you can do to kind to to kind of gauge whether or not they're comprehending what they're reading slash listening to so i got this for i thought this might be fun for her to maybe break up the monotony if this gets to you know she's having a week where she's really struggling with this we may be able to get this out get her explode the codes out and you know kind of just have a more laid back approach for a few days and then pick up a becca again for spelling i am not a huge fan of the spelling program um it i understand that the spelling words they choose like reinforced the special sounds that they teach but i don't know to me it just went it just it just picked up really really fast so for my son he did this last year i would i got to where i would just pick and choose i would not make him do all of the spelling i would just pick five or six spelling words from the list and have him work on those i think we're going to try spelling with him again this year but if the becca spelling with him again this year but if it does not work out i may be looking for something else for third grade so that i believe is all of her individual subjects now for my son he did a becca math and language last year and he has about 25 lessons left in these and so we'll be picking these back up tomorrow and he shouldn't have any issue getting these done over the summer and i purposely quote unquote didn't finish before we took our break um i kind of got to the point with him where it was there's a few new concepts introduced but it is mainly review just for us to work on over the summer i don't like taking a long summer break we do a lot better with a routine they do a lot better with some kind of school even these even just two weeks off i've seen to notice like a little of um especially with my daughter like she'll ask me a question that i know she knows the answer to she's like i don't know so i'm looking forward to getting back to doing just a little bit of school today and we may pick in tuesdays there may be a day that we do language arts and then the next day we do math you know we're not going to do everything every other day it's just kind of a lot summer schedule to just try to you know prevent as much of that summer slide as we can so oh and for handwriting um last year they both did do a becca handwriting but this year i'm moving them both to the good and the beautiful my son will be doing level three and my daughter will be doing level one but i don't have those because i bought the digital download so that i could basically pay for it once and just print off for her each year i only had to buy it once and then i can print for her each year but i have not printed those off yet so i do not have those yet so for my son we will be continuing in the phonics and language and this is just one book where the other the other one had to this one just has one one um but where the other one it's really it's the same amount of work because the these two right here you would do this page and then this page and then the next day you would do the back of both pages so in this book it's just front and back so one book but not as many pages and then all he also got the test for that and then in math he will be continuing on with a becca and so he has done really really well in both his math and his reading i am just thrilled with the reading he is doing i got to touch with that and then i also picked up the reading comprehension skill sheets and also the spelling now this is an old spelling book but this was actually given to me so um i did not purchase it so that's why it's an older edition but it's practically brand new so he'll be able to work in that and then we'll see how it goes like i said i'm not based on last year i'm not 100 sold on the becca spelling program but i want to give it another year and we'll see how it goes this year so when i got my daughter the explode the codes my son saw that she was working in what he called a fun book and he wanted a fun book too so he's a huge minecraft person he loves everything minecraft he loves the game he loves the legos he loves the books the unofficial minecraft books they write about the characters he reads those all the time so i found this and it's just the great big fun workbook for minecraft grades one and two and it just reinforces things like addition subtraction there's story problems some things i noticed when he first got it he would get frustrated because he hadn't learned learned it yet but then as we've as he learns it in his curriculum then he's went back and he's been able to do things these are his favorite the ones with the jokes where you have to find the answer to the riddle or the joke so and so sometimes he'll just pick this up and choose to work on this and for seat work if i'm working with his sister and need him to keep himself busy for a little while he'll just grab this and just pick a couple pages to do so i believe that is it for their individual subjects now for combined subjects so for science last year we did attempted this this was a huge miss for our family we did not even finish the first book we got about halfway through it i'm going to attempt to pick it back up again over the summer and just do it as i read aloud i may not have them do the lap books just because i bought it and i hate to feel like i wasted money by buying it and not finishing it but it i love the concept of this i love the concept of learning science through literature through stories through a novel but i just was not impressed with the writing part of this this to me was very boring it did not hold my kids attentions the chapters are really long and it's just kind of dry the information is presented in a very dry way so we will not be continuing the the um the sassafras adventures but like i said i am going to attempt just over the summer to finish it as a read aloud and then i'll give them the option to do the additional lab books if they want to so for science next year we are going to try the good and the beautiful so i actually have four units i have water in our world and energy uh they had a cell on these and when i checked before doing this video they still had these in stock they were 4.99 each plus shipping which is an amazing deal because this one was originally like 37 i do believe they're updating them i'm not sure how much of an update they're going to do but if you want a good deal you know you can get the older version or if you want to wait for the new updated version now they do come unbound and so i just bought some page protectors and then what i can do is i can slip out these pages that need to be cut for their projects and make copies and then just slip them back in here and he you know keep all nice and neat and pretty so i have water in our world and energy which i bought the physical copies on sale but i also have space and marine biology which for free digital downloads i have not printed those out yet i want to do water in our world first so i plan to finish this one and then i'm not sure which one we'll do next i think you're supposed to do like two to four of these a year but we don't we do not do science every day so we may get through two so that's for science now for history um the ibeka book which i didn't get out it was it was cute but it just wasn't i just did i felt like it wasn't enough so i just started getting books so we did a lot of who was books i just grabbed a couple um who was george washington who was robert e lee i really really like the i survived books um so the american revolution the nazi invasion the seeking of the titanic we also did i survived the battle of gettysburg um my son showed an interest in the civil war at one point so i got i survived the battle gettysburg you know who was robbery lee who was julius s grant who was abraham lincoln you know and i got some books on like harriet tubman things like that and we just did our own little unit of the civil war until he lost interest and we moved on to something else and then i also have some of these last step into reading you know for him to read aloud to me so and again i just grabbed one of those so this was our history last year so this year i wanted something a little more structured i have heard amazing things about not grass so i picked up our 50 states because it was um it was on sale so not much of a sale at all but it was on sale so i went with this one versus our star-spangled banner but if we really like this then i'm hoping to do the other one next year so if this is just a lovely look from what little i've seen it's just i love the pictures it's presented in a very interesting manner i hope it keeps their attention and then also with this it comes with the atlas workbook so that will be fun the answer key and literature to god and the lesson review and so i also bought the literature pack that goes with this i thought about just getting the list of these and trying to you know kind of buy them used to save a little bit of money but you know from a books thrift books but in the end it i don't know if i'm getting older or what but it seems like sometimes it just is worth the little bit of extra money to just save myself the headache in trouble um i went through that with my kids a becca curriculum year before last i bought all the lesson plans used and this year i don't know if it's the influx of homeschooling but not a lot of people were selling you stuff and they wanted as much reviews as new and so i ended up just buying all the curriculum plans and teacher book news straight from rebecca with free shipping and i knew i wouldn't i was getting new stuff versus last year i would buy stuff listed as light new and it would have pages torn out or writing and highlighting but anyway so i went ahead and just bought the um the literature pack it came with one two three four six seven bucks and i think it was like thirty dollars and because i bought this it came with free shipping so to me it was just it was worth it you know um because i started looking at these books used online and they were anywhere from like three to five dollars some of them are even more because some of them i guess i don't know if they were hard to find or more desirable or what but anyway when i did the math i would have ended up saving like five dollars so i just went ahead and bought the new pack so um to go with the 50 states there's the story of george washington carver the adventures of patty and beaver phillip of texas the trumpet of the swan i remember this book from when i was in school soft rain a story of the cherokee trail of tears there will i will probably try during this one the cabin faced west and rabbit hill so so far that is our plan for the upcoming school year thank you guys so much for watching and i will talk to y'all later bye
