Flor was lower down a foot over four days heavy rain half parties the floor was a half inch to an inch of water I should've been an interior week in town system this this I'm pissed right off this is this is absolutely ridiculous we have electrical and applause we have electrical and lights with weights and a lifeline is actually my dangerous these these guys should be out of business they should be in this business man we're seeing all kinds of things this is not just a leak Michaels can they actually do this I love my job well essentially we wanted to create more living space ourselves without moving so we decided to look into dropping the basement floor because it wasn't high enough for anyone over five six to stand up straight the floor was lowered down a foot all new studying all new plumbing all new electrical should be a simple straightforward job we had made a few phone calls we had a few several people come in look at the basement making give us quotes on the job as well and he came at a decent price and was recommended what he was talking about based on what we heard from other people used all the same terms and explanation for what needed to be done so we got three different quotes from different contractors ranging from 15,000 right up to $55,000 they settled for 15,000 the lowest price given that he came with recommendation from a place that we frequent off and we thought sound a pretty good flooring a basement underpinning the wall to the point of studying electrical plumbing is probably in the area of about $30,000 about two weeks after the job was finished um week for about four days heavy rains and on the second day of that we came down and found a few small puddles along the wall and of course I was arraigned for another two days they just kind of brew and melded together until we had a continuous half of our basement floor was so half an inch to an inch of water the rain came along this wall c'mon try to that and was done all over France as well did you notice the water coming down under pink yeah the bathroom area we did what we had on paper I guarantee we will not have any more problems for two years from the date of completion of course as soon as the water started coming in Jeff started calling him and that we're not of a series of leading her to three messages a day for a week and we never heard this is a common problem this happens quite a bit a lot of people out they are going to call in a lot of contractors I don't know what they're doing what do they see about an answer every child if they say anything about that we had specifically requested that be included he says no problem no problem the problem then once the cement was gone and it's just dirt he said we've done a moisture test your soil you don't need it now no moisture content of your soil that's one type of moisture technically we should have been in Syria we can tile system all the way around and I back into the drain and it just goes outside it's a black sort of like a car okay don't come off the wall it'll wrap over the edge and continue up and the idea for this is that if it does leak comes in behind it down into the floor and down into we can come never have water in the basement it just continues to go up yeah pulling on the wall this is absolutely incorrect this is an outside product and exterior product and not an interior product it's full of chemicals we do not want this on the inside of the house what this is going to do is repel water rather than letting the wall absorb it and naturally letting it breathe and dry out we did ask for references which he gave us and we spoke to them by phone but we didn't go and see the jobs it was only two which clearly isn't enough these contractors they don't care it's not theirs you know that let's get in here let's let's do the work let's go home and not my house as soon as we look at it we can see that it's rain I would be the highest point of the floor here now water is not gonna float this is I think it's probably a good idea to maybe stay in here just in case it is a little wet in here but there is no bathroom preventer so ever the water system that flooded outside water coming from here right up the $20 a time a backflow preventor that you can't even mention to you know did you get a permit comes John no actually he's a he was very much the opposite encouraging that we cannot require a permit for this truck you need a permit to lower your basement you need a permit for any electrical you need a permit for the plumbing in actual facts you need a three permits here so I don't make a study at all well we see right off the bat is we have no Kingston - no Jax that's by the window let's obstruction we do it right just assigned us around the window the way I see it is very sloppy this should have been contained out from the bottom plate right up to here I don't like it that they built it so far away from the wall here how did you intend to you know insulate this you want to put a bad insulation in between the studs with so much insulation in the back this should have been a small needle so we're gonna build a small 2x4 wall here then we'll curve it in and bring the wall as close as we can to the existing wall I want to talk about this electrical bit because I don't like what I see there is no wire clips to the board whatsoever you don't have where hang in it like this and it's not clipped in all these boxes up here are junction points can you see that there's another one there's another one here I see them all over the place legally you can't close that in so you gonna drywall over this you're gonna close in junction points that have to be accessible so what he should have done was clean this right up take it all out bring it wire it direct to the panel and inspector came in he's gonna say since this is opening you're doing work I want this old knob-and-tube gone not been to this old aluminum wire which they run a hotline throughout the house and then Econoline throughout the house look at these wires here right over the front of the plate the top plate what are you gonna do plaintiff I will that and these alive you know what are gonna do no good this look at this I'm sorry I mean fine pull that down okay I just actually try to move time this is not a way to close in ductwork let's take hold of the thoughts that I see oh that's a video of our team so the first contractor to help you men into the cages of rooms and at least we got you don't punch holes here this is garbage this is absolutely no good as gotta come down what we're gonna do is gonna take down all this study this way still lumber unfortunately we're gonna redo all this we're gonna cut open the floor and we're going to put in an interior weeping tile system here we're gonna bring in a licensed electrician and we're going to clean all this wiring up bring it back you take a look at it and see how it should have been done in the first place we'll make it right excellent thank you all right this is miss strapping is actually good absolutely good person nothing it was pretty much a continuous low bar all along Peters border should be a simple straightforward job came at a decent price he took the Lois clothing we're gonna redo all this we're gonna cut open the floor and we're going to put in an interior weeping tile system here okay well move the drywall over here remove the door we're gonna take down all this honey we're gonna leave the studying up around the furnace somebody wants to start taking down this that's fine that's got to come down this this strapping is actually good absolutely good for nothing look at this one bring the nail yeah I love that honey vanilla not even nail yeah I'm pissed right off this is this is absolutely ridiculous I've traced on the electrical here and all I'm finding is live lines everywhere improper junctions it has shorted against the panel you see that you can see where it just touched the metal here and it's shorted what's the wiring that's pulling very tight against the l16 and that can create a short that's why it has to clip so close to the box just hanging down from live connections live connections three more over here improper junctions and this is supposed to be finished we have electoral on the plugs we have electrical and lights with way too many live lines it's actually quite dangerous this is bad this is a guy that just come in get eight hundred bucks cash whatever you charged and get the hell out these these guys should be out of business they shouldn't be in this business man we're seeing all kinds of things this is not just a leak first thing we do jackhammer open-air floor takedown about 12 inches and get ready to put it out we can come around the other side of the wall we're bringing in the low end of the stone and some concrete sands to make a mixture downstairs we're gonna use this in the basement for the weeping tile we gotta go by hand okay get the truck in there rain we want to get it on the plastics get it covered before before rains we don't want this concrete thing getting wet keep it nice and fried we're a little delayed we got the rain happening here we wanted to get the sleeping tile in and I think we're gonna wait a bit to see if it's table honestly I am a little bit down because it's as if these this couple in this house has attracted all the bad contractors having a contractor screw somebody like this and closes business and then in the very same day open up in a new name and just continue to do it to somebody else definitely a blessing in disguise that they did not have this job finished we would have actually had to pull everything down to do this again John McCrae the general are doing the specialist on a waterproofing was a real probe did you believe how bad this is can you see this well it's pretty quickly done not much experience here that's for sure what do you think about the end of underpinning people should never be doing stuff like this without building permits an inspector would've came and said nope sorry can't be done not gonna happen and far too often when contractors are working under those circumstances where there is nobody else watching them they will do stuff like this it's still called weeping tile but it's not entire functions anymore and it's totally changed now it is a long plastic tube covered in a sock and the sock helps keep it there and as this filters out the debris from getting inside and just allowing the water in which ties right back into the drain and goes out through the system I will cut it in about 28 inches 0.8 ya power laying in the plantain which is the a hard black coal planter and what this is going to do is grab the water behind the underpinning and down to the walk to the weeping tom which will really give us what we need a flood free basement we're going to drill it pilot drill it or the concrete nails right and smash the concrete nails in if we pilot drill it it helps keep it from cracking it's just holds it in place well backfill up with a little bit of dirt just to level off the weakened tile system throughout the perimeter then we'll fill it with 3/4 crushed gravel stone and this will act as a drainage bed to get into the weeping tile so allow the water to track out good dream luckily it is about they did not glue now suppose something this is the drain of the shower well because this is not glued and it constantly as its draining and pressing back week into the floor cementing a lot of guys will just backfill it in and be rather rather sloppy about it because ever they don't care about it they know that it's even covered with carpet ceramic head let's be serious if you just smooth that out it's hide into the existing floor it looks a hell of a lot better keep it wet everyone to blend it in Oh so we have a nice joint okay walk me outside and definitely I would like to recommend to them to pull up the walkway because a lot of the walkway actually runs into the house so when it rains and comes off the East drop it's gonna pour down and against the house and you want to direct the water away from the house sure I would definitely recommend to them that they regraded with new cement there is a drain out there so if somebody comes in in between the two houses and pours in a new pad they'll just actually pour it in so that it's valley towards the center and it runs the water to the drain just how they left it they don't see everything centers at all anywhere just great book guys we have one hour and a half for my studio the sidewalk is exactly what we want to show we'd have to when it comes out on the outside wall and when all our crowns the same way we don't have the same way we have a crown out and a crown and mantle but walnut goes like this thank you comin sandy I think you're gonna be a little bit what do you think wow you want to conceal baggage here is this how they left it yeah you're home connectors we'll have to take all these these boxes out in a more accessible pick it up clean it up make sure everything passes let's look like a mess for you yeah this guy wasn't wasn't doing his job well we want this biz to be on the breaker side I think should really have any connections in here except for the ground really the consumer shouldn't be in this end of the the panel should be in this end either really but they don't seem to have used any connectors at all anywhere no he definitely he definitely hasn't done this to me code is just very typical of the garbage you see especially the way this guy's done it with no grounding if a box becomes energized you're the route back to ground right it's like get electrocuted I'll have to basically start carrying out a lot of the wiring that's here just to find out where it's going we don't know what's on there now to play a lot of these old poems they would have to three circuits of that we do the whole house right we want to meet the code we want any more than 12 devices on that circuit see this fellow hearing if where'd you get grounded use connectors that connection comes after a few years that's not 1g 420 course wow that's gotta be new we have one hour and a half before it might get here we gotta go on a move Ranger Boats were anywhere 15,000 55,000 if I'm recording this job it should be in the area of a boat I say $30,000 or the structure the plumbing the electrical I would've been ready for them the drywall no no surprises there would have been no accident panels anywhere in the way the client wants to finish it himself to save some money so they're gonna do the drywall and all the priming plastering and painting if we do the whole job you're definitely a 50,000 for my job to go in put in the new interior weeping tile systems take out all that old studying putting some new studying fix all the electrical nonprofits so all they have to do to drywall I think that we all stay on the move they'll walk into a clean finished basement there's no further derecho so we'll get going on the cleaning honestly I mean they're gonna be flabbergasted this is a big difference between just a small difference is large okay done um done any one more nail yet Shawn already done over there I'm extremely obvious with the installed put a few pros together and you'll see if done properly if I'm how can I know if they're going I just wish it up oh yeah much better through difference it's dry volatile that's great it is it is that meaner one this gentleman over here is the best guy in the world sandy Jeff amore I gotta say if your electrical all the middle wire come down separate everything was both on the panel co-host is all reverted and done properly we have to leave some judge boxes where you'll have to leave an access hole here all you've got me talking about shows about to the new concrete that we poured here's different color than the existing and this is still curing it takes approximately 30 days for cure have behind our Irving section here we have the plantain which comes up and runs in behind so when the water does if it does come in it comes down to behind the plantain down underneath and then it's absorbed up into the philippine town lineage 22 the dream the bathroom we had level and swear g walls we give you proper doorways which we have a king stud to jack stud and a proper top while you're ready for installation vapor barrier and will you go to drywall you know in please type it's not a fully or in a way yeah this is unbelievable it's a totally new basement now you're welcome it's for the pleasure going here we're very lucky honestly thank to all of you are just oh yeah you're welcome god I love my job just standing there and watching them smile that really just makes my day overwhelmed huge T relieved we had no idea what scope of the problem was this could have been covered in and the craziest thing about this is had you know had these dummies of put in an insert weeping style system nobody would have known that the electrical was totally wrong we're talking about an electrical problem that could have and more than likely would have Bertha sounds down to the ground that's the biggest shocker I guess is it was not enough to find water coming in a basement but now I'm just disgusted and scared by how bad it really was and we really never would have known I think it's very important to get a permit because in a way if you want to look at it you're getting a second opinion your contractor is telling you one thing where an inspector will tell you the right thing if you don't like the way your job is going if you think there's something wrong you can call the government to come and inspect the job just because the contractor didn't get it understand this the contractors responsible for the permits not the client and if you want to save some grief get a permit you
