HO Unstoppable Locomotive Unboxing - AWVR 777

well folks in today's video we're gonna be unboxing something pretty unusual a few weeks ago I was browsing eBay and I came across a lot featuring two Athen locomotives one of which was aw VR 777 and the other was awvvr 767 and if you recognize those two Road numbers and railroads they were actually in the 2010 movie Unstoppable and Unstoppable is a pretty cool movie if you haven't seen it it's basically about a runaway train it's super unrealistic but I really enjoyed it I actually went to go see it in theaters with my dad back in the day I was like nine years old and it's pretty fun if you just want a Cheesy action movie with some trains in it it's definitely something you'll enjoy but anyways I've always wanted an HO scale model of the two locomotives and I managed to find them so I outbid everybody ended up winning the auction and here they are so we're going to unbox them today and see what exactly I've got here I don't really know what to expect these are homemade models but they should run bathrooms they're pretty tough and uh yeah we'll have some fun take them out on the layout so let's see what we've got here foreign so here are the two locomotives I think we'll start with what I believe is triple seven I'm just trying to judge the paint kind of through the packaging though so don't quote me on that anyways we'll get this thing out of the wrapping and see what we've got here I I can't tell you if I got this thing as a kid I would have flipped but even all these years later this is still uh such a cool locomotive to finally have and uh overall the uh work with the decals doesn't seem too bad the handrails are painted those look pretty nice I mean there's there's a few little spots here and there which aren't perfect but uh it doesn't really bother me so yeah there it is aw VR triple seven the lead locomotive and Unstoppable very cool now let's get the other one out foreign there it is uh all complete I really like the paint Scheme on this one I might even prefer it over triple seven I don't know just uh well they're both great I don't know but uh it's kind of funny that they decided to paint them both a little bit different in the movie you can kind of see a bit of inspiration that the movie creators must have got from other railroads like you know this looks very similar to what the Santa Fe had um but with the red I guess you could kind of say that's Canadian Pacific or Canadian national I believe these were Canadian Pacific locomotives which were used in the movie obviously repainted um but uh yeah it's interesting what they came up with I think it looks really cool though I'm really excited to see how these things look going around my layout for the first time I mean as I said I've really wanted one of these locomotives for quite a long time now so it's amazing after 12 years to finally actually have one and I'm not expecting anything too wild performance wise I mean there are a couple of old author and locomotives so they don't have like DCC or anything like that but still they're Athens they're known for being super reliable so I think that these things should run for quite a long time trouble free and I mean just look at that it's a pretty awesome looking train anyways let's give this thing some power and see how it goes here yeah check it out yeah that looks absolutely awesome I mean it really they look exactly like they did in the movie I know they're not perfectly prototypical but especially from a distance that's pretty darn good so as far as the paintwork goes I think that they're both great but the seller wasn't lying about the light being pretty dim so I think we're gonna have to fix that so we'll let it go around and we'll take it over to the bench so I've been working on these atheron locomotives long enough to know that they include this cover over the light which restricts how much light can actually flow out of the locomotive I really don't know why they put these things in place because I don't find that they actually make much of a difference realism-wise so we're gonna go in there and remove that I think it should make the world of difference that's right here's the problem I think that they put this piece in place just to help prevent the light from glowing through the plastic but I find that when you remove that the plastic's so thick on these Athens it's not usually a problem and if it is you could just put a bit of tape here which will fix that but you'll gain a much brighter headlight this little section right here for the door will be lit up and you'll actually get a slightly lit cab so in my opinion it's a major Improvement I'll take it over to the track without reinstalling the couplers just so we can make sure that the light all looks good and see much of a difference that actually makes I'll switch this over to DCC just to show you and uh yeah as you can see it makes a pretty big difference I think that that's a lot better and we'll go get those couplers reinstalled and it'd be nice to maybe add a cow catcher on the front because that's really the only thing these two locomotives are missing so a while back I bought a Walters locomotive and it came with these two spare cow catchers so I think we'll put those on there I have no idea if these are the right size so there's probably going to be some people out there who are not very happy about me putting these on these locomotives but in my opinion it's better than nothing so I think what we'll do is we'll mask these up and throw some paint on there and I think it should look at least decent I don't know we'll just try it out why not foreign well I got the two uh cow catchers done they didn't turn out perfectly but I think they should be good enough I'm happy with them they can always be changed later if needed and I'm just gonna try to get them attached now they've got these two pegs on the back so I think what we need to do is burn a couple holes into the locomotive to actually hold this all in place and uh yeah I think it should be good just gotta figure out where exactly those holes are gonna go I think it's going to be either side of the coupler box all right I think these two locomotives are ready to be brought over to the track and maybe even pull a train yeah I think that those locomotives are looking a little better now anyway let's see yeah all good so look at that BNSF off the main line there and we'll uh go find some cars for these locomotives to pull now foreign [Applause] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Applause] [Music] [Music] the collection you know it's got those new cow catchers on the headlight all sorted out I think it completely completed these things and uh yeah I'm just happy to have some locomotives out of one of my favorite movies finally on the layout after so many years I suspect that they're going to be uh popular items during live streams as well but only time will tell for that anyways with that I just
