the sea season for the side winders who were led by head coach darius kelly and on the offensive side of the ball for the side winders running back tk mack leads the way yeah tk was an absolute stud in high school alex he rushed for 2087 yards in his high school career in atlanta he averaged 8.4 yards per carry 189.7 yards per game and had 33 rushing touchdowns 34 total touchdowns and for arizona christian they're excited to debut their spread offensive tack yeah it's going to be led by quarterback trey john shouted he's an upperclassman he's been in his offense before coach rick johnson is night here in tucson arizona in the desert the captains are on the field ready for the coin toss now and the sidewinders will receive the ball looking forward to a fantastic ball game tonight on the offensive side of the football for the sidewinders they're led by quarterback telon palmer you'll hear a lot about him tonight he's a 510 195 pound quarterback someone who needs to lead this offense if they want to have success tonight throwing the ball accurately staying calm in the pocket are two keys that he needs to bring to the table for the sideliners to be successful the sidewinders are going to receive first here to start the hjcac season and we have quite a few fans on our hands around us alex today in the booth this is fantastic to see a lot of people here watching football watching their kids play today gerald hempel cornerback for the side winders for the sidewinders back to receive ready to kick off the 20-21-22 season a tenfold taking it back across the 20. crosses to 25 across the sideline here at the 30 crosses the 50 hempful cuts across field and he is gone what a start [Music] for the sidewinders what a couple of blocks that hempfree picked up there galemon what a way to start for the sidewinders six nothing early gerald hemphill takes it 85 yards to the house you couldn't have written a better start for the sidebinders season unbelievable run there by their cornerback star the kicker comes on for the extra point here for the sonora sidewinders and i spoke to darius kelly this morning about his cornerback and he talked about his speed on the outside he was so excited to see what he could offer on the defensive side of the ball and now you see what he's able to do on special teams there gets the sidewinders off to an early six nothing lead make it seven here as the extra point is good so with 14 43 remaining in the first quarter a touchdown return gives the sidewinders a 7-0 lead early you're watching juco football on the varsity sports show hey guys vince here to talk to you about a good friend of mine named bob jenkins bob is a marine corps they are led by the freshman treyjon shouting and they have a lot of belief in him starting him over some of the upperclassmen on their team they believe he's a skilled player out of high school and they look for him to have a big game today and i think you know after a huge touchdown like that he's got to have a composed drive he needs to be a leader for this team and you know flip the field position get his team in scoring position and play a solid game yeah they play a spread offense they said treyjon's had a lot of experience in the offense they're really excited to see what he can bring to the table for arizona christian university the sidewinders just about ready to kick off here an early seven nothing lead here at siena cienega high school adrian alvarado will send this one away this one filled in the end zone and taken out across the 20 and he breaks a tackle and he's going to go down the sideline can he go and yes he can arizona christian back to back kickoff returns we are about to be tied and what a start an absolute counter by arizona christian university they take it back on the kick return themselves what a entertaining start to this football game alex an unbelievable return by louis davis louis davies and it looked like he was had some trouble out about the 30-yard line picked up a couple blocks kept his eyes down the field and made the right cut and the right decision to go for the touchdown well arizona christian looking to tie this one with the extra point you couldn't have dreamt this start up the start of the junior college football season starts with two kickoff returns for touchdowns louis davies knocks that one in that that extra points good and with 14-25 remaining in the first quarter back-to-back kickoff returns gives us a score of 7-7 between arizona christian and the sonoran sidewinders what a start i mean i am just absolutely stunned i mean you couldn't have asked for more action in the first you know 30 seconds of this game 35 seconds both teams just stormed on the field in one play we haven't even seen the quarterbacks we've been talking about all night step on the field yet and there's already 14 points combined on the scoreboard and yeah we've discussed both offenses before they've even gotten on the field we've yet to see one offensive play it's been all special teams and we'll see if obviously there were the the kickoff teams for both squads not happy right now looking to fix that but the return team's feeling fantastic gerald hemphill who returned to 85 yards to the house on the first play of the game is back to return again for the sidewinders as the kick is away here in the first quarter 7-7 this one fielded by hemphill as he crosses the 20 the 25 and he's taken down there a big hit big hit there by javier fernandez yeah the linebacker laid one down says you're not going to take it back to the house this time to hemphry's and now talon palmer and the sonoran sidewinders offense will take the field first and ten as they get started on the 25 yard line first offensive play of the game and we're excited to see what is to come from tk maxx star running back for the sidewinders it's first and ten and shotgun as palmer takes the snap and hands it off to mac gain of about three there yeah picked up a good block there by the tight end that'll be ty bell cruseles he's a big body in there that's able to really open up some space for tk mac i look for him to have a really big game and i'm excited to see what we see from this offensive line the three interior offensive lineman played in the southern arizona all-star game this past year coach kelly really looking to take advantage of that run game hopefully tonight as palmer in shotgun again four wide receivers wide palmer's going to throw deep and it's going to be intercepted on the sideline [Applause] the quarterback that was an unbelievable acrobatic catch that was unbelievable i mean i couldn't he jumped up real high contested with the receiver brought it down and also kept both feet in i think that was good for an nfl interception yeah griffin miner there fantastic interception there and now it'll be shouting on the field for his squad after the turnover by the sidewinders yeah shouting with experience in this offense see if he can take advantage of an early turnover for arizona christian as shouting his first pass and shouting a little bit of a taller quarterback he's got a little bit more of an eye over the defense we'll see if that plays a factor in the into today's game and how he runs the offense yeah that one intended for patterson a bit low and shotgun again brings up second and ten and flags fly bit move bit of movement on the offensive line looks like we're gonna have a false start here and yeah the offense will be backing up if you're just joining us here on the varsity sports show it's the sonoran sidewinders versus the arizona christian university it's 7-7 back-to-back kickoff returns to start today's game is it second and 15 as shotlan gets that one out to the 49-yard line leone with the reception there that'll bring up third and short and i like that pass just get your playmakers to the outside let him get in space and he almost picks up the first down there while they're running a quick offense spread offense for arizona christian as shouting in shotgun third and three kenny convert run up the gut and that one's gonna be good for a first down pretty routine run there right up the middle right behind the guard and he gets right through to move the chains aurelio flippino with the carry there brings up first and ten shouting takes the snap it's going to be a screen pass out to leon and leone is going to be taken down quick nice tackle there great open space tackle by the sidewinders making sure that he doesn't make any move or cut to get around him and right there those are the tackles that win you football games the mis those missed tackles are huge mistakes and you know you break one of those and you can easily go for a touchdown brings up second and ten ball spotting on the 47. arizona christian inside winders territory is its pistol formation as shoutout takes the snap fires down the middle of the field and it's intercepted it was tipped and intercepted at the 46-yard line the 41-yard line and the sidewinders are going to take over so back-to-back kickoff returns and back-to-back interceptions to get started basically whatever you can do i can i can do the same thing and that's exactly what's happening the sideminders start off the game returning it for a touchdown the next play on special teams arizona christian takes it back and now two interceptions back to back in a row for these teams they've just been doing the exact same place 11 42 still tied up at seven shotgun for palmer with mack to his right palmer takes the snap it's a handoff to mack and mack has some room up the middle and mack is gone tk mack is gonna make this oh and he's gonna be tackled down at the two what a game-saving tackle right there i'm sorry a score saving tackle i should say but we saw the speed of tk mack right there that we know we would see after all those stats that we just read off from high school over 2 000 rushing yards in his career and looked like tk mack was gone nice tackle there in the open field to keep him out of the end zone ball still spotted at the two got a lot of really good blocks as well especially on the linebackers to break free there first time either team has visited the red zone this will be snapped from around the four yard line here four receivers wide mac to the left of palmer season shotgun as the clock ticks under 11 in the first quarter here all tied up at seven that's palmer hands it off to mack up the middle and he's going to be stuffed ran into a brick wall that defense means business down in the red zone well nice job at that defensive interior front of arizona christian see if they can come up with a couple more stops here the ball spotted on the two yard line second and goal yeah until that play the offensive line for the sideliners really has been dominating this game so far up front so that was a really key play for arizona christian with mack to the right of palmer four receivers wide palmer takes the snap and it's a handoff to mack who's gonna trip and he's gonna be down at the one and that'll bring up third and goal big third down here if you can hold the team to a field goal hold the side miners to a field goal that is a win in yearbook after the huge breakout run by tk mack yeah what appeared to be a runaway touchdown ended up being a tackle at the one and now here we are third and goal and mack comes off the field for this play and will be the running back number five for the sidewinder john beltran in a running back palmer in shotgun will they hand it off again i'm looking for a slant across the middle i think here's what they're gonna be looking at going to take it himself [Music] will they push him in no another stop at the goal line i'm shocked they didn't throw that ball once alex interesting play call here and they don't get it and here comes the field goal unit out and they're gonna take the three points here a missed opportunity there by the sidewinders so it was a four point saving tackle on that tk mac breakout run that easily could have been six but just got tripped up at the last moment and saves arizona christian four points as the sidewinders on for the field goal and that one is good so with 8 26 remaining here at cienega high school the sonora sidewinders lead arizona christian 10-7 here on the varsity sports show hey guys the varsity sports show it's the sonora sidewinders who have a 10-7 lead against arizona christian a crazy start back-to-back kickoff returns back-to-back interceptions mac ran it down to the one and then the sidewinders were stopped at the goal line and that brings us to 8 26 remaining here in the first quarter 10-7 as the sidewinders ready to kick it off to arizona christian this one fielded was it touched as it goes up back to the end zone it's going to be a touch back dangerous play there for arizona christian yeah easily could have been a safety if he touched that ball there luckily did not he kind of tripped and fell on his way back to grab it i thought he could easily let that one go and arizona christian will get this one started on the 25. and we've had a wild game so far alex i'd really like to see the offense for arizona christian kind of settle down establish their run game and get some easy runs and some easy yardages here with the offense back on the field there's going to be a flag looks like 12 men in the huddle yeah 12 men on the field those are mental mistakes that coach is just absolutely despised and you know the team here backs up five yards where they didn't need to be yeah week one been going through training camp all these practices you do all the mental reps but you never get the reps on the actual field here they are week one as shouting hands this one off as a flag comes in looks like this one's going to come back for holding that was massawa on the carry and this one is holding it's going to be 10-yard penalty it's going to bring up first and 25 for arizona christian so not the start they were looking for after an interception coming back out here first and 25 with the ball spotted on their own 10-yard line as they continue this spread offense and we have some clock issues here but we get it going as shout and gets ready to snap and shotgun shouting gives this one off to his running back takes this one out to about the 20-yard line similar play they had on last drive where shout and gives it to his half back gets in space that time stopped pretty quickly by the dbs of the sidewinders nice job by maurice raquette in the open field there just see aurelio flippini come in at running back for arizona christian four receivers wide you got a man in motion it'll be trips on the left side of the field here as shoutout and takes the snap looks dumps it off to his running back tries to make a man missed and a nice open field tackle there yeah these db's for the side miners making really good tackles out in space allowing no miss tackles and no one to get behind them that's the key right now when you have an offense that's backed up all you got to do is keep everything in front of you in front of the first down marker yeah that was jarrell hemphill with the tackle already has a kickoff return in this one coach kelly raved about him in the pregame as shouting takes the third and 12 snap facing pressure and down he goes down goes shouting on third down and a nice defensive stop there by the sidewinders pocket collapsed from every direction around shouting there was really nothing for him to do except for duck and hold on to the ball and he did a good job of doing that that easily could have been ripped out as there was defensive lineman from each way coming at him and here comes the punting unit for arizona christian yeah julian atkin back to return for the sidewinders we've already had some crazy special teams plays alex wouldn't be surprised to see another one here the way things are going tonight bad snap there nice recovery by the punters able to get this one away it's not too good of one it's going to take an arizona christian bounce though across midfield and it's going to be touched at about the 46 and that'll be where the sidewinders take over sideliners will start on their own 46 on this drive and the quarterback talon palmer comes back out and after getting stuffed on the goal line they had first and goal on the two were stuffed three times three running attempts other than that other than those three plays though i really do believe that their offensive front has looked fantastic those linemen are making really good blocks and we know tk maxx's ability when he gets out in space we saw how fast he is how athletic he is he can make one cut and he's gone and mack well over 50 yards already this evening as palmer in shotgun takes the snap and hands this one off he's going to keep it himself actually and he's going to be taken down nice tackle there by arizona christian looks like they ran the read option there and talon palmer holds on to that one the defenders the defensive end for arizona christian read that correctly made the tackle out in space for a loss of a yard yeah great tackle there by martin brings up second and 11 on the 45 here you see mack back in the game for the sidewinders this one handed off to the backup running back and he is stuffed in the backfield so back-to-back plays arizona christians able to make beautiful open field tackles for loss yeah the offense has been going backwards now both of them on these last two possessions the defense is stepping up settling in they're quick they're relentless and they're going after these quarterbacks yeah beltran had nothing there great open field tackle now a third and long looks like it's a third and 20 here yeah third and 18. palmer in shotgun he takes the snap palmer looks he scrambles to his close sideline looking deep and this one's going to be thrown out in the middle of the field flags flying it looks like could be holding yeah we got a hold on number 12 i think just just barely wrapped his arms around the hips of the receiver and that's a nice job by palmer at least give his receivers a shot to go up and get it get a chance to get a holding penalty and that's exactly what they do and that's going to be an automatic first down for the sidewinders big mental mistake you know looks like that pass might have been overthrown the receiver didn't really look like he had a chance to get it just that little grab makes all the difference and the referee makes the right decision there to throw the flag yeah arizona christian was able to get the third and 18 and a holding penalty now gives the sidewinders a first down coach rick johnson can't be happy on that far sideline with arizona christian clock ticks under 4 22 it's 10-7 here in the first quarter as palmer able to draw the defense looks like offsides there and that's exactly what they do going to be a five-yard penalty make it first and five here so a lot of penalties here week one jitters like you said are gonna play a key part in today's game and you know already we've seen a lot of penalties thrown brings up first and five palmer takes the snap this one handed off to beltran and beltran stuffed for a loss back-to-back tackles for loss for arizona christian big 91 makes the tackle there for arizona christian and beltra beltran comes out and tk mack comes back in for the sidewinders brings up second and nine cyber has been running the ball quite a bit we'll see if we can get a play action here especially with tk mac in the backfield i expect to see that happen here yeah three wide receivers on the bottom of your screen mack to the left of palmer as palmer takes the snap he looks still looking scrambling palmer gonna be taken down behind the line of scrimmage and sacked palmer tried to scramble there drew grent ridge on the tackle there yeah they might have a third down and long so after the penalty the offense moving backwards nice job by the defensive line they've really shown presence and have forced the quarterback palmer outside of the pocket and has made him uncomfortable make to make throws down the field yeah that defensive line been outstanding on this drive for arizona christian brings up a third and long as palmer and shotgun wide receivers set out to the wide it's a handoff to mack trying to get across midfield he does mack out to about the 44 and that's going to bring up fourth down in decision time now for the sidewinders and it looks like they're going to be bringing the punting team on to flip the field and i think i like that play you know you have a lead here you want to protect it going for it here allows and you don't get it allows the arizona christian to be in great field position and take over so the sidewinder is going to go ahead and punt it away here low snap again yeah punter gets this one away looks like a good one yeah nice just high in the air and it's fair fair cut yeah this one fair caught at about the 17 with 151 remaining here in the first the sidewinders lead 10-7 against arizona christian as that arizona christian university offense comes back out and last time out had three had two penalties uh three plays go backwards coach definitely made some adjustments on the sideline let's see what the offense does here let's see if we'll get some quick throws from the quarterback shouting yeah let's see what shouting can do here first and ten this one shouton's going to keep it himself and shelton's going to be taken down at about the first down marker and it appears it's going to be a first down shot made a great read held it on as long as possible and then pulled it and he looked really good running up the middle looked very confident and comfortable the ball spotted at the 21 pistol formation for acu as shouting takes this one it's a bad snap nice job by the running back to pick this one up and it's fumbled and it looks like the sidewinder winders have it [Music] wow i mean it was a bobbled snap and somehow it ends up in the hands looked like it was just bobbled the whole time i thought the running back for arizona christian got to hold on to it but it looks like he was still bobbling as he was running and kind of got picked off in the air by number 99 and the sidewinders are going to take over just outside the red zone here on the 28 yard line that was herman ortiz who got the fumble recovery there the defensive lineman for the sideminers and they are now in excellent field position as they start this next drive palmer in shotgun trips to the right 112 remaining it's 10-7 as palmer's in shotgun mack to the right of him as it's a handoff to mack and mack absolutely ran over the defender there mack showing his strength driving those legs through the defender this will bring up a second and six yeah clock ticks under a minute here in the first quarter sidewinders trying to take advantage of this good field position after a fumble by acu three wide receivers at the top of your screen one at the bottom mack to the right of palmer as they're in shotgun and palmer hands it off to mack up the middle and not too much there for mack looks like a gain of one ball came out but the refs gonna say mack was down and then it looks like that will bring us to the end of this first quarter it's been all special teams here in the first quarter of this hjcac battle between the sidewinders and arizona christian university both teams scoring a touchdown on kickoff returns and then the one field goal by the sideminders and that'll do it for a first quarter after one the sonoran sidewinders 10 the arizona christian university seven are you field position yeah ball in the 24. uh looks like we got two running backs in the backfield yeah palmer takes the snap in shotgun he's gonna fire towards the end zone and it's gonna be incomplete nice defense there by acu and that's gonna force a fourth down yeah that's drew garon garentrich there on the defensive play he made a great tip number 87 the tight end for the side miners was wide open it was a good throw but a better defensive play by the corner and adrian alvarado is going to come out and attempt what appears to be a 40-yard field goal we'll see what alvarado has here it's officially ruled a 39-yard field goal the lefty kicker lines this one up alvarado's kick is blocked and it looks like both teams yeah that the ball is live or not here yeah play is dead so the ball was blocked herman ortiz picked it up for the sideminders no whistle called talk about a great job by the acu defense come out after a toner turnover and get a defensive stop there keep the score to 10-7 well in the red zone close to the red zone here they've done a great job of allowing the team not to get in the the team the sideliners not to get in the end zone a field goal on the four yard line after the big tk mac run and now off the turnover no points so just three points and two ginormous potential play swinging or game swinging plays there well the acu offense comes back out here led by quarterback treyjon shouton and so far none of these quarterbacks have looked have looked uh comfortable in the pocket the defensive line has done a great job of getting him outside the pocket making him look uncomfortable and both teams been running the ball quite a bit i'd like to see the quarterbacks make some short throws and stay confident in the pocket and a timeout's going to be called here go with the quarterback switch here this one thrown out in the backfield he's met for a loss behind the line of scrimmage bring up second in about 12. so coach rick johnson just trying to get this offense in a groove they've scored seven from that early kickoff return to start the game but have not been able to get anything going on the offensive side of the ball no you said it right alex both of these offenses look confused the defense is really having whatever they want with these offenses mckenney fires that one incomplete just behind his receiver yeah he had a man threw behind him he had to slip back and he fell trying to attempt to make the catch yeah targeting devin williams there just behind him brings up third and 12. can this sidewinders defense get off the field as mchenry takes the snap he scrambles the flag is down mckenney's going to take it himself as he breaks down the sidelines going to be taken down at about the 36 as another flag flies we'll see what that's for looks like we got holding in the backfield and then a late hit so it looks like these penalties might actually offset here alex we'll see what the referees say here as they huddle together near the sidewinder sideline referees confer here 13.50 remaining here in the second quarter the sonoran sidewinders 10. arizona christian seven it's gonna be a holding on acu and after the play they're gonna call a dead ball personal foul against the sidewinders a late hit and that's going to be an automatic first down let's talk about how acu let's talk about how mckellen made a great run got outside of the pocket escaped looked downfield and made a nice run to keep this drive alive for the team yeah mckellen despite that holding flag stuck with the play also put his body on the line for the team taking that big hit after the play well chance for the acu offense to restart here the ball spotted on the 25 yard line first and 10. as it's handed off to al fiji for a couple yards there al fiji a freshman running back here for acu as they get ready to line up again here again four receivers out in the shotgun we've seen a lot of that formation today alex yeah this one gonna be taken again by afici and he's going to take it down to the 42. kept his eyes downfield was looking to go outside and saw that the middle was open made a cut up the field put his head down and got the first down a substitution here and just gets off the field in time here comes number 58. and mckenney takes the snap this one fired over quickly to the far sideline complete looks like a gain of about seven there this offense no huddle continuing to move quickly second and short ball spotted on the 45. telling them to hurry up on that acu sideline trying to move quickly as mckenney takes the snap he looks fires it's going to be complete this one the ball crosses the 40. nice rollout and completion for a first down there but vernon ortiz right on mckellany's back there yeah nice right through the defense line nice job by jalen patterson the receiver there gets out to the 41 inside winders territory mckenney commanding the offense first and 10 on the 41. let's see what he can do here and pistol mchenny pressured gonna be a screen pass and it's intercepted by the big man and the big man with a stiff arm and let's see what he can do here he stays on his feet the big man down the sideline and he's gonna be taken down at the 12 but the big man what an interception by the sidewinders vernon ortiz has had an amazing game so far pressure by him has been unbelievable on the quarterback and right there makes a huge play steps up grabs the ball in the middle of the air breaks a couple tackles and gets it down inside the 20 but it looks like we have a flag here on the sideline what a play by the big man ortiz we got a couple flags on the field we'll see what they are but it looks like this one's still going to stand what a play by ortiz add that to the highlight reel absolutely i mean that was a top sports center top 10 caliber play right there so the penalty was on the offensive team and that penalty will be declined so ortiz's interception will hold up the return will hold up they'll be in the red zone the sidewinders once again where acu has held up very very well alex just three points given up well they're going to call a holding during the return by ortiz it's going to bring the ball back about 10 yards ball's going to be spotted at the 35 but still fantastic field position for the sidewinders trying to take advantage of another acu turnover the score is just 10-7 11 25 here in the second quarter and we have ortiz on the sideline getting worked on looks like a shoulder injury perhaps after that interception he's getting worked on by the trainer here yeah tk mac in it running back for the sidewinders to the right of palmer who's in shotgun as palmer takes the snap flags down early the screen pass is going to be incomplete we'll see what this flag is about here we've had quite a lot of flags here [Music] it's going to be a legal procedure a bit of movement on that line and again those penalties just go back to the week one jitters we believe you know just offense not prepared for game situations quite yet and you know it's expected to happen the team expects to also clean it up in practice i'm sure this week well that's back-to-back penalties now for the sidewinders they could have had the ball on the 12. the ball is now on the 40. it's first and 15. mack to the left of palmer as palmer hands it off to mack up the middle mack breaks through a few tackles and takes it down to about the 32. and what surprises me about mack every time is how explosive he hits the the holes that his offensive line creates for him really explosive there and picks up big yardage because of that and these receivers also the receivers and the db's going at it we saw ty pedoway number 13 for the side miners on the outside really going at it with the cornerback yeah brings up second and eight two receivers to the top of your screen two to the bottom with mac to the left of palmer as palmer fires to the near sideline incomplete and that's going to bring up third and long ball just throwing a little bit low by shouting he still has yet to really i think look super comfortable in the pocket looks a little bit rushed i'd like to see him slow down yeah that one intended for paxton just a bit out in front of him brings up third and eight here the sidewinders have yet to take advantage of any of these acu turnovers yeah acu has done a great job and this defense has to be tired they've been on the field for the majority of the game tonight still have held up and is the reason why their team's still in the game right now receiver in motion mack to the right of palmer palmer takes the snap palmer looks palmer fires and it's over the head of the receiver and that'll bring up fourth down he had ty pedoway on a post route a skinny post rod right up the middle just overthrow him now it'll be third and eight here in the 33-yard line as the offense looks to the coaching staff on the sideline for another play and decision time now it's going to be a field goal attempt they're going to bring out adrian alvarado again his first attempt was a 40-yard field goal it was blocked alvarado is out again to attempt another field goal he's one for two today this one from 49 yards [Music] can the offensive line hold up the 49-yard kick is up and it's no good it was the right line alex it looked good from here just a little bit short there from the 49-yard field goal that was an extremely long field goal just didn't have the leg definitely tell kelly has confidence in his kicker and once again arizona christian holds up after the turnover their offense gets back on the field and i'm sure that defense wants the offense out there for longer than they have the defense been on the field quite often today well acu's going to take over the ball on the 33. mckenney's going to be back out at quarterback for acu and i'll feature in the backfield here yeah nice couple carries last possession by feature let's see if they can get him the ball here acu just looking to get any type of momentum on that offensive side of the football as mckenney hands it off to afici takes it for maybe a couple players helmet comes off here that'll be ortiz's helmet that has come off and we've seen this acu offense try to get going running a no huddle offense but the turnovers have just killed them all night it's it's second and eight the ball's on the 35 mchenny takes the snap and there's a flag looked like a bit of movement on the offensive line and there was easy false start call by the referees and it'll back him up for a second down and long yeah they get the running back of fiji they're moving a bit early mcelhenny and shotgun as mcelhenny looks looking and he gets his receiver complete see if he was able to get through that first yard down looks to be a bit short of the first down marker bring up third and about two mcilhenny looks pretty composed here makes a nice throw stays patient yeah third and two they hand it off to a fiji up the middle and he's able to get the first down nice job by acu to get on the ball quickly and convert on that third down so a nice drive brewing right now for acu i like the mix of the run pass that they have right now yeah offense moving quick mcelhenny hands it off to a feature who's stuffed in the backfield tackle for loss he plays tight end as well as defensive line so a star player for this team that's able to play on both sides of the ball mix the tackle yeah there brings up second and down we're gonna take a timeout acu's gonna call timeout with the score 10-7 with 8 24 let's see what mcelhenny can do here for the acu offense as he's in shotgun afici to his left and it's a handoff to afici who takes it for a few balls gobbled up again by the tight end krusellas once again he's the tight end defensive end player he plays on both sides of the ball makes another tackle yeah another third and long for acu see what mackleheny can do here look to be a bit of movement on the offensive play here could be a free play this one thrown deep and it's going to be incomplete and that one's going to be offside so it's going to be another third down attempt about third and seven now for acu see if they can convert here as the ball crosses midfield yeah third and 12 turns into third and seven and that's definitely more manageable for this offense yeah first time mcelhenny has gotten his offense past the midfield mark sits third and seven pistol formation for acu and a false start yeah number 82 there yeah that wide receiver that balls can be moved back five yards the freshman jordan holland jumps a little bit early didn't know the snap count so penalties have been the story for acu penalties and turnovers in week one but they still just trailed 10-7 their defense has kept them in the game tonight the bright side of their team definitely has been the defense tonight as the snap comes here as mcelhenny fires down the middle of the field it's complete and there he goes can he be caught no he can't touchdown arizona christian what a spin move by nick bueller there to evade the tackler and he takes it to the house for over a 50-yard touchdown it was a 51-yard score there and what a throw by mcelhenny as well yeah nick bueller a seam round up the middle and mcelhenny hit him and he was gone and just like that after all the turnovers after all the penalties arizona christian has the lead alex and referees looks like we have a personal foul here on the defense and the foul's gonna be enforced on the kickoff so the extra they can get anything going on the offensive side of the football they've been in the red zone they're past two possessions and have come away with zero points we have a rare penalty and offsides on the kickoff so we'll have a re-kick and the referees are going to meet here the five yard penalty is going to be assessed on top of the kickoff so the ball is going to be placed at the 30. it'll be first and 10 from the 30 for the sidewinders 7 43 remaining in the second quarter this one handed off to beltran gain of about one there new quarterback in the game it's luis morales jr morales morales played at cienega high school playing on his home field here a place he's definitely very familiar with obviously and we'll see if he can get this offense going for the sidewinders yeah coach kelly not waiting until halftime to make any adjustments on that offensive side of the football morales jr now in a quarterback for acu timeout is that timeout's going to be taken by the sidewinders so both teams making quarterback changes as we have just under seven minutes to go in the second quarter here at cienega high school yeah i can definitely say both coaches did not enter tonight's game thinking they'd have to move to their backup quarterback but indeed they do the score is 14 to 10. it's a beautiful night as well here we opened up with back to back kickoff returns for touchdowns an electric start it was an electric start but since then things have been kind of slowed down a lot of penalties uh stopping the flow of these offenses referees and the sidewinders one of the assistant coaches having a conversation here about some of the calls here potentially as we get ready to resume play from cienega high school at second and nine ball spotted on the 31. once again it's luis morales jr in at quarterback he's in shotgun with mack to the right side three wide receivers at the far side of the field morales takes this one it's a handoff to mack up the middle mack able to break a few tackles bounce off but he's going to be taken down at about the 40-yard line excuse me the 35-yard line love the fight there by mack staying on his feet continuing to drive his legs that's something that i've seen him do today quite a bit and it's allowed him to pick up a few extra yards and stand his feet yeah it brings up third and manageable for the sidewinders morales trying to convert in his first offensive drive in at quarterback third and five balls on the 35 with a receiver in motion yes sean brown coming towards the booth our side here mack to the right of morales who's in shotgun morales jr takes the snap fires across the field it's intercepted and there he goes pick [Applause] six jonah leone takes it all the way and the scores 20 to 10. a c u the ball was tipped up in the air and jonah leone just says i'll take that and takes it to the house for another touchdown and all of a sudden acu is in control of this football game even with the turnovers alex they lead it by 10 as we await an extra point to potentially go up by 11. what a play by jonah leone keeping his eyes on the football the ball was tipped up in the air and he takes it to the house so on morales junior's first drive an interception after the receiver tips the ball up into the air as the extra point attempt is good so with 39 remaining in the second quarter a pick six gives acu a 21-10 he put in luis morales jr trying to get a bit of momentum on that offensive side of the ball they haven't been able to get the ball moving all day but morales goes in and throws a pick six in his first drive of the day as hempfield's going to take this one out he returns one early in the first quarter as hemphill is going to be taken down at the 26. and that is where the sidewinders will get going as a flag is thrown late we'll see what this one's for and on the return look like hempfree's almost hesitated a little bit to come out of the end zone didn't know if he was going to take a knee or not decided to take it out and got a decent return nonetheless we'll check what the penalty is looks like it's on the receiving team unsportsmanlike so that'll be a 15-yard penalty backwards it's been the story of the game all these penalties for both teams both coaches cannot be happy alex yeah penalties have really cost both of these teams great field position you just look at the sidewinders when they had that interception ortiz took that ball all the way down to the 12 but penalties took them back to the 30 to start that drive and they came away with no points there and on this possession they start with the ball back all the way on the 13. so let's see what luis morales can do with the offense here mack to his left side and that's where it goes is the handoff mack mack gobbled up by that defensive line who is showing more of a presence mack got free a couple times in the first quarter so far in the second as we're about five minutes to go no big breakouts and no big holes created by this offensive line that the coach has talked about pregame yeah clock continues to take under five minutes here in the second quarter the sidewinders trail by 11. despite starting this game out with a kickoff return tk mack was stopped on the goal line three times that gave the sidewinders delay game's going to be called here we were saying the sidewinders had an opportunity to take a 17-7 lead excuse me a 14-7 lead but they were stuffed on the goal line were forced to kick a field goal and since then it's been acu ever since this will be a really key moment here the sidewinders need to pick up some yardages as morales hands it off to mack who takes it down the outside and he cuts across field and there goes teeth k mack and he could go and he's gone tk mack is gonna take it the house 85 yards for tk mack and he puts it in the end zone something he couldn't do in the first that's his second breakout like you said this one is going to be for six but tk mac takes that one 85 yards just when you thought the side miners were pinned and this drive would be over tk finds a crease on the outside cuts it back makes an explosive athletic play and just like that the game's now potentially going to be 17 to 21 and the sidebinders have life again yeah sidewinders have been waiting all day for tk mack to break out for one he broke out for one in the first quarter was stopped on the one but there there was no stopping tk mack as the extra point is good so with 414 remaining in the second quarter an 85-yard touchdown run brings the acu lead to 21-17 over sidewinders the story of the game has been penalties like we've been talking about all night but it's also been these huge huge plays we saw the pick six by jonah leon we saw two huge breakout runs by tk mack we saw two kick returns by the teams to go to the house i mean big plays have been the key story today as we get ready to send this one off yeah this one kicked off and fielded by jackson and jackson takes it out to about the 32 and that's where the acu offense will get started with a four-point lead here with 409 remaining in the second quarter mcelhenny who threw a 52-yard touchdown in the last drive comes back out here trying to get this acu offense a few more points before they head into the locker room for half mcelhany has looked really really good so far for this offense he's made the right decisions made the right reads made them made the right throws and has brought his team to the lead shotgun from mcelhenny as he takes the snap he hands this one off that's rockette with the carry you're the freshman gets his first carry of the game and takes it for four yards once again no huddle offense for acu shotgun again mcelhenny keeps it himself mcelhenny is going to run it down the near sideline and knacklehead is going to be taken down at midfield another great read there he pulls it and keeps the ball on the read option and shows his speed and athleticism as he turns the corner and picks up the first down it's first and ten ball in the 49. mcelhenny takes the snap he's looking he's looking macho henry's going to take it himself and he's going to take out out of bounds at the 46. cross midfield clock continues to tick under 3 20 here in the first half easy four yards picked up on the run there keeps his eye kept his eyes down field looking for a receiver to get open the db's did a great job however of staying in coverage and he just picks up the four yards on the ground three receivers near side as mcelhenny steps back it's going to be a screen pass to roquette and there goes rocket who's going to be taken down nice open field tackle there at about the 42-yard line gonna bring up third and short for acu ticks under three minutes here 21-17 acu leads the sidewinders here at cienega high school and checking back in now is the big fella number 99 who had the interception earlier he's been a menace on the field today philpini in at running back mcelhenny in shotgun mackelheny looks for the screen looks to shake off a man flags down mcelhenny is stuffed behind the line of scrimmage and sacked for a loss trevor watkins with the sack trevor watkins laid down the hit stick he's that that was all 6'3 305 pounds of that player there there is a flag down on the field wait to get this ruling and it's going to be hands to the face on the sidewinders and that's going to be an automatic first down for acu the ball's going to be moved up to the 36 great field position for acu 212 remaining here in the first half clock continues to run we'll see if acu elects to run a play here 205 still counting mcelhenney takes the snap mcelhenne looks macklin he almost intercepted went right through the hands of the db number 34 for the sideliners that would have been a game-changing play as that was damien garza he's also a running back on this team but that was a a play that would have been enormous as acu is in scoring position right now clocks at 158 no two minute warning in junior college football mcelhenny looks screen pass to rockette this one taken that one out to leone gonna be a three yard gain there that'll bring up third and eight clock continues to tick under two minutes here balls on the 29-yard line acu trying to get some points before they head in the locker room as mcelhenny takes the snap this one is going to be batted out incomplete looking for the screen attempt there brings up fourth down nice play by cruseles there who pokes the ball out and they'll bring up a fourth and eight decision time it looks like they're gonna go for it here might just be a little bit outside of their kickers field goal range yeah they're gonna keep the offensive out the offense out on the field here it's fourth and eight the ball is on the 29. 123 remaining in the first half [Music] mcelhenny and all there's some movement as flags fly everywhere that's going to bring it's gonna make this fourth and eight fourth and thirteen now yeah now even a tougher decision for acu here as you know this is a very long fourth down attempt here are they gonna maybe just punt this one and pin pin the sidewinders well coach johnson erect electing to keep the offense out on the field it's fourth and 13. with the minute 23 to go balls on the 34. pistol formation three receivers to near side as mcelhenny fires he's got an open man oh and it's just out in front and that's going to be a turnover on downs and the sidewinders are going to take takeover on downs on the 34-yard line with 118 remaining here in the first half mcelhoney definitely had a man there it was a really really tight window he had to put it into to make that completion happen just barely overthrew him and a turnover on downs with 118 to go and two timeouts left definitely an opportunity for the sideliners to get some points up on the board especially with how explosive their offense has been tk mack in the back field we haven't said their names but receivers type head away sean brown and aj paxton are guys that also can break out at any time well two timeouts left in the back pocket of kelly here with 118 remaining in the first half morales in shotgun with mack to his right and it's a handoff to mack trying to get out to the outside he cuts it inside and he takes it for a few so the clock will continue to run unless a timeout will be used by the timeliners let's see what they decide to do looks like they're going to go with the hurry up offense yeah clock continues to tick plenty of time here for the sidebinders let's see if they're going to start passing to the sidelines and get out of bounds only one receiver to the outside here at the top of your screen can tell some frustration coach kelly wants him to snap this ball as morales fires to the far sideline it's going to be complete it's going to be short of the first down marker it's gonna bring up third and about four quick little five yard out route gets out of bounds stops the clock yeah nice job to get out of bounds 49 seconds remaining here big third down now for the sidewinders luis morales took over in the second quarter it's third and three with the ball in the 41 mack to the right of morales two wide receivers to the near side one two at the far morales takes the snap looking fires down the middle of the field and right through the defenders hands there's a flag down it's a very dangerous in the backfield as well very dangerous pass over the middle yeah we get the flag in the backfield but a very very dangerous pass lucky that that one wasn't intercepted yeah right through the hands of the defender this one's gonna be holding on the offense gonna move the sidewinders back another 10. both teams with two timeouts remaining the and the penalty is going to be declined and that brings up fourth down yeah and i like that declining that penalty putting the pressure back in the sidewinders looks like they're gonna get the ball back with two timeouts here because the penalty stopped the clock yeah stop here would give acu the ball back possibly on the 41 yard line quick adjustment by the clock operator and they're gonna go for this on fourth down here alex yeah morales in shotgun mack to his right on their own side of the field as well ball in their own 41. interesting play call here see if they try to draw them off sides they can't and kelly's going to take a time out nice job by acu to stay on side there not jump so 40 seconds remain here in the first half it's fourth and three coach kelly with the decision to make here looks like he's gonna send the punt unit out play field position here yeah definitely that is the right decision to make here just 40 seconds to go your defense has been playing pretty solid all night you know the dbs have done a really good job on the receivers we haven't seen a lot of we haven't set a lot of wide receivers names so far tonight alex defensive backs doing a really really good job yeah running game has dominated the offensive side of the football for the sidewinders not too much going in the passing game brings up fourth and three as the sidewinders prepared to punt it away here 40 seconds left here in the second quarter as alvarado gets this one away and it looks like a good one bounces down on the 25. oh and it's going to be touched by an acu player and going to be picked up we'll see what the ruling here is by the referee looked like vinnie mon might have touched it [Music] and he did they're saying vinnie vaughn of arizona christian touched it and it was recovered by the sidewinders but now a discussion by the referees was it touched by the sidewinders before acu hit it very interesting play just couldn't tell up here from the booth exactly what happened and the referees said that it was touched by the sidewinders yeah they're going to overturn this call they're going to say the sidewinders were the first to touch it and i think that's the the correct call look like you saw once that ball bounced on the 25-yard line it bounced up and hit the leg of a purple jersey and that'll do it now with two timeouts left 30 seconds do you try to score here with the lead or protect the ball run it out go into halftime make some adjustments well we'll see what rick johnson elects to do here with his offense mcelhenny in shotgun he's just going to hand this one off looks to be a good carry this one down the sideline across midfield and gets out of balance so still two timeouts remaining as he crosses the 50-yard line yeah phil pini able to take that one across midfield over down to the 49-yard line 25 seconds remaining here in the second quarter and hcu might have a potential to score here before the half mcelhenney and shotgun it's a handoff to phil pini he's still going and he's going to be taken down at about the 42. clock continues to take in now a time out call by acu and coach rick johnson nice two runs there and the second one he was dragging defenders behind him the ball here is just past the 45-yard line of the sidewinders and the referees would get together to talk about the clock here the clock says nine seconds but i think a timeout was called a little bit before that it looks like 18 seconds we'll be on the clock now but yeah now one time out left a huge opportunity for the for the acu team to get into field goal range potentially and go up by a touchdown heading into halftime we still have some clock issues here at cienega high school it is a perfect night for need on the football high 80 degrees clear skies here in tucson virtually no wind just waiting for the clock operator here and i think those two runs kind of caught the sideminder offense off guard they expect them with just under 30 seconds to go probably to pass the ball but instead they're gonna run it and i don't think the defense was ready for that two huge breakout runs by acu and the clock still not set at 18 seconds here and finally we have the clock here set at 18 seconds as the fans clap so 18 seconds remaining it's second and three ball spotted on about the 43 as mcelhenny takes the snap he's looking deep he fires deep downfield this one almost intercepted by hemphill the star cornerback for the sidewinders falls in complete 13 seconds remain here hempfield knew where the ball was and i don't think the receiver did he almost tracked that one down looked almost to be offensive past interference from here it definitely did no call though brings up third and two we'll see if they take they're gonna long two see if they take another shot down the field here they'll go for a quick out route get out of bounds yeah 13 seconds left mclehennian shotgun he looks at the screen pass this one's going to be dropped and incomplete that brings up fourth down maybe a hail mary option here four seconds remain here in the second quarter it's a fourth down looks like it'll be a hail mary with four seconds to go see if mcelhenny has the arms trying to get it to the end zone here i expect to see him roll outside of the pocket to give himself time for the receivers to get down field mcleheny looks he steps up he's going to run it himself and he's going to run out of bounds and that'll do it oh and there's going to be a flag and that means we're going to have one more play in this first half looked like he was out of bounds at about the 30. a late hit would be a 15-yard penalty and bring it up to about the 15-yard line this is kind of reminding me of the aaron rodgers versus detroit lions game where everyone thought the game was over and as the clock hit zero there was a flag a face mask on rogers and we know what happens next rogers threw a hail mary that was converted to richard rodgers we'll see if something happened here where we'll get another play but it looks like the side miners are going to head into the locker room so it looks like there will be no penalty and that will do it for arizona christian university alex coming alongside jack pearson here 21-17 arizona christian leads and what are you looking to see out of both these offenses obviously turnovers early but it seems like both of them were able to get in a groove as we reached our way towards halftime yeah i'd like to see that more and i'd like to see the offenses kind of settle down we haven't seen a long methodical drive for any of these teams so far it's been one big play that these teams have scored on i'd like to see the offenses you know get four yards of carry you know i'd like to see some slant routes from these receivers who we haven't talked about especially in the side binders you know we have aj paxton sean brown ty padaway james slay jr and the tight end ty belle cruzelis we haven't heard those guys names called too often tonight i'd like to see once again a long methodical drive for one of these teams and you know that allows them to take control of this football game and for for the sidewinders obviously a quarterback change they started tailing palmer and then in the second quarter switch to luis morales jr they were to get a little bit more of the running game going obviously tk mack in explosive first half he broke out for an 85 yard touchdown run and then he had a 50-yard run where he was stopped on the one-yard line on that possession they were stuffed at the goal line but a fantastic first half from tk mack and luis morales once he entered the game yeah he's he's got over 150 yards today on the ground tk tk mac does and he's just so hard for defenses to tackle he's going to continue to fight he's going to continue to get those extra yardages and you know the sidewinders want to give him the ball as much as possible he's their star player he's a guy in high school that dominated on the field over 2 000 russian yards in his high school career 34 total touchdowns in his high school career as we get ready to set off for these second half kickoff at cienega high school in tucson arizona on the varsity sports show thank you all for tuning in uh we had a upper camera a higher view earlier unfortunately we had to knock that down as there is a numerous amount of big bugs here in tucson that have been attacking all of us tonight and the fans here a couple hunter fans we got here uh it's been a wild ride in tucson the sidewinders are going to kick it off to acu to get their second half started for the sidewinders one way to describe their first half was just penalties penalties killed the sidewinders they had a interception that got taken down to the 12-yard line but penalties moved it back to the 30 which resulted in no points on that drive and then penalties have just backed them up numerous occasions on the offensive side of the football obviously something coach kelly wants to clean up in halftime the sidewinders ready to kick off you see the ball spot on the 20-yard line that's because of a personal foul that occurred on the final play of the first half yeah we thought that play was gonna allow the sidewinders to have one more snap before the first half ended but instead it'll be on the kickoff and we are ready to go alvarado kicks that one off and it's a live poll if acu fields it's picked up and acu's gonna take this one out at about the 31. yeah i wanted to see a little bit more of a sense of urgency for number five for acu yeah oj jackson just let that ball sit on the ground for a minute the sidewinders awfully awfully close to getting that ball there yeah out comes this acu offense and on the defensive side of the ball for the sidewinders ortiz has been a force to be reckoned with already an interception and a sack he's been a force on that defensive line for the sidewinders let's see what the acu offense has in store here as johnny herrera is now in a quarterback for acu this one handed off to the running back joshua black that one just for a few yards there so it's our third quarterback for acu this is also a freshman into the game and he hands the ball off on his first snap and you were talking about the big fella hernan ortiz i think you gotta you know double this guy he's been all in the quarterback's quarterback face making his life really really tough yeah herrera keeps this one he takes it to the outside near his sideline he's gonna be taken down at midfield for a first down nice quarterback keeper there by johnny herrera they've had a quite a bit of success running the football with their quarterbacks tonight some big plays made on the ground not through the air by the quarterbacks yeah offense keeps its tempo as herrera in the pistol formation with black behind him herrera hands it off to black who takes it up the middle and he's taken down at about the 47th past midfield and into sidewinders territory and so far this is looking like one of those methodical drives that i said would be a key in the second half we're seeing that so far and we'll see if we'll continue and black to the left of herrera who's in shotgun it's second and seven as herrera fires to his sideline and complete for a gain of about five and that'll bring up third and nice completion there brings up third and short third and two as the ball is on the 43. this one going to be handed off to black who takes it up the gut and that's a first down for the acu firestorm two first downs in a row defense on their heels not getting pressure on herrera and a lot of good blocks yeah nice opening drive here for acu clock ticks under 13 minutes now a screen pass to the outside and a nice open field tackle joel hemphill and company there to make the tackle second and nine it was a one yard gain 12 30 remaining in the third quarter this spread offensive attack for arizona christian they lead 21-17 12-22 remaining here in the third quarter and now a false start you see the running back a bit of movement there and acu's gonna be marched back five yards one thing tonight i've seen from the side miners is a lot of zone coverage they're able to get pressure by rushing just just three or four tonight and we've seen him sit back and zone quite a bit tonight yeah here's herrera he rolls to the near side herrera fires and it's going to be incomplete over the head of the receiver jonah leone and a flag is on the field in the backfield the direction of holding we'll see what the call is here and it is holding coach kelly is going to push him back and it's going to be 10 yards added and that's going to bring up a second and 24 now for arizona christian so good field position now turns into second and long had a nice drive going and two mental mistakes by your team and just like that you're in a really tough position to pick up another first down and get into scoring position paul now on the acu's own 49-yard line it's second and 25. and another flag is thrown movement on the offensive line and another false start back to back three acu three in a row alex coach has to be furious right now just these mental mistakes so now the sideliners really can just keep everything in front of them sit back in that zone coverage that's been pretty successful tonight it's a pistol formation second and thirty three wide receivers on the near side of your screen herrera looking herrera scrambling he's pressured flags are down herrera throwing down field he has a man and he overthrows him wow overthrew him through that cross body as well a lot of arm strength by herrera there he had one on one it was a pretty well thrown football intended for jalen patterson who was covered by jarrell hemphill but it's that that flag down is declined brings up third and 30. a daunting task for this acu offense here their first possession out of the half definitely got to be a disappointing possession after they crossed the 50 had a second and short since then they've been backed up to now a third and 30 as the ball is snapped as herrera steps back he's going to dump it off to his running back his running back passes midfield and is going to be taken out at about the 47-yard line past the 50-yard line and that'll bring up fourth down for acu and they'll be forced to punt on their first drive in the second half and guess who pushed him out it was the big fella hernan ortiz who we've said so many times tonight making another play on to force a fourth down and looks like the punt team will come out to try to pin the sideminers back number two for the sideminers back to return this one as the punt is away it's a high one this one's gonna be fair caught at about the 15-yard line and that's where the sidewinders are going to take over for their first offensive possession of the second half and they're going to send out luis morales jr quarterback once again who replaced talon palmer to start the second quarter and we'll see what morales can do here in the second half now tk mack highlighted the sidewinders first half an 85 yard touchdown run in the second quarter cut the deficit to just four and here we are with 1102 remaining in the third quarter as morales in shotgun with beltran to his right morales one hand catches the snap at the handoff to beltran who makes a cut up field and he's going to be taken down in about the 22 nice run there beltran is another explosive back that the sidewinders have behind tk max who's sitting on the sideline right now it's second and three this run attack has been dominant all day for the sidewinders they haven't been able to get too much going on the offensive side of the ball in the passing game yeah on the air nothing really going but they've dominated the run game as morales with beltran to his left they give it to beltran who's stuffed immediately taken for a tackle a loss of two behind the line of scrimmage brings up third and five ran into a brick wall that's christian kirkman the linebacker that filled that gap perfectly a nice hit for a loss and it'll be third and five to go here beltran remains the running back two receivers split out to the bottom two at the top morales in shotgun quarterback making some adjustments on the line morales takes the snap third and five looking down field for his receiver and it's caught [Applause] what a reception jakey mcneal first big pass really for the sideliners today wide receiver mckeel gets wide open on a post to the outside makes a tough catch kind of bobbled it a little bit but was able to secure it for a big first down yeah third and five great job by morales to drop that one in on a dime beltran to the left of morales it's first and ten ball in the 49-yard line morales and shotgun he takes the snap morales going to keep it himself and he's going to be taken down past midfield at a 49. brings up second and seven clock ticks under nine minutes here in the third quarter sidewinders trail by four here it's a nice tackle there by khalil andrews we've yet to see tk mack i'm sorry that last tackle was made by milan martin the linebacker he's a freshman for arizona christian university three wide receivers split to the top of your screen one at the bottom morales and shotgun it second and eight ball at the 49 across midfield morales takes the snap he's pressured and down he goes down back at the 45-yard line down goes morales and that's gonna bring up a third and long for the sidewinders morales did a good job of stepping up into the pocket but just too much pressure by the defensive line of acu and he gets sacked this will be a long third down 14 to go ball on the 45 yard line here with 7 30 to go at cienega high school morales see what he can do here third and 14 ball at the 45-yard line beltran to his left as he takes the snap fires quickly screen pass over to the far side and they're going to swarmed by a group of acu players fourth down now and decision time for kelly we'll see if he punts here i like the play call there just no room for aj paxton not enough blockers ahead of him this will bring up a fourth down and looks like they're gonna send this one away with the punt team a little bit of a slower start than we had in this second half than we did the first half where we had two scores in less than 30 seconds alex and it looks like they're going to keep the offense out on the field and go for it the ball is on the sidewinder's own 49-yard line it's fourth and 10. i wonder if they're gonna just try to draw them off sides i don't see why you would go for this this early beltran to the right of morales oh and there's movement on the line by the receivers number two of the sidewinders and that's going to back them up five and force them to pump this one away and play for your position so alvarado is going to come on for the punt here the sidewinders unable to get any points out on that drive still trail 21-17 arizona christian ready to get the ball back here as o'shea jackson ready to return as alvarado gets this one away it's high and it's deep jackson's gonna let this one drop takes a nice bounce for the sideminers and continues to go yeah nice punt there by alvarado it's fielded at about the 13-yard line and that and the ball is going to be spotted at about the 24 excuse me and that's where acu will get started yeah he must have touched it with his foot because that ball continued to roll down they marked it a lot shorter than we thought and predicted it would be appeared to be a 15-yard penalty after the play on acu that's going to back them up inside their own 20-yard line to get things started here on their second possession here in the second half they lead 21-17 over the sidewinders four receivers wide two on each side motion in the backfield drew guertin rich at quarterback now for acu is this one handed off for about nine and they continue to push great push by the offensive line looks like it's gonna be a first down for acu so the jets sweep hang on it's first and ten for acu the jet sweep by jake gaines ends up for an 11-yard gain of the chains move here curtain richt quarterback at shotgun this one handed off this one taking up the gut for just about a gain of maybe one and now checking in is number 87. ty bell crusalis on the defensive side he plays defensive end brings up second and nine guertin richard quarterback two receivers to the far side two to the bottom oh and he's gonna be stuffed in the backfield fantastic job and that was cruciless and company back there making a big play yeah that was crucial's first play on defense that drive fantastic play in the back field make the tackle for a loss brings up third and long guerten rich looks gertin rich fires down the middle of the field oh and it's going to be intercepted there goes the side winders at the 10 and they're going to take into the house for a pick six and the side winders are on top tristan pralay with the pick six as he celebrates running down but i believe we had too many on the field i was just about to say alex on that substitution it didn't look like the sideminder defense was able to get off the field in time looked like we had 12 men on the field this one's gonna come back heartbreaking you are exactly right 12 men on the field is the call take away all that momentum the side windows just got absolutely that was for the lead there and instead the ball will be moved forward five yards here and then we'll repeat third down and it's a much more manageable third down as well yeah it's third and about six right now for guertin rich who's in shotgun who takes the snap he fires down far his sideline incomplete and that'll bring up fourth down and arizona christians going to be forced to punt here three minutes remaining here in the third quarter they lead 21-17 over the sidewinders three minutes to go here in the third quarter so far number two back to return so far no scores as the punt is on the way this one's high up in the air and it'll be fair called for a fair catch and it takes a ginormous bounce towards the sideminder side this one's down near the 10. yeah fantastic punt there took a big hop maybe a 10 yard hop so the sidewinders are going to take over they trail by four they got things started in this game with a kickoff return they took an early seven nothing lead but since then it's been all arizona christian tk mack for the sidewinders had an 85 yard touchdown that cut the deficit the four and i think the biggest play of the game so far has been the tk mac 51 yard run that just came up short he was better taken in a nice tackle made by one of the arizona christian players and only a field goal was given up there yeah it appears new quarterback in we got a false start by number 99 there andrew mayer is in a quarterback for the sidewinders horn and ortiz jumped the gun a little early there and they'll back up another five yards excuse me david eppinger it'll be david eppinger who takes the reigns at quarterback 511 185 pounds gets his first drive of the game and this will be their third quarterback of the game so both teams have cycled through three quarterbacks of their own it's interesting we've yet to see tk mack star running back for the sidewinders we've yet to see him in the second half here as mayork in shotgun with beltran to his left mayer keeps it himself down the near sideline mayer cuts back mayark tries to make a man this and mayor's going to be taken down at about the 18-yard line close to the first down marker he showed some real speed after the read option there kept it and really got really explosive looked good running the football makes a couple cuts makes a couple man miss it'll be second and two here second and short a nice run after the penalty yeah it appears tk mac is holding his groin on the sideline bit of a limp don't know if we'll see him back in this one yeah this is the second possession with him on the sideline he's kind of limping around walking around there four wide receivers split out wide beltran to the right of mayrick as mayor hands it off to beltran he takes it up the gut and that's going to be a first down the clock continues to run under a minute 40 here in the third quarter sidewinders trail 21-17 against arizona christian here eight andrew mayark now in at quarterback trying to help this sidewinders team take the lead here beltran two is right three wide receivers split out to the far side of your screen one at the bottom mayor takes the snap it's over his head he's going to have to get down oh and he's going to make a man miss there goes mark he's going to able to get a few yards out of it get away from the one-yard line take this up to about the seven great play by mayor didn't panic made the defenders miss almost was in his own end zone for a safety but was able to actually get a few yards back out of that missed snap there yeah that could have been disastrous for the side winders possibly a turnover there nice job by mayor to get down on that ball so now a really long second down second and 22. inside their own 10 yard line with 25 seconds to go yeah ball is spotted on the 7th at the top of your screen you'll see aj paxton will we see mayor's arm on this play it's a handoff to beltran who takes it outside for a gain of a few as the clock continues to run and that'll take us to the fourth quarter as arizona christian leads the sidewinders 21-17 incomplete and that brings up fourth down brings up fourth down and the sidewinders are going to be forced to punt here on the second play of the fourth quarter they trail 21-17 offense has not been able to get going in the second half and they're going to be forced to punt away here and set to return this is rockette the running back the freshman for acu and he'll be punting this from his own end zone here raquette can definitely set up his team in good field position with a nice return alvarado the punter oh and it's gonna be a fake and they're gonna punt this one away good punt by alvarado past midfield and it's going to take a sidewinders bounce across the 30 all the way down to about the 25 yard line another great punt by alvarado that was a great play by alvarado he faked out raquette roquette moved up thinking that it was a fake and he punted it right over the top of him and then on top of that it got another bounce so he completely flipped the field position and now acu who could have had it inside the 50 now have it at their own 35 or 25 yard line excuse me acu's gonna take over on the 25-yard line and joey ellis is going to come in at quarterback the freshman quarterback is going to take over for this acu offense they lead by four four receivers wide a running back to his right and that's where they go quarterback's gonna keep it oh and he's pumbled just a gain of about one maybe one and a half that was a great jump by the defensive lineman there crusales he made a great jump on the ball and was able to make a play for a short gain it'll be second and about eight here joey ellis his first drive in at quarterback sets number 37 in motion ellis takes the snap he hands it off to his rb up the middle takes it for about four brings up third and short and some extra curriculars after that number 87 chrysalis gets pushed no flags thrown however this will bring up a third and manageable five yards see if ellis can convert on his first drive at quarterback this one he's going to keep it himself ellis cuts inside can he get past the marker and he does so joey ellis with the first down run able to move the chains his first drive in at quarterback clock continues to take under 14 minutes here in the fourth quarter acu leads 21-17 over the sidewinders nice quarterback keep and he fell forward which was the reason why he got that first down did not fall backwards ellis takes the snap and it's a handoff that one to afici who takes it up field for about a gain of six ellis and aficio running the show on the offensive side of the ball we'll see if acu starts to slow down this offensive attack maybe waste some time here alice sets a receiver in motion ellis hands it off that's bueller who took the carry and that's another hcu first down they continue to move the chains nice run by bueller he had the big 51-yard catch a nice seam route earlier speed continues to pick up for the acu offense ellison shotgun they hand it off to aficio officially breaks one tackle officially cuts up field and a fiji is going to be taken down at about the 36. alex i love this fast-paced offense that they haven't yeah a time-out taken by the sidebinders they're having trouble getting rotations and we actually have a man hurt here but like i said this fast offense is putting pressure on the on the rotations you know they're trying to the gut and afici taken down at the 27. back to back nice runs this has definitely been the best drive we've seen so far from arizona christian and again they're gonna go with the hurry up offense and look at this crusade just gets in there in time and position and they give it to a feature who gets up the middle and a fiji is going to be taken down at about the two you thought aficio was gone big tackle made by christian or tristan tristan pralay there acu continuing to move quickly substitutions occur now gives the defensive side a chance to substitute ellis at quarterback first and goal in the one what a great drive this has been it'd be great for them to finish this one with a touchdown and he gets hammered in the backfield officially stuffed in the backfield at the five yard line that'll bring up second and goal on the five kusela's big tackle in the backfield joey ellis's first drive in a quarterback for acu in command of the offense afici they look the slant was open ellis keeps it himself trying to break to the outside he's going to be tackled no gain on the play you're absolutely right he missed jalen patterson across the middle on that slant there acu leads 21-17 it's third and five on the five-yard line can acu extend this to a two possession game here comes some rotations let's see if they can stop the ball and get 12 on the field they don't this time looks like they're gonna have 12 men on the field ellis takes a snap it's going to be thrown and it's going to be dropped in the end zone a wide open man in the end zone and it's dropped chrysalis couldn't get off the field however 12 men looks like we'll be called here by the referees and we'll get to replay third down yeah that brings up fourth down and the field goal unit is going to come out for acu and attempt to make this a seven point game so it looked like in the fourth quarter looked like we had 12 on the field but in fact it was just a miscommunication chrysalis thought there was too many on the field and kind of took himself out of the play the kick for hcu is good so with 10 26 remaining in the fourth quarter acu extends its lead over the sidewinders 24-17 you're watching juco the sidewinders 24-17 here alex gilman alongside jack pearson on the varsity sports show acu getting ready to kick off to the sidewinders who have an opportunity to tie this ball game up here in the fourth i know it was only three points but that was probably the best looking drive that acu has had all night they ran a hurry up offense drew a couple penalty flags for 12 months on the field were able to run the ball very successfully pick up a lot of first downs it didn't end in a touchdown but points were on the board and they now lead it by seven their lead is definitely more safe than it was before yeah this one fielded by hemphill who returned one to start the game in the first quarter and hempfield is going to be hit hard down at about the 19-yard line and that's where the sidewinders will begin this possession and they're gonna send it appears to be talon palmer talon palmer is going to come back out at quarterback he started the game for the sidewinders and he's back out for this drive as they trail by seven trying to tie this game up here in the fourth quarter 10 19 remains it's first and ten on the 19 yard line three retrievers split to the bottom of your screen one to the top beltran to the left of palmer as palmer takes the snap palmer looks he steps up in the pocket takes it himself and palmer is going to be taken down maybe a loss of one on the play number 93 evan pauline made a great pursuit on the quarterback there yeah not much time for palmer in the pocket there no absolutely no he had to step up and make made the best out of it definitely alex definitely could have been sacked there brings up second and 11. ball on the 18-yard line now interesting decision by coach kelly he's put in now three quarterbacks palmer started the game he returns now the second possession in the fourth quarter what can the sidewinders do here beltran to the right of palmer as palmer takes the snap he looks he's scrambling he fires to the sideline and it's going to be dropped in and out of the hands of the receiver aj couldn't come up with the catch on the near on the far sideline hit him right in the chest just hit him in a bad spot yeah you know it hit him right in the chest and that was a problem bobbled off of him couldn't corral the catch in this will bring up a long third down and you know down 7 9 12 to go a little sense of urgency has to be in the minds of the sideliners right now yeah palmer's going to need to throw this football third and 11. balls on the 18-yard line palmer and shotgun he takes the snap palmer's going to look far side to the near sideline it's going to be incomplete in front of his receiver brings up fourth and long and the sidewinders are going to be forced to punt with 907 remaining here in the fourth quarter that looked like a little miscommunication looks like paxton ran a different route than what palmer expected him to and i'll tell you what alex the reason that i believe this acu defense has had so much success as they is that they put the the pressure in the quarterback's hands and right now you know the passing game has not been the best the best for uh the sidewinders right now and in the first half it seemed for the sidewinders the goal was going to be to run the football led by those three interior linemen that played in the all-star game led by tk mack they were able to do that in the first half but in that in this second half that run game has totally stalled as the snap goes over alvarado's head will it go out of the end zone alvarado picks it up and he's going to be taken down and it's going to be a safety [Applause] absolute chaos for the side winders and they now trail by nine and acu's gonna get the ball back with a nine point lead here in the fourth quarter snap just goes a little bit above the head and the rest is history not much the punter can do there he's like a deer and a headlight back there in the end zone and this one ends up with a safety and you wondered about these snaps there have been a few questionable snaps all night and that one the side winders winders just not able to get lucky enough we've definitely seen some snaps go a little bit errant on the punter so now all of a sudden it's an 11. i'm sorry a nine point lead 901 to go ac is going to get the football back here yeah daunting task now for the sidewinders it's definitely gonna down behind the line of scrimmage for a loss clock continues to take under 220 now brings up fourth down not too many plays left in tonight's ball game no the sideliners definitely look defeated just the body language of this team they definitely have to be disappointed and you know just some of those mental areas that i think are easy fixes i think this is a very very solid football team they lost their best player in the second half you know this is a close game in the first half uh alex and you know since then a lot it was just a big momentum shift and you know but i do believe that this team can be very successful this season yeah i loved what i saw from the run game in the first half obviously their star running back going down with an injury it appeared in the first half who knows how this game would have turned out had max in the ball game the clock continues to take under two minutes alvarado gets this pun away it's not going to be fielded takes a friendly hop and this one's going to be picked up at about the 22 yard line 1 19 to go here clock continues to take maybe one or two plays left in tonight's ball game acu is going to get their first win of the season they lead
