okay okay i'll leave it to the master cause it's tool time beginning in 1991 and spanning eight seasons home improvement gave us entertainment and laughs al i was gonna get to that along with helpful home tips mostly what not to do truly a family-based sitcom for the entire family with a terrific all-around cast tim allen really hammered it in and it was one of the highest rated sitcoms of the entire decade there's even talk of a possible reboot but we'll get to that i'm nostalgic nick for do you remember and today we're revisiting the cast of home improvement to see what they got into personal favorite sitcoms for us to cover next okay we're live tim allen tim the tool man taylor the accident prone patriarch who spends his time working in his garage on a gorgeous hot rod or filming his tool time program or just tossing the pigskin with his boys in the yard you want us to run a play um tim allen was a slapstick genius in this show whether losing control of a power saw or getting electrocuted by basically anything it was always fun to watch him get hurt tim allen moved to la in the early 80s but didn't make it big until he became tim the tool man in 1991 for one week in november 1994 while home improvement was number one in the nielsen ratings his first film venture the santa claus was the number one movie at the box office and allen's book don't stand too close to a naked man was a new york times number one bestseller what a week the following year in 95 he went out of this world as buzz lightyear in toy story you are a sad strange little man and you have my pity farewell which sent his career to infinity and beyond then he continued making great family-friendly films like 1997's jungle to jungle and 99's galaxy quest allen's life hasn't always been smooth sailing though in 1978 before his big move to hollywood he was busted for drug trafficking arrested in a michigan airport with one and a half pounds of cocaine allen provided the names of other dealers in exchange for three to seven years rather than a possible life sentence he made parole in 1981 after serving two years and four months then in 1997 tim was charged with drunken driving back home near detroit in his 1988 ferrari he landed on probation and thankfully has been sober ever since and karma has awarded tim another smash hit tv show last man standing which has spanned nine seasons today he's in his late 60s and is working on a new show called assembly required with home improvement co-star richard carr we still got it man at least i do you got something heck yeah patricia richardson jill taylor is a great mom and is often seen as the voice of reason to her husband even if that sometimes ends up in arguments so you're an equal opportunity idiot originally frances fisher was cast as jill taylor but while rehearsing the pilot audiences reacted poorly saying her jill was too serious she was replaced with richardson just four days before the pilot taped patricia's career began in 1979 but she didn't have a recurring role until her eight episodes on 1984's double trouble next up she was a series regular in the short-lived scott bakula led eisenhower and lutz in 88 following her home improvement success richardson joined the lifetime medical drama strong medicine and stayed for 59 episodes she even reunited with tim allen in two episodes of last man standing you do look vaguely familiar we last saw her in the 2019 lifetime flick a very vintage christmas today she is 70 years old and enjoying life as a grandmother taryn noah smith mark taylor is the youngest and often the victim of pranks and jokes but he goes goth in the later seasons which was interesting mark wearing black lipstick it goes with everything taryn noah smith didn't do much acting besides this he stated quote i never had the chance to decide what i wanted to do with my life when i was 16 i knew that i didn't want to act anymore when smith turned 18 he accused his parents of squandering his 1.5 million trust fund he gained control of his estate but later withdrew his statements understanding that his parents were just trying to protect him and his money in 2001 at age 17 smith married vegan chef heidi van pelt which sparked some controversy as van pelt was 16 years older the couple divorced after six years of marriage today smith is 36 years old and works as the technical manager for the community submersibles project teaching people how to pilot submarines you're saving the world in other words working on it richard karn al borland is tim's serious and knowledgeable assistant and probably closest friend always sporting his flannel which becomes the butt of tim's jokes you know tim one of these days you're gonna run out of flannel jokes oh i don't think so well not with my complete final joke book originally actor stephen tobolowski was the choice for al borland but due to a film commitment richard karn got the part after filming four episodes borland is seen wearing a wedding ring although the character is unmarried that's because in real life richard karn is married to tootie roche who had a recurring role as jill's sister carrie aside from home improvement we got to spend more time with al as he became the fourth host of family feud from 2002 to 2006 and he's still acting most recently as fred peters in the popular hulu show pin 15. he's also working with tim allen on their new history channel show assembly required richard is 65 years old and when he's not acting he's spending time with his wife and son and fiercely rooting for his arkansas razorbacks zachary ty brian brad taylor is the soccer star the athletic big brother and while all three are fairly mischievous brad is the only one to have a run-in with the law are you gonna cuff this fragrant jail upstairs zachary's other best known role is in 2006's the fast and the furious tokyo drift the last time he acted was in 2009 in the sci-fi tv movie thor hammer of the gods he certainly looks like thor recently brian has gotten himself into some problems with the law arrested one of the stars of 90 sitcom home improvement in 2020 just two weeks after splitting from his wife of 14 years he was charged with felony strangulation and misdemeanor charges of 4th degree assault of apparently his new girlfriend many of the charges were dropped but he pled guilty to two felony charges zachary is 39 and we wish him the best of getting his life back on track debbie dunning heidi keppert was the second tool girl after lisa left the show to go to college dunning had big shoes to fill i want y'all to say howdy to heidi as lisa was pamela anderson's breakout role and naturally a fan favorite anderson left the show to focus on her smash hit baywatch ashley judd originally landed the part of lisa but due to agent pressure to lean into movies she backed out just days before filming the pilot debbie dunning did a great job replacing the irreplaceable pamela for seasons three through nine her next largest role was in 2006 with seven episodes of wicked wicked games then she used her tool time experience to land a host and producing job for 2017's debbie dunning's dude ranch roundup today she's in her mid-50s and from 97 to 2018 she was married to american volleyball player steve timmons with whom she had three children earl hindman wilson w wilson is the man behind the fence and the best halloween costume ever he was the family's friendly and wise neighbor who served as tim taylor's confidant and always gave the best advice a great lover is one who romances the same woman for a lifetime i had something about him there was so much mystery behind what his whole face looked like they kept it up at curtain calls and earl would come out and bow holding a miniature picket fence the finale's curtain call made the reveal that much more exciting hindman began acting in 1967 and wasn't always the nice guy next door in 1974 he played villains in two big budget thrillers the parallax of view starring warren beatty and the taking of pelham one two three in 1976 hindman married molly mcgreevy and the following year the two acted together on ryan's hope this is where most people remember hindman as bob reed in nearly 500 episodes of that popular so his wilson was one of his final roles being a longtime smoker hindman was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2003 and died that year at the age of 61. jonathan taylor thomas randy taylor is the middle child who is adorable and sweet yet still a tad mischievous stealing cookies from jill's stash or taking a cigar from tim's drawer cool where'd you get that dad's sock door he's got a whole box jtt's career began in 1990 playing the role of kevin brady the son of greg brady on the tastes like chicken slimy it's satisfying then he began starring in some live-action films highlighted by his tom sawyer in 1995's tom and huck and then in 1998 he was great in the fun holiday film i'll be home for christmas maybe i should just go with it so what happened after all that 90s success well he enrolled at harvard university where he studied philosophy and history in 2010 he graduated from columbia university school of general studies the last time we saw thomas act was back alongside dad on tim allen's last man standing for four episodes last in 2015 jtt is 39 years old and has been a vegetarian for most of his life he keeps his life very private completely staying off social media what a fantastic 90s sitcom too bad tim allen didn't accept his 50 million dollars to do a 9th season patricia richardson was in line for 25 million but maybe we'll get a reboot one day tim allen was recently quoted saying we've talked about it i'd love to see where al and tim are
