Homeless say several cats missing after Caltrans sweep of encampment

all day, people have been sifting through the homeless encampment that used to be here . The Caltrans sweep on Branham Lane in San Jose didn't leave much behind. But it's not the lost clothes or documents. Christopher Scott is worried about. It's the cats horrified. I don't know where my cat is. My cat's gone. It was in a kennel with my stuff and they threw it all the way. His cat is missing. So are Stephen Keys, a mother and three kittens. Stephanie's tent was bulldozed while he was at work. One said, It looks like the machine. The machine might have killed one of them. I don't know. I wasn't here. This comes days after a big effort to help the encampments. Cats sad. Today, the Unhoused Response group and Humane Society collected eight of them to be fixed, chipped and given their shots, they were returned and were supposed to be recovering dead. Everyone got swept today and some of the cats and kittens are missing and the kittens were only three months old. Caltrans released a statement saying they followed protocol providing 72 hours notice of the sweep. They add Caltrans does not remove any pets. Residents did save some. A few others could be heard mewing in the bushes. I'm hoping you're back in a gated area or down the long freeway, hopefully hiding away from the cars to still at least five cats are unaccounted for. Christopher Scott is heartbroken in cats. Everything to me, man, I'm a homeless guy. You know what I mean? I'm homeless. I mean, I don't have anybody. That's it. That's what I have.
